| 6th September 2009 Jeff | Interesting title - From: Stiletto culture "These incredible shoes" is right. I found your article in a search for an online vendor of Russian (or East European) stiletto shoes and boots, which are unlike anything being made in the West. I read your entire article, hoping you would say more about them beyond your first half paragraph. Interesting glimpse into post-Soviet life, and great photos as others have written, but not quite to the point with respect to my current topic of interest, as you may have by now gathered. While I have managed to find some photos (and even a video clip) of said beauties in their incredible stilettos, a source of the stilettos themselves still eludes me. |
| 25th August 2009 Graciela | amazing - From: A hardening of the heart in the land of the economic miracle. I havenīt been to India yet. I donīt have time to read the whole blog but I have had a look at the pictures which are fabulous, great work. It seems India is full of colour and surprises. A friend of mine said the South is much spectacular that the north. I donīt know yet. |

| 29th May 2009 Graciela | falls - From: The unbearable tightness of Lycra Great pics. The Iguazú Falls pictures belong to the Argentine side of the falls. They are in the limit between both countries. In my opinion, the best infrastructure to see the falls is in the Argentine side. Love, Graciela. |
| 14th May 2009 Gune | - From: A gentle introduction to the madness of beauty. I'm Sri Lankan, and love travelling both at home at outside - wondered through about 20 countries. To enjoy travel tales about your own country is rare as often you feel that the writter is not accurate or too arrogent/opinionated. Especially for a country as complex as ours. Your travel page i have tagged as a 'favourite' in my computer and read it off and on when needing a bit of a 'pick - me -up' . |
| 17th April 2009 Breon | im a monkey - From: And the lonely sailors laid with seals, believing them to be mermaids. I just want to give you a recent comment so you know your page is stilled graced upon. Really really wonderful. My son used your page for his lit. Bio paper, and he loves your postings. :) ya rock. |

| 24th November 2008 Carly | - From: "He talks of San Francisco, he's from Hunter's Bar" CONGRATULATIONS! I wish you all the happiness in the world. I just read the blog...I think it was 'lovelyplanet'. I followed you as you travelled around the world a couple of years ago. Your pictures were spectacular. |
| 21st October 2008 erin | Wonderful Photographs - From: "He talks of San Francisco, he's from Hunter's Bar" Your photographs are beautiful! I am in New Delhi right now. Trying to take pictures in such a hazy/smoggy environment is challenging. Do you have any tips on how to take better pictures despite the hazy? |
| 2nd September 2008 Ricardo | Very nice... - From: Who'd be a duck in Peking Hello, I'm Ricardo from Portugal. I heard about you guys before, but I never came to visit your site, I have to say that I'm very impressed with the quality of your fotos... you'll never know, some day we may cross paths, because I'm a traveller my self... wish you guys all the best, and carry on the good work. Stay lucky. |
| 8th July 2008 Prad | superb piece - From: Agra-phobia you have captured India so beautifully, both in words and through your lenses. I have been to almost all the places mentioned in your blog, and I must say that you present a picture that makes me feel like visiting the places all over again. thanks for such a beautiful entry. |
| 20th June 2008 ajay sharma | The next step.... - From: Agra-phobia Hey! your work is inspiring to say the least.....I am making a 60 minutes film on 'female foeticide' and its story travels to and fro between the sleepy rustic ambience of a village in Rajasthan to a space mission by NASA where Kalpana Chawla was killed. Can't tell you more....at this stage. I think if you can take out 40 days in Sept-Oct 2008...then I offer you to work on the 'coffee table book' and stills of our movie. I am doing this project with an Australian Lady and we want to participate in the Cannes Festival in 2009..besides others. We are not on a big budget...but we have a big heart...and an open mind! cheers!! ajay sharma 91-11-9971722022 |

| 15th April 2008 peter fernando | sri lanka -by a mixed tamil/singhalese - From: A gentle introduction to the madness of beauty. fantastic write up on sri lanka,a country steeped in history and blessed with beauty.Sadly, most people in sri lanka have somehow forgotten their history.I agree with the comment about the conflict.By describing myself as a mixed tamil/singhalese I venture into a whole new arena. In sri lanka in common with many other countries there is no concept of mixed race as between difference ethinicities.May be the solution to sri lanka's conflict is to welcome more races -when i lived there we had english neigbours on one side and muslim Indian's on the other. Both our neighbours migrated to USA!! |
| 9th April 2008 two4deroad | Pictures that tell a story - From: The unbearable tightness of Lycra Hi, I like how your pictures tell a story all by them selves. Have you been able to get hooked on any ' telenovela's' while you where there. I hear they are great! Enjoy the rest of your trip |

| 28th February 2008 Marlisa in the Keys | So, what happened with the penguin? - From: "He talks of San Francisco, he's from Hunter's Bar" Minu and I are soulmates; I have not much to add to her comment. My lust for travel will remain unsatisfied except for suggestive sites like these, at least for the time being, but knowing that you have not only been to these places but have done such a marvelous job of documenting it salves my envy somewhat. Thanks for sharing! |
| 28th February 2008 Me in the Monsoons | You have movement in your words - From: "He talks of San Francisco, he's from Hunter's Bar" Although I have been blogging for some time now, I never really used travelblog to read other people's tales; I'm glad I stumbled across you two in my first escapade through the entire website! Great writing - I love your style and your depth. It makes me feel like I am right there with you... |

| 11th January 2008 Doug and Bec | My piece of heaven - From: Apple Museum? No, we spent too long at the Jam Factory As a Tasmanian native now living about as far away as possible, your blog, and photos in particular, pay true homage to my beautiful state. Thank you for doing it justice. All your blogs are fabulous but it's your pictures are what really make it - are you selling them?! |
| 10th December 2007 barrygahan | Just a thought... - From: The Hand of God Should you really be writing about (and hence encouraging others) crossing no-entry signs and wandering off path in the National Park. I don't want this to sound like I'm on my high-horse here, but from what we've seen in Argentina, many of the paths and parks have been ruined by irresponsible trekkers who ignore these signs. Other than that, I think your blog is excellent - great descriptions and fantastic photos. |

| 6th November 2007 Isa and Phil | - From: "He talks of San Francisco, he's from Hunter's Bar" I read your blogs with great pleasure and was every time amazed by your wonderful pictures. I also dreamed i met you in cuzco and we drunk some beers all together, even if i never traveled there! Real travel-inspirator-icon! (don't know if this word exists, my english is mostly spoken...) ;) Have a nice day! Hope your taking your bag soon on your shoulder again, so we can read about your trip again! |
| 30th October 2007 Hem | Nice blog - From: Agra-phobia Hi, I just ran into your blog after clicking on the Taj Mahal's photo on the main page. I am from India (currently in US) and have lived in the state of Uttar Pradesh (where Agra is) and Delhi for nealy 20 yrs and had never visited the Taj Mahal!! Now I am in the US and visiting places here! Your blog about your north Indian experiences are truly interesting. 15-20 yrs ago, there were not many tourists coming to India but now it is steadily becoming a popular tourist destination among the adventurous. Stories of people pestering you for money is quintessential lower middle class India where people are not ashamed of trying to make a quick buck out of the hapless tourist. I wonder what you guys (from US, UK) think of such experiences. Are they always annoying or they add something to the experience that is India? Anyway, the blog transported me to Agra and the Taj for some moments! |

| 11th July 2007 Yathi | - From: "The pool is open" WOW!!! Im inspired. Gotta sign up for scuba instruction classes this summer. Great pics guys! |
| 27th June 2007 Tessa | Food for Thought - From: The burning ring of fire I enjoyed your interesting and thought-provoking journal entry and pictures. We've just come back to Australia after a trip that took in Huanglong and Juizhaigo, and two years ago visited Xian and Xiahe. This was my sixth trip to China and it's always fascinating, there is very little I find dull (apart from the obligatory shopping stops at South Sea Pearl or other rip-off showrooms). From the last comment you will realize that our trips were package tours. They were reasonably priced and as nearly everything was prepaid we didn't have the kind of mark-up and extortion troubles you described (or at least we didn't know about them). I agree that this kind of thing is obviously a problem in China and I'm sorry if our type of travel may be making things worse. But I'm not sure what we can do. Perhaps if enough people complain (but to who?) and refuse to give in to extortion, then things may improve, but don't hold your breath. |
| 3rd June 2007 Sparkie | - From: Elephants stole my underpants ... Whenever I click on a photo I like it turns out to be yours so I thought I would just drop you a line to say that your photos are stunning! good work. Sam |
| 11th May 2007 Beckie | Wow! - From: The biggest bang since the big one Can I just say your photos are absolutely out of this world!!! I bet you get messages like this all the time but i just had to give you another one!!!!!!! x |
| 5th May 2007 Minu | - From: "He talks of San Francisco, he's from Hunter's Bar" A friend suggested I go through your blog. Just did. I am unimaginably envious of the two of you, this moment. Your photographs are outstanding (are these skills trasferrable or infectious? Can I have some please???) and you are absolutely lucky to have been to the palces you've been to (which is just about everywhere!). I'm sure you have a lot to do with making these travels happen, but I say 'lucky' because I feel like a million bucks when I get the opportunity to be somewhere truly breathtaking or experience something out of this world, within this world. I bet you'll agree. You just inspired me to stay put with my 'vagabond plan'. Thank you. |

| 7th April 2007 grace | wow..great insight - From: Agra-phobia Once again, your blog has managed to keep me up way past my bedtime... this one was by far one of my favs. Your insight, comprehension and knowledge of India was very inspiring to read (and it's quite ironic b/c I had a long talk with a Nepali-Indian today about India's economic situation and imbalance). I'm definitely checking out your book recommendations. Reading this blog interests me to learn and seek more about this nation of contradictions. I sometimes feel like I want to just escape from here, while other times I want to embrace the goodness it has to offers. I think that this entry has created a better understanding of the things that causes me so much frustration and confusion about this country. Thanks for taking the time to share your inspiring outlook and honesty. You have such a gift... in both the visual and logical way of seeing things, and transcending that for others to understand. |
| 22nd March 2007 Leon | Great Photos - From: These toilets are for customer use only Awesome photos man - one thing but with regards to going into the wild underprepared - surely that boils down to personal responsibility! |
| 22nd March 2007 Jessica | Incredible Photos! - From: These toilets are for customer use only Your photos are amazing! Reallly beautiful. My own photography skills are so pitiful that I won't have much to show when I finish my RTW trip on Tuesday. I couldn't resist giving you a kudos for yours, however. Well, time to hit the couch of my friend here in Normandy, France. Have an amazing trip! |
| 12th March 2007 Anon | Re: - From: "The boys watch the girls while the girls watch the boys who watch the girls go by." You're mistaken. Those Western women that do it, some of them are most likely doing it to get drug money. |
| 8th March 2007 ailee | - From: These toilets are for customer use only omg....these photos are f*cking amazing!! they say photos neva do justice, but i'm prepared to overrule the statement!! |
| 28th February 2007 JC | Nice thought ! - From: "The boys watch the girls while the girls watch the boys who watch the girls go by." A well written blog... it is objective & thought-provoking. Moral decays in Western and Asian society is unspeakable. The difference is choice. Western women chose to do it FREELY for FUN while asian prostitutes are doing it to SURVIVE. |
| 19th February 2007 Rupankar | Simply beautiful - From: Agra-phobia Most of your photos are simply beautiful. I wanted to have a look on the shots pf Rajasthan, but ended up finshing the entire lot. Great photography! |
| 18th February 2007 Corax | Queer Bird? - From: On the road with Maximum Velocidad Your "Queer bird" is called a Caracara - probably a Crested Caracara. It's a bird of prey, similar to a hawk or eagle, that prefers to stick close to the ground. Also a very pretty bird, and a good picture too! |
| 9th February 2007 Jetrosexual | Happy Holi - From: The multicoloured slop swap These pictures sure do put a smile on my face! |
| 2nd February 2007 Cumberland Sausage | Crazeee - From: Possessed by the spirit of Chinggis Khan Dear anonymous, I agree - those people who cannot visit your beautiful country are indeed unlucky. The caption for the horses refers to an Osmond's song (it's quite hard to think up captions for photos). I would not wish to imply your horses are crazy - although some of their owners clearly are :-) |
| 2nd February 2007 anonymous | - From: Possessed by the spirit of Chinggis Khan hi i'm mongolian. Why are you expressing yout thankses to those people who took the pictures? Mongolia is a wonderful country. If foreigners cannot come to my beautiful country, and cannot see the wonders, they are unlucky!!!!! Why did one photographer give a statement-Crazy horses to our horses????? He is a crazy man himself!!!!! |
| 29th January 2007 Natalie | Amazing! - From: These toilets are for customer use only Sooo jealous! Thanks for posting your travel blog :) |
| 23rd January 2007 Hmmm... | Good work. - From: Pokerface shows his hand Right on!! Great pics. Somehow it looked like a lot like Steve Davey's "Unforgettable places to see before you die". Or maybe great people just think alike!!! :) |
| 3rd January 2007 Cumberland Sausage | To A Tamil - From: A gentle introduction to the madness of beauty. I'm afraid that whilst recognising both, or more accurately all, sides in the conflict are regularly committing atrocities, and having a lot of sympathy for the plight of the Tamil people (as opposed to the Tigers themselves) I don't agree with the sentiment expressed. I don't believe starving the Sinhalese will help stop the war anymore than attacking the Tigers (take a look at the effects that the last decades sustained and brutal 'UN' sanctions had on the government of Iraq). However in the interests of fairness I've accepted the comment. |
| 3rd January 2007 a tamil | don't visit sri lanka - From: A gentle introduction to the madness of beauty. don't go to sri lanka until the sinhlese stop the genocidal war to exterminate the tamils... you're supporting the war with your foreign currency |
| 16th December 2006 Lisa | Canon S1 IS and underwater housing - From: "I believe in equality for everyone, except reporters and photographers" - Gandhi Thanks for your comments on the above. We purchased a Canon S1IS a year or two ago with the underwater housing. We've always put up with "blue" underwater photos, preferring to just "capture the moment" rather than perfect our photography. On our last dive in Cancun, an underwater photographer that was along lent us his filter and our photos looked so much better. So I bought a UR PRO filter and an adaptor to use on our camera. Just like you stated...together, they don't fit into our housing. We even took the front lens off of our housing and the surrounding gasket and it still didn't work. Just wanted to thank you for confirming what we just found out. |
| 14th December 2006 Cumberland Sausage | Photo Usage - From: Agra-phobia Hi Rajat, thanks for your comments - India is truly enchanting ... although engaging may perhaps be more accurate. Send us an email through travelblog re photo usage. Cheers Rich and Kim |
| 12th December 2006 Rajat | Enchanting India - From: Agra-phobia Hey, I recently went through the blog and found it enchanting. The growing curiosity about our country with so many people coming and writing their experience shows that somehow India still manages to touch people's heart in many ways. I am planning a travel company soon and I seek your permission to use one or two of your lovely photogrphs (with due permission) in my catalogue. Rajat |
| 22nd November 2006 Wilma | - From: Pokerface shows his hand I especially like the one of the quiver tree - the angle! |
| 16th November 2006 Stephen Paul | wonderful! - From: These toilets are for customer use only Only 4 comments? Obviously, travelbloggers dont like to comment! Really great stuff her, words and images that both enchant the soul and hypnotize the heart. My favorites are #4, #7, #23, #54, #57, #73. It should be published! |
| 9th November 2006 Mike Golby | The Oakburn, the Maori, the Boss 400, etc. - From: The dream is nearly over I stumbled across your blog while looking for a Llandudno route to the Boss 400. We've walked to the promontory from where you took your photograph, but it was unsatisfactorily distant from the barge. Interestingly, Maori Bay takes its name from a New Zealand wreck that foundered there, and the Blackburn landed pretty much on top of her. The Boss 400, an American barge, found its way there a century later and, you'll have noticed from your vantage point, a trawler (or something similar), tossed up on the rocks a stone's throw from all three. Not being in the water, it's damnably difficult to find out the brokenbacked trawler's name. But there you go. A wreck under -- or on -- every rock. I'm pleased you enjoyed your visit -- come back soon. Cape Town's a beautiful place. And, yeah, we'll probably stroll around from Hout Bay. There's something about that wreck... |
| 8th November 2006 anonymous | - From: Stiletto culture Wonderful photos, you sharply caught the city very well. Thank you for rejuvinating my memory again. |
| 6th November 2006 John and Sylvia | Glad you're home but will miss your stories - From: "He talks of San Francisco, he's from Hunter's Bar" Richard (& Kim), I have been inspired by your blog. Wish such a thing had existed when I travelled from UK to Australia overland in the late '60s - all I have is some old postcards and letters. Hope you can settle down again :). My wife and I travelled through the Middle East five years ago (Local bus, taxis, etc.) and are still having trouble adjusting to being home. Recently bought a camper-trailer and have begun to explore Australia. Not as exotic as Asia and the Middle East but still lots of fun and discovery. It's amazing what we don't know about our own backyard! Found the same when we were staying in the UK - we learned more about the place than my family who live there. |
| 5th November 2006 Chris | Thanks for the inspiration. i just did it. Amazing - From: Beauty and the Beasts i just finished gorilla trekking in both Uganda and Rwanda. it was amazing. Check out my blog entry and videos at: http://keatingcwk.spaces.live.com/blog/cns!4951C608E64F098B!546.entry |
| 5th November 2006 lovelyplanet | We love your lists. - From: "He talks of San Francisco, he's from Hunter's Bar" Nice to hear that Mongolia is up in front. Our company hasn't spoilt it all, then :-) Of course, we would design a quite different list of your best pics. We agree with "storm" and "Deadvlei", but then, I just love your Indian temples - of which, ironically, I have still not seen a single one on the travel photo page. And Nico is still very jealous because of the blue sky and the picturesque white clouds you had the second time at Kharkorin. Cheers, Brigitte and Nico |
| 3rd November 2006 Dan | Wow - From: "He talks of San Francisco, he's from Hunter's Bar" Sad it's over, but I'm glad to see Tasmania made it onto your list a couple of times, I'm lucky to live here. I hope someone who can equal the quality of your photography and writing skilling will come along very soon because we've just come to the end of another outstanding blog. |
| 30th October 2006 Harriet | Advice Please - From: The most expensive swamp on Earth. You've travelled all over the world...what place would you say was the highlight of your travels. Can you name 5 must-see places? I really appreciate your help. I've never been to Africa, and I feel a little intimidated! But I'm really interested in visiting. Thanks! |

Especially like the guy in the glasses and the poor old cow!!! thanks for making me smile - happy safe travelling |
| 16th October 2006 Cumberland Sausage | Thanks Lee - From: The dream is nearly over For the information - it's most appreciated. Clearly it's not always easy to get the correct facts from google. |
| 15th October 2006 Lee | Profile of Wreck stumbled upon - From: The dream is nearly over Stumbled across your blog. Just to set the record straight; the wreck you stumbled across was not called 'The Oakburn'. It in fact was the 'Boss 400' which ran a ground in a Cape winter storm in 1995. The Boss 400 was the biggest floating crane in Africa when the towing lines broke and hit the rocks in a storm. Being a barge and having no main engines of its own it had to be towed to wherever it was working in the world. It had been used in the industry to pick up huge pipes. The tug that had the towing operation was underpowered and not up to the job. They found themselves unable to cope with the conditions and radioed through to Cape Town harbor to ask for assistance. Although two tugs were dispatched they were unable to get any lines onto the boss 400 due to the extremely rough seas. It is said a while later the original line snapped and the Boss 400 found itself blowing onto the rocks in Maori Bay were she has been lying ever since. All 14 crew that had been aboard the Boss 400 were airlifted to safety. At the time of the stranding, the Boss 400 was one of the most powerful crane barges in the world capable of lifting 1200 tons and valued at over 70 million US$. Due to the immense value of the vessel, a salvage team was dispatched but the back of the vessel was too badly broken and the salvage attempt had to abandoned. |

Don`t worry I know its the photographer that makes all the diffference! Did you use a neutral density to get the water softness or was that just from stopping all the way down? Check out some underwater cenote shots at sniffandsnore... I look forward to your next story.... |

| 15th August 2006 Matvey | Nice - From: Oah Oh, Babushka Babushka Babushka Oah Oh. Really cool blog! Although perhaps you got onto the wrong side of Russia. Being Russian, I can tell you Moscow is alot beter than you think. It is definitely a very definite contrast to the UK, but I assure you there is beauty within. Moscow isnt much of a tourist's place, but its growing. Come back in 20 years or so and there will be more. In the mean time, visit St Petersburg's "Petergof" park or something :) |

| 4th August 2006 Ali | >Sat in the hot tropical air of a humid Malaysian wet season - From: My name is Mr Sausage. I'm an Emergency First Responder. MAY I HELP YOU? Like this very much ;) - I was on the small trendy island (Perhentian Kecil) at the same time - it was officially the dry season... something was up this year though - the dry season and the wet season seemed to blend... the only difference is the state of the ocean, the sea during the monsoon (Oct-Mar) is regularly impassable, massive waves and dangerous swell. | 20th June 2006 Matt | Your eye(s) - From: Possessed by the spirit of Chinggis Khan Hi Kim/Richard - As an amateur photographer who loves to travel I must compliment you on your eye(s) for great images. Your compositions and the technical quality are great! Are these digital or scanned slides? On the food count - did you find any options other than mutton? Well done! |
| 9th June 2006 Fez McCruddock | only slightly jealous - From: Agra-phobia Hello Baccy (and Kim). I have only just become aware of the blog. As everybody else says the pictures are great. I haven't read all of the commentary, yet. See you whenever in Yorkshire, which I try not to leave. |

| 23rd May 2006 Jeanbean | excellent - From: Stiletto culture Thanks for a wonderful view into a world that has always been mysterious to me. Great photos! Inciteful writing; just enough travel facts mixed with your impressions to be very compelling. That's one important aspect of travel that many blogs miss. One only needs to read so much of how drunk someone got... thanks for the clinic on how it's done right! |
| 19th May 2006 Cumberland Sausage | Oops - From: These toilets are for customer use only Thanks anonymous. I'll change the title in a bit. I guess the Nepal blog is going to be even more difficult to get right when I put that up. |
| 18th May 2006 anonymous | - From: These toilets are for customer use only your pic of Mt Aspiring is actually of Black Peak - just to let you know - still a beautiful pic though |
| 17th May 2006 Alice | Tallin KGB headquarters - From: Little Red Riding Hood and the big bad Wolf Did you note that the KGB headquarters is now the Russian Embassy? I had a delightful visit in January, 2003, in a vain attempt to get my son a visa to come visit me in St. Petersberg, where I was working for a year. It's a better Museum of Occupation than the official one, as it is equiped with actual Soviet bureaucrats. Their main task is to torment Estonians trying to get into or out of Russia, but they will gladly display their formidable talents to other capitalists. Reason for denying visa: my son had already been to St. Petersberg, and there really isn't that much to see there. A must-see attraction, so don't delay--those Soviets aren't getting any younger. P.S. Tallin cold in the summer? Perhaps, but you miss the icicle-breaking ceremonies which are very cool in January. |
| 10th May 2006 Stephen Paul | please, thank you - From: On the road with Maximum Velocidad Your pictures make me sick! they are so good, they make me feel foolish for even attempting to capture the things I see. Every post is stunning, you must sxpend a lot of time on a laptop organizing and choosing the pics to post. Whatever method to your madness, nice work. One more thing- Dont ever go back to Chile. That way when I move there my pictures wont look so amateur-ish!! :) KEEP TRAVELLING AND KEEP POSTING!!! |
| 4th May 2006 kcipakcipuk | I love your photos - From: Vanishing Charlie Street I had muesli and yoghurt at aussie lady's cafe. (my staple boarding school food I havent had for years) And tiger leaping gorge took a while to grow into. But it all worth it. |

| 29th April 2006 Erik 2006 | Reliving a previous trip through your stories and photos - From: Agra-phobia Hi. I travelled through Northern India three years ago. It is great to relive my experiences through your great photography and stories. At the moment I'm back in India, travelling through the South. It was fun to see that you had the same boatman for your trip to the Keralan backwaters as we had! Thank you, and keep up the good work! Erik |
| 25th April 2006 Cumberland Sausage | Girls?? - From: The multicoloured slop swap I guess I was trying to be polite ... see "City Of Djinns" by William Dalrymple for a sensitive account of the lives of some of India's estimated 750,000 eunuchs. |
| 25th April 2006 Cumberland Sausage | Where are the cricket pics ??? - From: A hardening of the heart in the land of the economic miracle. They wouldn't let us bring cameras into the ground, for fear we would angrily toss them at Rahul Dravid in an attempt to get the run rate moving (great batsman, India would have been lost in the tests without him). Apparently when Pakistan visits they have to watch for this sort of thing. |
| 24th April 2006 Paul Hague | Oi, Nutter ..... yes you! - From: The multicoloured slop swap I'm gobsmacked that you went right into the heart of a favella in Rio to get a few photos. What's wrong with the usual tourist snaps of Sugarloaf mountain and the Copacabana? I always thought you were bonkers. Now I know for sure. Still, it seems you got out alive and with an amazing set of photos to boot. Did Kim accompany you? By the way, do you want your mountain bike back as we're off to Sarawak in September. |
| 18th April 2006 technoheckno | Sri Lanka - From: A gentle introduction to the madness of beauty. Great Photos. I visited 2 weeks prior to the Tsunami and went back last December. It's important that people visit - otherwise the poor just get poorer. The Sri Lankans are some of the friendliest, kindest people I've ever met. http://www.wylamontyne.co.uk/pics/srilankapics2004/ |
| 13th April 2006 Emily | - From: The most expensive swamp on Earth. the photos are fantastic - love the peacock especially. Will keep an eye out for your photos in future! |

| 6th April 2006 Franco | - From: The burning ring of fire Agree with other commentor. Great writing and photos. |
| 3rd April 2006 Mark | Highest "Navigable" Lake - From: I, Tourist I think they just want to claim Lake Titicaca as the highest something in the world. I know Lake Tilicho in the Annapurna region of Nepal is higher (between 5,000m and 5,200m depending on the map you look at), so I guess the fact that Lake Titicaca is used and navigated constantly by people as part of their daily lives gives it the title of highest "Navigable" Lake. Who knows though!!! |
| 30th March 2006 Adrian | See you in Thailand - From: A hardening of the heart in the land of the economic miracle. WHERE ARE THE CRICKET PICS?????? From a disappointed fan |
| 30th March 2006 KHolmes | These girls really gave it their all ...Girls?? - From: The multicoloured slop swap Is that a tongue in cheek comment... |

| 29th March 2006 ALB | Cumberland Sausage - From: A hardening of the heart in the land of the economic miracle. Hey Cumberland Sausage, yeah your photos are absolutely stunning, truly straight out of National Geographic (any offers yet?!), but have you ever seen sausage like on Weez n Wife's lateast blog?! Check it out. Now that's some serious sausage! Safe travels. |
| 28th March 2006 Mena | - From: Where have all the people gone? I too am fascinated by your travel log and the photos are just unbelievable, love it all!!!!! |
| 27th March 2006 ConMel | - From: A hardening of the heart in the land of the economic miracle. Great pictures as usual - sorry I couldn't read the whole thing, but really enjoying your travels! |
| 27th March 2006 susan | thankies - From: Apple Museum? No, we spent too long at the Jam Factory thankyou thankyou for displaying these beautiful photos of tas, they have me itching to get back there (next december, so far away..). your photography is inspirational. |
| 26th March 2006 Gerry Aitken | - From: A hardening of the heart in the land of the economic miracle. Loved the photos. I can relate to all your comments about India, beautifully observed. I wondered whether my photos were as good as yours (I think I need to read that Simon Callow book!), but one things for sure I can't match the length of your prose! See http://www.travelblog.org/Asia/India/Uttar-Pradesh/Varanasi/blog-1948.html "A great photograph is one that fully expresses what one feels, in the deepest sense, about what is being photographed, and is, thereby, a true manifestation of what one feels about life in its entirety" Ansel Adams |

| 24th March 2006 Cumberland Sausage | To Hymie - From: Il Furioso and the Twins of Doom Hi Hymie, Thanks for your kind and thorough comments. You might not believe me but I do try to keep politics out of these blogs but I'm afraid it is an aspect of life and travel I am very interested in. At least half the books I read are of a political or historical nature. You are correct in that my political comments apply to more to Australia as a whole, not Melbourne in particular, which appears to me to have a fairly broad and tolerant outlook. However it may be that if we ever met and discussed politics you would find my views quite intolerable (many do), but then in making this presumption perhaps I am being genuinelly insulting. BTW, I'm also trying not to be deliberately insulting to the people of the places we visit, but I also am holding a lot back at times. Wishing you great travels and long may the Ashes live in England. |
| 23rd March 2006 Hymie | Cult following - From: Il Furioso and the Twins of Doom I've only been a travel blog user for a bit over a month now, and noticed you had a cult following, so when I saw that you had blogged Melbourne I couldn't put off reading your blogs any longer. My wife and I are on a honeymoon/working holiday for the year and we hail from the Yarra Valley. Your photos are fantastic, and the amount of time you devote to your subject is also terrific. Must admit our blog is only really for us and friends and family at home, so I don't always provide a totally honest portrayal of our thoughts. We don't want to offend anyone from all of the continents/countries we have visited and made friends with. So I loved your commentary, but was a bit taken aback by your political analysis. I guess that is the Western political climate at the moment (we are currently in London where Mr. Blair has seen a rapid decline in popularity and is being bashed from pillar to post by the media). Just hope that Melbourne isn't associated with the negative political ideas that are tied to Western government at the moment by the many people who read your blog (Canberra can have the association if you want). I really loved your blog though and along with watching the Commonwealth Games it helps us keep strong ties with home. Wish we could travel as much of the world as you have, but we'll settle for going close. Look forward to reading the rest of your blogs, and if you get a chance check our blog and let us know of places we must visit. Cheers Hymie. |
| 22nd March 2006 Scuba Bruce | Diving - From: A gentle introduction to the madness of beauty. Love the diving photos as well as all your others....made me want to visit the Conch wreck Thanks |
| 19th March 2006 Ree | Elephant , Landscape, and Sea Life Pictures - From: A gentle introduction to the madness of beauty. Wow!!! I did not mind staying up late to view your captivating photos and journal entry. Thanks so much for sharing these!!! Ree |
| 5th March 2006 Natalie | Great! - From: A gentle introduction to the madness of beauty. We just came back from Sri Lanka and I think your site is great. I join you in encouraging people to visit Sri Lanka! We have travelled many places, particularly in southeast Asia, and this was just my favourite trip, ever. The people and the country are wonerful. |
| 1st March 2006 WJ | - From: A gentle introduction to the madness of beauty. Very balanced report & great pictures. NEWS the world knows of many parts of the world are sham. I think more and more people are coming to believe this, but sadly there are still many more who don't - or perhaps more sadly, won't. |
| 25th February 2006 margaret carty | Sri Lanka - From: A gentle introduction to the madness of beauty. Absolutely awesome, keep your pictures and blogs coming. I just love hearing from you guys. |
| 25th February 2006 Kevin | Wow! That's beautiful! - From: Who'd be a duck in Peking |
| 25th February 2006 Cumberland Sausage | To SA - From: The dream is nearly over When I read your comment I thought you probably have a point. However having read the blog again I stand by every word - I think it is an accurate assessment of my experience of tasting South African wines. Blogs are about opinions ... and blogs about tasting wine doubly so. Somehow I feel the South African wine industry will survive my comments, and the many people the world over who enjoy South African wines (and if you read carefully you will see I also am one) will continue to enjoy them. Many thanks for reading the blog, and I can only add that my two visits to your country have been wonderful and I hope to have many chances to go there again. |
| 24th February 2006 SA | Why insult our wines? - From: The dream is nearly over I'm glad you enjoyed South Africa even though our wines cant compare to any other in the world? I've been living in the Middle East and everywhere I go people commented on how much they enjoy South African wines. So, if you dont like it why make it a known fact? At least South AFricans enjoy it....and we know how to spell place names we visit. |
| 24th February 2006 Olav from Morway | Astonishing pictures !! - From: A gentle introduction to the madness of beauty. Your pictures are just great !! I have looked at all your pictures, and they are of world class. Waiting for the next pictures with excitement. |

| 19th February 2006 Steve Lou | Sri Lanka - From: The biggest bang since the big one Hi...like many on this site I follow your blogs with interest...stunning photos. However, we are doubly fortunate, as by chance you seemed to have 'followed' us around South America, and so it's great to see such great pictures of where we have also been. However, I can't believe many people go from South America to Sri Lanka...but we did (via london and India), so I'm delighted to be looking forward to some excellent shots from what is a beautiful and friendly Island. Don't miss Yala for the Leopards (I'm sure you'll get a better shot than our fuzzy long distance efforts), and if you get a sunrise at adams peak we'll all be in for a photo treat !! Cheers. Steve and Lou |
| 10th February 2006 Cumberland Sausage | To the Bond Family - From: The biggest bang since the big one Great to hear from you again. Alas the same fate awaits us in a few months. Hope you will be off on more adventures soon. Cheers. |

| 10th February 2006 Holden | Best pictures yet!! - From: The biggest bang since the big one Those must be the best pictures rendered of the Fragrant Harbour that i've seen! | 8th February 2006 Bond Family | Brings Back Great Memories - From: The biggest bang since the big one We try to catch up and check out your wonderful blogs often. Hard to believe it's been 6 months since we ended our world trip! We're back in Florida and to our boring daily routines...isn't it sad! Your Hong Kong blog brought back fond memories of our visit last May and the 3 years we lived there. Chinese New Year in Hong Kong is the BEST! Keep up the great blogs so we can keep living through you! |

Now I can't wait to troop to Mongolia, visit its countryside, breathe in its history and temporarily retreat from from the bustle of city life. |
| 24th January 2006 Bozoe | BALI FOOD - From: At sea in the deep blue ocean Wrong!! Sure there are many tourists around the KUTA AREA, but have you ever thought of venturing out in remote villages? If you want to eat their food, which I eat three times a day while living there, there are warungs and Padangs every were you look. Most Aussies or any tourists dont venture out of Kuta and dont expirience the flavour of the real Indonesisa. |
| 20th January 2006 Dan Hirn | Whose dream world are you travelling in? - From: And the lonely sailors laid with seals, believing them to be mermaids. Your African blog left me in turmoil trying to decide whether to email everybody I knew immediately OR check out the next entry. I was left feeling comparable to how I feel after seeing an amazing Magician, sort of amazed but frustrated at the same time. The world I live in doesn't include some of the colours seen in your pictures. Also, animals don't seem to pose for me!! You are truely talented and I am extremely inspired. I would love to see how you could capture Japan on film, particularly Mt. Fuji. I am a Canadian blogger living in Japan, and will be definitely reading future blogs (No pressure though). Thanks, and keep up the good work eh. |
| 19th January 2006 Amy | - From: Pokerface shows his hand Your photos are absolutly beautiful, you've made me want to visit this place. |
| 17th January 2006 Matt H | Large prints - From: "A picture is worth a thousand words - with a slide show you get both" - Anon The >A4 prints I've made from my 20D are impressive - certainly impressive to non-experts such as my family! I don't think you need worry too much about printing at less than 300dpi. I often print enlargements (or normal size crops) at 150dpi or even less on my Epson R800, when I need to. I'm almost always happy with how the print looks - which is the most important thing really. :) |
| 15th January 2006 The Open Road | I aspire to the greatness that is you... - From: And the lonely sailors laid with seals, believing them to be mermaids. As a fellow blogger, the quality of your writing and pictures is awe inspiring. I am a Canadian living in Leeds. Chile would be a welcome change to the Broken Windows, and gangs of Football Hooligans that is North East England. Keep inspiring me. |
| 13th January 2006 Lou | Wow - From: And the lonely sailors laid with seals, believing them to be mermaids. Dude your photography absolutely rocks. What equipment are you using? I read through heaps of your posts (which were awesome and should be sold to a travel mag for millions of bucks) but can't find any mention of what camera you're using? |
| 12th January 2006 Carol | Chile - From: And the lonely sailors laid with seals, believing them to be mermaids. Have always fancied South America, especially Chile: this site (newly discovered! due to now being on Broadband) absolutely made me want to go there - now! Your photograpy is absolutely wonderful (made me jealous). Please keep up the good work. (Ever thought of writing a book?) |
| 11th January 2006 keatingcwk | Cant Wait - From: Beauty and the Beasts I think your description is phenomenal. Thank you. We will be there in July 2006 and I personally cant wait. |
| 10th January 2006 Ruth | Pick-up-a-penguin - From: And the lonely sailors laid with seals, believing them to be mermaids. Glad you had a good Xmas/New Year and are still having fun. You couldn't bring me back one of those cute penguins could you?! Apart from them, you have to wonder we bothered with the Falklands ;-) We're coming home Feb/Mar so hopefully see you both again soon. Rx |

| 7th January 2006 Americano | great pictures! - From: The Hand of God your pictures make me want to travel EVERYWHERE! Are you a professional or is this just a hobby you're extremely good at?!? |
| 5th January 2006 Peter | - From: Little Red Riding Hood and the big bad Wolf Nice to read a journal about Tallinn, I went there a week ago. I must say, I really enjoyed staying for three days, though it was the coldest period in the year. We had minus 17 degrees celsius, but it felt like minus 25. Like said above, there are more cheap places. I only converted them to Euro's (more convenient, since I'm from The Netherlands), but for 7 Euro I had pasta, a pizza and half a liter of Carlsberg (which was a best of the rest option ;-) ). That is far more cheaper then overhere. But, when going out at night, prices are the same as in The Netherlands. But so are the clubs, so basicly it was worth every penny. There is just something I still do not understand, why are there so many beautifull women in this country. Me and my friends just couldn't get it. I really do want to come back once :) |
| 4th January 2006 Macaya | Sugerencia - From: The Hand of God Creo que esta bien, pero si vas hacia aya, no puedes perderte pasar a chile, es muy bonito y impresionante, alternan los dos paises puede se run viaje exelente. VIVA CHILE!!! |

| 3rd January 2006 Claire | Cant wait to get there - From: The Hand of God Loved the photos. Unfortunately the supply of veggies in Argentina doesnt really improve wherever you go, try asking for your steak en punto (I think!) and it may not be so overcooked but thereīs no guarantee. Feliz aņo! |

| 31st December 2005 lifeisgoodok | bali trip - From: At sea in the deep blue ocean Cumberland, you wrote a good, though a bit too long article on Bali. The more I read about Bali, the less I want to go there. I was intending visiting Vietnam and Bali after India but now that I have only a week, I might just go to Vietnam after India. When in another country, I like to see th locals in their sorroundings and eat their food. It appears that the local food is hard to get. I can eat just about any kind of food here in San Francisco. When in another country, I want to eat their home cooking. Seems like Bali is full of drunk Australians. Don't need that. Thanks, Cumberland. |
| 30th December 2005 Deep | Numbing - From: On the road with Maximum Velocidad My Jaw dropped to my knees .......this is totally out of the world. The pics are breathtakingly fresh...keep getting them in and enjoy your travel. |
| 29th December 2005 George | Photos - From: On the road with Maximum Velocidad Didn't have time to read the whole post - but your photos are excellent! I aspire to capture the world so artisticly. Well done. |
| 29th December 2005 beniblanco | Photography - From: On the road with Maximum Velocidad Hey mate, just like to tell you that you seem to have a nice talent for photography! Good luck rest of your travels! |
| 27th December 2005 MVP 2005 2006 | - From: On the road with Maximum Velocidad Your pictures here are absolutely gorgeous - and I'm particularly fond of all the Stiltword photos. Your mentioning of the two types of ignorance - honesty and dishonesty - resonates in virtually every country, to some degree. If it's any consolation, Jamaicans take their ability to fudge the truth to a whole new level...it would almost be admirable if it wasn't so annoying. |
| 24th December 2005 Martine | Incredible sights - From: On the road with Maximum Velocidad Just have to say - your photos are astounding. what amazing acuity and colours. Glad I stumbled acrossed your blog. |
| 20th December 2005 Cumberland Sausage | To Yorkshire Pud - From: I, Tourist Your question is difficult to answer without knowing more about your budget/motivations etc. Perhaps send an email via travelblog and I can answer in more detail. Botswana is great, and ranks as the best game viewing in Africa. The Chobe game cruise was one of the highlights of our trip. However game viewing in the Okavanga delta is hideously expensive. Otherwise I would say East Africa is more game and people whereas Southern Africa (where we visited) is more game and landscapes. East Africa is difficult to travel around independently whereas for Namibia and South Africa at least self-drive is an option. If you are new to Africa you might also consider South Africa, which is a more gentle introduction. For me the ideal trip would be Cape Town to Vic Falls via Namibia and Botswana, but then I like deserts! |
| 15th December 2005 Yorkshire Pud | Africa - From: I, Tourist I am very impressed with your photos. They are stunning. I liked Dove Lake especially. I have a question about Africa if you can find time answering: With 2-3 weeks in Sept and not being to Africa before would you go to Botswana/Namibia or Kenya/Tanzania/Zanzibar? It sounds as if you were disappointed with Botswana. Could that been down to the season? Many thanks in advance. |
| 11th December 2005 Al "paca" buckley | - From: I, Tourist Sorry its taken so long to reply but i've been struggling with ethnographic progress. Alpacas are smaller than Llamas and i think they have narrower faces. In fact niether of us are actually incorrect as Alpaca is a type of Llama. Llama being the genus and Alpaca the species; Llama is also as species under the genus Llama. Please pass this information onto your peruvian freinds so that they don't mis-inform any more bloggers. |

| 25th November 2005 Cumberland Sausage | Hairy horses - From: I, Tourist Dear Mr Al īPacaī, there are three photos of hairy horses on this page. Two I was assured by local Bolivianīs were Llamas, the last one to be honest I didnīt check. Not wishing to stand in the way of ethnographic progress, please can you enlighten us as to how to tell the difference ? |
| 25th November 2005 al "paca" Buckley | - From: I, Tourist I have read a great deal of travel blogs and normally enjoy this particular one immensely. However, on this occasion i feel it necessary to point out one particular factual inaccuracy. That's an alpaca and not a llama. I expect better in the future or the house gets it. |

| 22nd November 2005 dannyboy | AMAZING - From: I, Tourist Wow, you describe everything a reader might want to know! Your narrative and pictures are phenomenal. | 15th October 2005 Jerry Saale | Storing digital pics - From: "A picture is worth a thousand words - with a slide show you get both" - Anon I use a Sima Image Bank and the Apacer CP200 CD burner to store images while traveling. Having two copies of each image lets me sleep well. While one can buy blank CDs just about anywhere, I had to pay 2 Euro for a single CD-R in a small town in Italy. Ouch! Next time I'll pack more blanks. |
| 14th October 2005 andyrooheavens | Rob Blaker - From: Apple Museum? No, we spent too long at the Jam Factory Nice stories and photos! Actually i checked at Rob Blakers website ( http://www.robblakers.com/ ) and even though there is no change in the cursor, when you click on a thumbnail it opens a larger image in the page. I suspect this will only work in advanced versions of M$ Internet Explorer. |

Complete waste of time." She ended it with by calling me an Estonian swearword which, incidentally, is a legitimate abbreviation of my name. Anyway, I deleted it. If anyone is going to swear on this site it is going to be me. |

| 23rd June 2005 Ruth | Was just wondering.... - From: At long last, Pandas dancing on roller skates If the previous title 'Burning ring of fire' was a prediction of your current stomach problems? Anyway, the pandas are indeed cute (any chance you can bring one home with you?) and I hope you recover soon. We're just about to celebrate midsummer - my chance to watch Swedes get p*****d and dance round their equivalent of a Maypole. It takes all sorts I suppose...!!! Take care, Ruth |
