| 10th July 2008 Taman | Good blog - From: Beautiful Ramshackleness.... I went to Georgia almost a year ago and hunger to go back to see Svaneti. Your blog has increased this hunger. I'm new to this site so I will be posting some of my Georgia ramblings in due course! |
| 6th July 2008 leny84 | alrite - From: Beautiful Ramshackleness.... the first pig looks like sumtin outa Mad Max.....gas lavatory scene meleady, one wrong step brother, drunk or sober, that all it take's, N' yer deep in it..... Any update on george's condition? |
| 30th June 2008 His Dudeness | Hmmm... Vodka!! - From: Beautiful Ramshackleness.... This brings back good memories... Though my family was in mourning as their son had just been killed in a knife fight in Tblisi (only found that out on my last they there... Until then I thought black was just a fashion statement with them)... Still they gave the traditional big meals, the traditional lines of vodka, singing, wine and all that... Georgia, I really love the country!! As for Batumi! Yep, grey, grey, grey... I too left after one day... |
| 30th June 2008 kinger | - From: Beautiful Ramshackleness.... meleady is that you on the bottom? I'd know that arse anywhere!!!! |
| 30th June 2008 Jakub Krusina | - From: Beautiful Ramshackleness.... Lucky you! I've always dreamed of visiting Svanety! It looks just amazing. I am in Georgia right now in fact, but unfortunately I don't think I'll be having enough time to visit the region. Thankx for mediating the experience for us! Comment to the competition photo: Who says it always good to come first!? |
| 28th June 2008 aspiringnomad | Superb - From: Beautiful Ramshackleness.... For a minute there I thought you were gonna fork out the seventy euros! Excellent entry, brings back memories...Fingers crossed you make it to Tusheti mate. |
| 26th June 2008 ConMel | - From: In the shadow of the fading cross Thanks, I think Christianity in the East generally managed to steer clear of the power struggles that spoiled the religion in western Europe, and remained a private, spiritual faith without the accumulated baggage of the Catholic Church. |
| 26th June 2008 Andrew | Good entry - From: In the shadow of the fading cross Thank you Irish Traveller. That's a brilliant entry. It describes a Christianity we should all know about. In the West we still assume that Christianity is allied to the ruling power - perhaps the Christians of Syria will show the West a different way. (Of course "Syrian Christians" are a different concept, as many of them are in India!!) |
| 25th June 2008 ConMel | - From: Why we travel Hi, go ahead and use it, and thanks! Conor. |
| 11th June 2008 ozcan | very funny - From: Why we travel hi Conmel...your article about Turkey trip is really funny...I would like to publish this article on cafebabel.com magazines' istanbul team blog... istanbul blog, http://istanbul.cafebabel.com/en/ |

| 31st May 2008 bohemianwonderwoman | Damascus rocks! - From: Why not go to Syria? hey, great blog. I went to Damascus a few months ago and had an ace time. The city's not renowned for it's nightlife but it is there hidden away. Try and find a bar/restaurant called Oxygen in the old town...it's the best that Damascus nightlife has to offer. And take a cab out to Malula the last place on Earth they still speak Aramaic. Have fun!!! |
| 31st May 2008 aspiringnomad | The problem with Irish passport holders... - From: Why not go to Syria? They go to Syria on a whim, not realising how much of a pain it is for us imperialist folk to get visas...and then they hang around souks after dark teaching the locals to be more assertive! |
| 30th May 2008 kinger | - From: Why not go to Syria? Them bleeding israeli' s f*ckers!! Hope your enjoying it man!! |
| 12th January 2008 zartash | Excellent - From: Heaven and Hell You made me remember my trip to Northern Areas! |
| 18th October 2007 ConMel | Kaushik - From: Alternative India Hi, I actually agree with your entire post, the truth is that travelling, despite all its wonders, can often be a very shallow experience, as you skim cultures and religions, make five-mintues friends, etc. Often circumstances force you into rushed judgements, which is exactly what I did regarding Hinduism, a complex philosophy that was simply beyond me during my 5-month trip. |
| 18th October 2007 ConMel | Hi - From: Last hurrah in the city of the dead Thanks! Irish people are still getting used to the influx of foreigners, glad you found them mostly friendly. And the women! They'll be glad to hear that, cause us Irish men mostly give them an awful time.... |
| 18th October 2007 ash from new delhi india | Nice read - From: Last hurrah in the city of the dead Hey , I was just trying to google if hindus could drink liquor in pakistan, and your site came up... it was a pleasant read, specially your analysis of people behavioural aspects. I lived in dublin for 2 years, except few, most Irish People were nice and friendly, very noisy in pubs, found irish women very beautiful but shy with foreigners. |
| 4th October 2007 Kaushik | Hinduism - Thread: Alternative India - From: Alternative India I was reading your blog. Very entertaining indeed but some of your thoughts are probably just peripheral and should I say shallow ? .......You may have had free meals at Golden Temple or hassle free time at Mosques but Hinduism is a way of thinking. It is not about temples. If possible try not to judge it by the "pandas" of Hardwar, Pushkar or Omkareshwar or any other temple. It is like foolishly saying the sculptures of Khajuraho is pornography....... or Kamasutra is for titillation (come to think of it .. this brand is more symbolic and popular in West than in India). Like someone before me in this thread pointed out that you should read more with your mind than eyes. Probably a good point to start is to explore the date of origin of these religion and ......... ( so much I can write ...but I leave it to your "mind" now). ..... |
| 21st September 2007 anonymous | - From: Reflections on Morocco Hilarious about the carpets the first time round!! I know that feeling! |

But, you went to Varanasi and you didn't see the famous temples, largest residential university of Aisa - Banaras Hindu University, and elegant/historic buddhism place Sarnath? You definitely need to make a trip to Varanasi again :-) |

| 9th February 2006 joey | An Envious Couch Potato - From: Name games I totally agree with you. It would be nice if Macedonians and Greeks, Americans and Iraqis and Iranians, Christians,Moslems,Sikhs,Jews and all the other people could get along. I am a quarter Greek, a quarter Norwegian and the end product of nine other nationalities - I can't afford to be bigotted or prejudiced against any race or religion because I probably have that in my background too! I am an authentic American mongrel! I also have never been further than Canada in 63 years. I envy you, young lady! |
| 24th January 2006 aspiringnomad | - From: West coast retreat Yeah, it's hard for the lads to get motivated for those tit-for-tat domestic squabbles these days. I think the 5(FIVE) times European Champions were probably pondering the futility of such a pointless game, and dreaming of their inevitable annihilation of the that third-rate Portuguese outfit Benfica? Someone has to be an ambassador for the Premiership right? Don't worry mate, we'll avenge your humiliation! |

| 3rd December 2005 Maeve | Bro - From: Hassles and Castles Hey little brother... thought i'd be really corny and add comment just to say hi and we're all thinking bout you. Your stories sound amazing..i'm sure you're learning more and more that you have to accept things the way they are and make the most of the realities... life goes on.. Talk soon, luv,MaeveXXXXXX |
| 3rd December 2005 ConMel | RE: Ah, the madness - From: Hassles and Castles I don't know, all Europeans I've met here seem to do is moan about America, bitch about Israelis, and boast about how little money they've spent in India. Boring! |
| 1st December 2005 Maria | Ah, the Madness! - From: Hassles and Castles I appreciated your comments on the north, as I suspected that the chaos could be a turn off for a soon-to-be first time traveler to India. I opted for a tour of the 3 southern-most states. I was going to take a week and fly up to Rajasthan, but your comments give me pause... By the way, what is it about American commentary that entertains you more than the European? I'm just curious, because as a U.S. citizen, I find it the other way around when I travel. |
| 30th November 2005 Naveen | Good trip bad trip - From: Hassles and Castles You see what you choose to see. India is far from perfect... I just hope you'll give us a second chance. Good luck with travel. |

| 30th October 2005 ConMel | Ouch? - From: Patience......pushed Why sorry? - overall I came away with a pretty good impression of your country and its people. I'd go back again, without a doubt, and give the place the time it deserves. Not this trip though. |
| 29th October 2005 Albanian in Canada | ouch - From: Patience......pushed I just don't understand why were you avoiding Tirana? I am sure you would have found tons of Irish Pubs there... I am also sorry about nightmarish experience in back country roads... I guess you should have researched it better... Albania is not the kind of place you just stumble around. To have fun there, you need to plan and research a lot in advance... Cheers, Albanian Canuck http://www.digitalobjective.com |
| 28th October 2005 mary-anne | pristina - From: A dash through no man's land My son-in-law stayed there with his family for 6 years. He attended the university there. But now this month he and his mother become US citizens. They were without a country after fleeing their home (300 years in the family) outside Glina, Croatia. Kosovo was a difficult place for them as well, all because they are Orthodox. We spent a month in Croatia, Bosnia, and Montenegro loved it, but the veil of war is still firmly attached everywhere. |
| 26th October 2005 aspiringnomad | Excellent blog mate - From: Heaven and Hell ...Very diplomatic and educational. Well done not to hype your presence in Pakistan during the terrible events... Enjoy Lahore...you'll find soon enough that it's a little different from India;-) and spend a few days at the Golden Temple...you'll see! Keep em coming. |

| 12th September 2005 burin | yes - From: Bored on holidays yes, it's the only thing to do: to stare at a beautiful landscape. i never realized what is the point with all that tourists that take photo camera with themselves - you can buy some brochure and you will have much better photos than those you are heavily spending time to make. let me tell you one secret: it was really fun on croatian coast about 6-7 years ago, when there were almost no tourists, just brave ones that were not afraid of traces of war. now it is as stupid as can be imagined. the guy that has to spend a year in dubrovnik is telling you so... luckilly when i get real bored i have room to escape... to sarajevo! and these guys with the bulb are simply one subspecies of croats: lazy croats! |

Forgot to tell you the Dubs won the Leinster Final but you probably know by now!! UP THE DUBS!!! Any enough about that Keano is acting the bo%&ox with Utd giving out and being sent home from China again I dont think he likes the Aisans, could be because they are small and he cannot slide tackle them cos he'd knock them into next week. Take it easy mate and enjoy the Kosovo Experience, oh and say hello to Charlene. Legends!!! |
