| 23rd November 2008 Cowboy Jake Down Under | Dew the dew! - From: Raging Thunder! One of my favourite excursions on this whole trip was that 13Km trip down the Tully River. I didn't talk about it too much, but the scenery was simply spectacular. It was like being in a movie that had scenes in a tropical rainforest. |
| 23rd November 2008 Cowboy Jake Down Under | It was intense - From: Sky Diving in Cairns! You can imagine the adrenaline rush if you think about being on drop zone and multiply it by about 50. |
| 23rd November 2008 Cowboy Jake Down Under | The wines are really nice - From: Fishing finally...Cairns and Sydney here we come. I'm going on a wine tour today and going to take a lot of photos. I'm behind on my posting, so I'll be writing up a bunch of stuff hopefully later today. |
| 23rd November 2008 Julian | - From: Great Barrier Reef I'll join you. |
| 23rd November 2008 Julian | Speechless, yet again. - From: Raging Thunder! This looked like a Mountain Dew commercial. Truly Extreme. Your Got Soaked Pic is great cause you are the only guy looking at the camera, aside from the instructor. The waterfall looks so refreshing. |
| 23rd November 2008 Julian | holy fuck! - From: Sky Diving in Cairns! I totally agree with Wheels....my heart was pumping with your description. I was eating grapes in front of my computer screen as if eating popcorn while watching an amazing action movie in the cinemas. Very good, I want to hear about it in person though. Fucking intense Jake. How many drops of pee came out? Be honest... |
| 23rd November 2008 Julian | Looks amazing - From: Fishing finally...Cairns and Sydney here we come. The food you are making looks amazing. So fresh, can't get any better than that. And the wines, hope they were as good as the food. |
| 23rd November 2008 Cowboy Jake Down Under | That's true - From: So much to do in Australia. You can't stare into the Sun too long south of the equator or you might go blind, that is, unless you have polarised sunglasses. haha |
| 23rd November 2008 Cowboy Jake Down Under | Vineyards - From: So much to do in Australia. I'm going on Tuesday, it's a tour of several different vineyards with tasting and meals included. They drink a lot of sparkling wine here also and they are very refined actually. It easy to detect wild fruit and berry flavours in the bouquet and they are even more pronounced on the palette. My favourite so far has had lychee flavours, very exotic. You should see how inexpensive Wolf Blass wines are here, it’s ridiculous. You can get a good bottle of Shiraz for next to nothing, but I’ve been more into the whites because when it’s 30*C nothing cools you down better than a nice Riesling or Semillon Blanc. Cheers. |
| 22nd November 2008 KING | Rain Tomorrow? - From: In Sydney eh! rain did you say? It's green here ...under 5" of snow..Ha..Ha. Did tour a vineyard yet?,or the different tastings is good enough? |
| 22nd November 2008 King | Re: Nude Beach--Taken! - From: So much to do in Australia. Cowboy Jake---- When your on a died you can still look at the MENU |
| 21st November 2008 Cowboy Jake Down Under | Thanks Tivie - From: Great Barrier Reef I really appreciate the comment, it's nice to hear that I'm able to explain what I experienced and have you understand the feeling. The great barrier reef may be the most beautiful thing I have ever seen in nature and I think that anyone who experiences it must feel the same way. Can't wait to see you at Christmas! Love Jake. |
| 20th November 2008 Auntie Sylvie | so happy - From: Great Barrier Reef Jakob and Nick, I am so happy for both of you and that you are both expearicing this aventure together. I am just loving coming home and reading your blogs that make me laugh so hard and then today was the day you got me. Just looking at these pictures i had tears in my eyes, from the beauty and trying to imagine the feeling that you must have had just seeing all this. Enjoy the rest of your holiday and know that I am so happy for you. One of my favorite picture is the one of you and the kangaroo that is so priceless. Love you lots |
| 20th November 2008 Cowboy Jake Down Under | You would love the rafting! - From: Raging Thunder! I know that you would have probably come close to death during the trip because you would have tried to wrestle a crocodile or kill a snake with your teeth. I almost got stung by a werid fish today and the guide told me I would have cried if had got me. Australia has the deadliest wildlife in the world, everything here hurts you. |
| 20th November 2008 Cowboy Jake Down Under | I needed your help. - From: No fishing! I needed an engineer to help me choose the proper binding medium with a good modulus strength and high melting point...I don't know if that makes sense but it sounds good. By the way, I kicked ass at the science fair in elementary school, but my dad always helped me cheat! |
| 20th November 2008 Cowboy Jake Down Under | When are we going together mom? - From: Sky Diving in Cairns! For your birthday I'm going to take you sky-diving so start praying that the parachute opens now! You think I'm insane don't you? |
| 20th November 2008 Cowboy Jake Down Under | Go sky-diving! - From: Sky Diving in Cairns! It was seriously one of the most amazing things I have ever done and I would suggest it for anyone who has a healthy heart. You have to bring your own diaper though, in your case an adult sized one. |
| 20th November 2008 Cowboy Jake Down Under | hey Jordan - From: Gone Fishin' Nick and I went river fishing today and didn't catch too much, but Nick did catch a Baramundi which was 80cm long and weighed about 6kilos, they measure everything in metric here. It jumped about three feet out of the water. I caught a flathead, which looks really weird but apparently tastes really good. I'll post some pictures later. I don't think they fish a lot of tarpon here, but I'll look into it. Talk to you later bud. |
| 20th November 2008 Jason | - From: Raging Thunder! holy shit man, that sounds EXTREEEEEEME!!!!!! your trip looks f-ckin awesome |
| 19th November 2008 anonymous | - From: No fishing! You made that out of popsicle sticks? That's quite impressive dude. If only you used a glue with a higher melting point though... |
| 19th November 2008 boulay66 | Tarpon - From: Gone Fishin' hey jake its Jordan and I just wanted to say if their tarpon in Australia you should go and fish for them since they fight like crazy and like jump and everything |
| 18th November 2008 Your mother! | Wow! - From: Sky Diving in Cairns! All I can say is OH MY GOD! |
| 18th November 2008 Wheels | WOW - From: Sky Diving in Cairns! Very impressive men. From the description it's almost like I went sky-diving with you guys. Keep up the intense adventure and I look forward to hearing all about the rest of it. Cheers |
| 12th November 2008 Cowboy Jake Down Under | Jake Myth #1 - From: Exciting News! I can so swim! I usually just pretend I can't so I don't have to go into the water. I always make exceptions for oceans, I swam all the time in Brazil. I only like swimming in salt water, it's easier because there is more buoyancy! |
| 12th November 2008 Cowboy Jake Down Under | I know! - From: Gone Fishin' You think I haven't been thinking about that? It looks like you are having a great time and I would love to visit you. We'll keep talking. |
| 12th November 2008 Mom | You can't swim!!!! - From: Exciting News! You spend all that time on the water and you can't swim! I think you're going to need more than water wings for white water rafting. Be careful while you're having all this fun... |
| 12th November 2008 Nathanho7 | EXTREME! - From: Exciting News! EXTREEEEEEEEMEEEEE! |
| 12th November 2008 Nathanho7 | - From: Gone Fishin' Come to HK man, you like asian cuisine...I will be here waiting. Good luck with fishing. |
| 12th November 2008 Doggins | Bondi - From: Exciting News! I think you'll find the beaches in Cairns are better than Bondi (check out Palm Cove) If you can, go all the way up to Port Douglas, it's about an hour north of Cairns! Well worth the trip! there are plenty of buses. |
| 11th November 2008 Cowboy Jake Down Under | Water Wings! - From: Exciting News! Thanks for the concern but I packed my water wings. I never leave home without them. |
| 11th November 2008 Calvin | - From: Exciting News! Hey guys, all that sounds really awesome. But from the last I remember Jake you can't swim, and if I'm not there to be your lifeguard I hope Nick can pick up the slack. Once again, catch me a shark. Cheers boys. |
| 10th November 2008 Cowboy Jake Down Under | Hot weather - From: Just arrived Mate! It's crazy how hot it is here, it seems to never dip below 20C even at night. It's hard to find a good time to go for a run. |
| 10th November 2008 Nathanho7 | Already seeing similarities - From: Just arrived Mate! Hey Jake - good to know that we're both now on the Pacific Rim together. FUCK YOU JULIAN and JASON!!! Haha... Anyway, I wanted to point out the similarities in warm weather, green trees and plants, and the left side of the road driving here in Hong Kong. |
| 10th November 2008 boulay66 | glad you're having fun - From: Just arrived Mate! Hi Jakob, I sure am glad you are enjoying yourself. Keep posting picutres because we will keep on looking at them. See you at Christmas... Jordan & Auntie Carole |
| 10th November 2008 Cowboy Jake Down Under | Revised zoo pics - From: Crikey! Thanks to Julian's comment I have sorted the zoo pics out and added comments to many of them. I hope this makes them more enjoyable. |
| 10th November 2008 Cowboy Jake Down Under | Juju - From: Crikey! Thanks for the comment Julian. Sorry I didn't write down more about the pics. I probably shouldn't have posted so many either. I will definitely try to make the pics more descriptive in the future. The kangaroos were my favourite because they were sooo soft and fun to hang out with. Koalas are pretty soft too, but they sleep between 18-20Hrs a day! Their diet consists only of Eucalyptus which is very low in energy and this is why they sleep so much. We had a lot of snake pics because Nick loves snakes. Nick snake fact: when snakes eat a meal they digest the bones of the animal because they need that calcium for their own bone growth. Without the bones from the meal, snakes could not survive. |
| 10th November 2008 Cowboy Jake Down Under | Not a porcupine. - From: Crikey! That was Echnida, it looks like a porcupine. You can pick these little guys up but you have to be careful. |
| 10th November 2008 Julian | Sweet pics - From: Crikey! Looks like you had a great time at the zoo. So jealous that you got to hang out with the Kangaroos, I would've brought a book and just laid down in the sun with them all afternoon...and it seemed like you were the only guys there. Lots of snake pics, figures Mr. Jake the Snake. The koalas looked so peaceful, I heard they weren't as soft as everyone thinks, is it true? All in all, good choice on the zoo excursion. Do they have a seaworld, I'm sure that would be amazing....or just scuba dive in the barrier reef. Suggestion - you should name the pics and add little comments about them, us blog readers want to know your exact thoughts at the moment because we thrive on the vicarious experience. We can see what you see with the pics, but we want to know what you're thinking too! The more "in-your-perspective" thoughts and opinions the better. |
| 8th November 2008 Carly | - From: Crikey! those kangaroos were soooo cute!!! for some reason i thought they would be way bigger. i found the picture of you cuddling with one. hahahahahaha. was that a little porcupine you took pictures of on page 6? |
