If you've ever been on a cruise you probably remember that in one of the last daily newsletters there is a listing of the amounts of commodoties used on the trip usually food and liquor. Well it's in that same spirit that we present a few statistics from our wonderful trip. days 74 miles driven 12643 number of states 31 number of Nat'l.

We left Williams yesterday and drove to Sedona via Oak Creek Canyon. There were some spectacular views as we first climbed some and then descended well over 2000 feet into Sedona. After a quick stop at the Visitor Center and a wonderful lunch at the Coffee Pot Restaurant we set out to explore the town a bit. Incidentally the restaurant got its name from the rock formation behind it that loo

First of all must issue a disclaimer Tom had a really tough time downloading the pics for this blog so they are a little jumbled. However we are trusting in the intelligence and discernment of our readers to figure it out One of the greatest things about this trip has been the ability to stop whenever we want. On the way from Durango to Santa Fe we saw a sign that said Aztec Ruins Na

Durango Silverton Train and Mesa Verde Natl Park

We've had two really amazing days here in Durango Driving here from Limon the scenery changed from flatland to the mountains that we mostly associate with Colorado. Durango itself is a little over 6000 feet in elevation. On Monday we took the DurangoSilverton Narrow Gauge Railway left at 815 am returning at 530 pm with a 2hour lunch stop in Silverton. When we boarded the train from t

When we left you we were in Clarkesville Tennessee and we are now on our third day in Durango Colorado. Apologies for being so long between blogs but we've been really busy. After leaving Tennessee we drove through a bit of Kentucky Illinois and Missouri spending the night in Kansas City. As you can see we saw an unexpected bit of fall color in those states and were both quite surpri

Visiting Family in South Carolina

The significant thing that happened today is that we FINALLY left South Carolina After being in Hilton Head for a week we left for Greenwood SC after a telephone call with the endodontist. Tom's brother Stan also known by his family name of Buddy and his wife Carol live there. We enjoyed spending time with them in Maui earlier this summer and were anxious to see them again. We spent a wo

Hi from Hilton Head Island South Carolina. If you like to golf this is the place for you....there are 17 courses on the island. We've taken advantage of our week here to relax a bit. The beach scenes are a 5minute walk from the condo. I think the beach grass just says Atlantic Ocean and is so picturesque. Tuesday night we went to the local comedy club and once we found it had a fun ine

Historic Charleston Savannah

Once we realized that Charleston was a bit further from Hilton Head than we realized over 2 hours we decided to stop and sightsee there before going on to our condo. We took a carriage ride through the historic district and it was the perfect way to see this part of the city because of the narrow width of the streets and the slow pace gave us ample time to really take in the scenery.
Travelling through the East

Even though the main purpose of our travels these past two days has been to work our way south to Hilton Head S.C. we've seen and experienced some really interesting things. Yesterday was a 4state day beginning in New Jersey continuing on through Delaware and Maryland and spending the night in Norfolk Virginia. We took a car ferry from Cape May NJ to Lewes DE an 80 minute trip and 17

Philly Atlantic City

Yesterday we felt as if we had another history lesson It was a fairly short drive from our hotel here in Atlantic City to Philadelphia about 1 14 hours although we paid a total of 7.75 in tolls. Tom was so excited that he got off one exit early and as we circling in order to get back on the highway he spied a sign that indicated a house as the birthplace of Edgar Allan Poe. Of course he

As you can see from the pictures we had a very full couple of days in New York City The first few pics though were still from Cape Cod....the resort had a little puttputt golf course and Tom finally got me out there on our last day. The Wampoanag tribe the Pilgrims' Indians still have a strong presence in Mashpee with a cemetery meeting house and museum and Tom was especially intere

On Tuesday we got up early in order to get over the Bourne Bridge since they are still working on the Sagamore Bridge and into Boston before the morning rush and we were parked under the Boston Commons by about 745. We got on the Beantown Trolley a hopon hopoff tour of Boston. We felt that it was a fairly comprehensive tour even going across the salt and pepper shaker bridge into Camb

Yesterday we left early for Provincetown in order to catch the 10 am whale watching trip. It was a gorgeous day with calm seas even though the boat had to turn back the previous day because of rough seas. There is a marine sanctuary not too far off the tip of the cape where the humpback whales gather to feed on their migration and that's where the boat headed. The naturalist on board was wonde

Luckily for us it was easier to leave downtown Montreal that it was to get there probably partly because it was 6 am on a Saturday. We ate breakfast in Waterbury VT and that was the beginning of a day spent eating our way across this part of the state. We went first to Cabot Creamery the 100 yearold dairy cooperative responsible for the cheeses of the same name. Even though the pla

Tom plotted a new route which took us back into the U.S. via Buffalo rather than around Lake Ontario which saved us about 3 hours driving time.
Greetings from Canada Let me back up a bit....We left Greentown Indiana Monday morning and drove to Cleveland. We spent about three hours at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Museum. We really enjoyed it but were somehow expecting more. In talking to our waitress at dinner that night it sounds as if that's a widely held opinion in the city. I especially enjoyed the Bruce Springsteen e

Happy Labor Day weekend to you all We had an interesting afternoon yesterday on our drive from Joliet to Kokomo Indiana where we are staying with Michelle Kevin Tom's sister and her husband. In Merrillville IN we stopped at a candy factory where we bought some goodies. I was enjoying some licorice taffy and guess what I lost one of my gold crowns.
