It was Sunday (29 Aug) evening when we arrived in Lörrach, at the nice family of Lenita. We came with light and thunder, since Joanna was stressed out with losing her passport. With my GPS device and photo's I tried to discover where it could be lost. We also tried to contact Claire and her Luxembourgishes Host, since we have stayed there for a few hours. However we only had the time to say hello to Lenita's family, they understood the problem and were really helpfull. The talked german to the Luxembourgh Police station in the hope to have Joanna's jacket at Lost and found. At the time we faced the situation as it is, and take a breather, have a drink with the family and talking the options how to continue futher, Claire responded our ... read more
My vacation, the europe-trip, started on Friday. After work I travelled to Maastricht. Maastricht is the largest city in the Southest part of the Netherlands next to borders of Belgium and Germany. In Maastricht was a couchsurfing Event and on Friday night we had a party at Marten's home. I had a lot of talks with couchsurfers, from Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, as well as Turkish, American, Irish, Polish, Italian, Indian and other cultures. The most significant person I talked to on this party was Joanna. Joanna is a 21-year-old girl from Groningen, done with her Bachelor's degree Biology study at her University and decided to take a lap year. As she will do a job in Poland (where she lived her first 3 years) that will start over 3 months, she had a gap to fill ... read more
This year's big trip is just exploring my own continent, Europe. Since Europe is the continent I grew up, I decided to see more and learn more about the different countries, cultures, languages and even a few currency. I will drive in Netherlands, Belgium, France, Switzerland, Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, Hungary, Austria, Slovakia, Czech and Germany to come back home again. I planned my trip carefully, I like to have a plan and to keep myself in action, but without obligations to get a shortcut and skip some parts. url=http://www.google.com/calendar/embed?src=odtkrl2ja48bltv1j87dhke0rk%40group.calendar.google.com&ctz=Europe/Amsterdam Wesley's plan (Google Calendar) My trip is also planned and looks like: url=http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=Den+Bosch,+Nederland&daddr=Maastricht,+Nederland+to:Straatsburg,+Bas-Rhin,+Elzas,+Frankrijk+to:Gen%C3%A8ve,+Zwits... read more
I am back again. Much too early after all the fun weeks I had, but work calls. Lets start this story with the last hours in Miami... At Labor Day Night we were sitting and drinking on the roof of the hostel. One of the girls went out yesterday but panicced out, then this friendly american guy helped her. This person is Kevin. Kevin was an local Miami guy who made it in the celebrity circuit. He was modelling and did some movies as actor (best role was in dark angel) and currently he just is living for working 1-day a week as fox news reporter. ;). In his spare time he is directing/writing his own movie or... just having fun in Miami. So he decided to hang out in a hostel for a change. I ... read more
Wow, Times flies! It's already saturday. Things are becoming more fun, after knowing more and more people.. On the second night, which was the last thing I posted in the previous blog I told you I met an Austrian guy Peter. I spent a lot of time the last couple of days with him. He told me that he was willing to go to Miami Downtown, so I said I was willing to join him. In Miami Downtown you have a 'monorail' or as it is called 'metromoover' which is above the ground and it's for free. It's very nice transportation, while you can just drive arround and see a lot of architecture. It's non-staffed, so you have a view on the sides, the back and the front. That's really nice. We decided to walk somewhat ... read more
So, my last blog title was "Sunshine State", that is the correct name for the state between october till may, but in june till september its 'hurricane season'. In these months, there is not a lot of tourist in Florida. While the temperatures are still tropical, its just to humid which makes its cloudy. Its like Light-and-Thunder every day. However thats just from time-to-time, just like the rain... All with all it ain't bad, its just empty on the streets and not a lot of nightlife right now. While the prizes here are still high (higher then in Miami Downtown or in most of the cities i have visited), they do have a lot of discounts. Like yesterday I had a lunch at a restaurant for half prize and a free cocktail.. So for 9 dollar ... read more
Hi all, the last couple of days havent been that interested compared to the rest. Although I found myself into some unforseen expenses. The last night in D.C. I went on a pub crawl, hosted from our Hostel. I just did so, while I hadnt done things in particulary with HI, which I enjoyed so much in Chicago. It was a nice tour. We went to Adams Morgan, a part of D.C. which is full of diversity and has over 100 place to go out too. Our guide brought us to a few, but most interested is just to be in a group with a lot of other people to talk with. However its very cheap with the dollar-euro rate, drinking a beer is still expensive. Heineken and Amstel are 2 popular dutch drinks, which both ... read more
Hi all, Its going fast, I am already on my third weekend in North-America, while it feels like I came yesterday. From a colder and rainy-like chicago I driven a lot of miles to go to Washington D.C. It's like 1000km. I didnt thought about the route, but it happens to be a toll-road from Indiana-Ohio-Pensylvania all to Maryland. I Driven most of the toll-road, but while I was having some rest places, I took a detour in Ohio. I went to Lake Erie, one of the 'great lakes' which seperates Ohio with Canada. Too bad though, that Everywhere you get pointed out by the visitor centers, you always find pay-parking spots. I just hate to spend money for a quick view, just that I hate to pay for toll-roads... Maybe its me, the cheap Dutch ... read more
Hey Best readers :) First, thanks of your comments so far, nice to hear you actually reading (well, this site also keep statistics, so nothing keeps unseen!). I had a great time in Montreal. The place which I was sleeping was actually very hot. It was an not-ventilated room into the basement. One half were like 14 beds and on the other half were all the showers. Still with a lot of alcohol, it slept quite nice :). And I did enjoy the evenings. At the first night I drink with a lot of britisch guys, just in the garden at the hostel. I could feel I drank quite some when I woke up the day after. I actually had great plans in Montreal, to see a lot. I got advised to bike arround and since ... read more
Wow, What an amazing places there are arround here. On Tuesday the 19th I have been traveling towards Boston. My first driving experiences were chaotic, when I went driving like a blind chicken arround. It cost my 1 toll to get to speak someone who was pointing me the right direction and another toll to get on the highway as she told I should go. This was at Turnpike North arround Jersey city next to New York State. In holland we used to have this big signs with 2-3-4 cities on it and how much distance it will take before getting it. It always shows the next big cities. In USA however, no big cities were shown and I didnt had a clue which small cities were on my road to Boston. But the idea of ... read more
