It was the morning after the night before...the night that we decided to take 'easy' and get a fwe beers and chill out because it was to be another long day ahead. There is something addictive about Thai beer. We got chatting to two girls in the computer room of the hostel and that was that! Good craic and we ended up going out for more beer after calling it a night at I don't know what time. Sonny woke us at 6.30am for a wake up call and said we had 40 minutes to get ready. It was one of those ones....40 minutes...sweet I'll just close my eyes for another 5. 40minutes later and the phone went again ''Hi Claire your guide is here for the day''. We jumped out of bed and made it ... read more

Today our of all the days I've been here has to have been my favourite. It was just so fun filled and the fact that we woke up before midday was a bonus! At 8.30 this morning a mini-bus came to collect us from our hostel for a day of trekking! And what a day it was! After collecting a family and a couple from their separate hotels we enjoyed about an hour long travel just outside Chaing Mai to a district called Maewin. The day started with a walk around the local tribe where we could see their live stock, go inside their homes and see what way they made their scarves. To be honest the way in which they made them was so impressive. It took them 3 days from start to finish. The ... read more

We woke up this morning, or should I say afternoon, (for some reason we are sleeping SO much and are still so tired during the day...it couldn't still be jet lag? Or maybe its just the heat...) But anyways, luckily this morning I did not wake up with a further 7 mosquito bites all over my legs! Once we got sorted there is a Thai massage place right outside our hostel. We decided to go in to have a relaxing start to the day. We weer brought into a tiny, dark room with music in the background and asked to put on the traditional Thai clothes. Oh god, Conor and I had the trousers on back to front and didn't know how to Thai them, when the Thai women came back in the basically had to ... read more

We decided to have a nice chill out morning as that afternoon we were to be traveling up to Chiang Mai. we took a walk around the city and decided to pay a visit to a snake farm in Bangkok. Unfortunately as it was still the Buddhist holiday the farm was only open until 1pm and the usual show of extracting the venom was cancelled. Although this would have been brilliant to actually see. On the way to the snake farm a man stopped us and asked us where we were going. He seemed like a lovely, helpful Thai man and was interested in what we wanted to see and do. He recommended the snake farm but warned us that it might be closed. On the way back we called into a Thai silk shop called ... read more

Still with the jet lag no where near over us, it was the second chance to try our luck at the Grand Palace. Same trek as the day before we made it to the Grand Palace and actually made it in this time! So much percision into every detail and the amount of gold that was used! A tiny square sheet of gold actually came off one of the Buddha's and fell on Conors finger. It was so light. Unfortunately, today was the day that I was to feel ill, really bad stomach cramps, along with the heat (it didn't help the fact that I was given an extra layer of clothes to wear inside the grand palace). So after seeing what was to be seen, home was calling. Our lovely hostel with the air conditioning ... read more

It was so good waking up with a fresh mind with a plan! Well not so much a plan but to chill out, relax and tosee the sights. If there was one thing we learnt about Europe it was to relax more and still see the same amount. At times in Europe maybe we rushed and thought that we had to do thing after thing but now, because we are in such a beautiful place in the world we can enjoy it and savour the moments. Saying that, it did take us a while to get sorted and out of the hostel! That air conditioning was too nice to leave! But we left and sure, of course, within 2 minutes of leaving the hostel...a tuk-tuk (anyone that has been in Thailand will know what I mean). ... read more

Well the first start on our Thailand adventure was Bangkok. Finally arrived at 1 p.m. after traveling for 30 hours. The excitement kept us awake though, we finally arrived at the hostel and realised that we were a day late. Our answers were ''Eh why? What day is it?'' We hadn't taken into consideration what day it would be with the time difference etc...(or should I say Conor didn't!). Thankfully there were no problems. The hostel was great, a lovely smoking area out the front, a bar area with extra tables and chairs and an internet area. Also equipped with games like scrabble and jenga which was ideal for killing time before a bus or plane ride. As we were so tired we went up to the room straight away for a ''nap'', which like in ... read more
