What an exhausting weekend, but it's a good exhaustion. I spent this weekend in Cinque Terre, which means the five cities. It is a place with 5 different cities along the northwest coast of Italy, along the Italian Riviera. It is easier to reach by train, and then, if weather permits, people can hike between the different villages. The five villiages (starting from the most southern city) are: Riogiomorre, Monorola, Corniglia, Vernazza, and Monterossa. All five of them were pretty neat, but I think that Monorola was definaitely my favorite. Friday morning, we woke up early, again, to c [View Full Entry]

Hello Mediterranean Sea
Rock

Hello all, I just thought I'd put in a quick blog entry. This week has just been busy with classes, but today was wonderful. Out art history class teacher took us to go see the famous David statue created by Michelangelo, which was incredible. It stood over 8 feet tall, and was so life-like. Michelangelo put so much detail into it, you almost expect him(the David) to be a living, breathing person. We weren't supposed to take pictures, but I was able to snap one......I know, sneaky me. I just couldn't resist because it was so incredible. The picture does absolutely [View Full Entry]

Wow, this weekend was a fun one with lots of train travel, and last minute adjustments to travel plans. Friday, I stayed in Florence, and took a bus to a different part of Florence that I have not seen; it was the Piazza Michelangelo which had a gorgeous overlook of the whole city. It was definately nice, and a neat place to see. I plan on going back to walk around (or go for a run) and explore a little more in that area. On Saturday, I woke up at the crack of dawn (okay, more like 6:30 am-still early), to [View Full Entry]

My full first week of being in Italy and having class all week was pretty busy. Monday and Tuesday was just normal, class pretty much all day. On Wednesday, we went into Florence with, Francesco, our art history teacher, who took us to 2 different churches, as well as some of the architecture we have been studying. It was really neat to see things we have been seing in pictures, in real life. The highlight of the trip was seeing the tombs of the Medici family, royalty from the age of Michelangelo. I don't have any pictures, because they didn't allow [View Full Entry]

Ciao! It's the end of the week, and I thought I would give you guys a little update on what's been going on. This weekend, most of us decided to stay in Florence and do some sightseeing around here. Thursday night was a really entertaining night. We had an Italian band come in and play some music for us. It was a little welcoming party we. They were really good, and even ended up teaching us some dances, like the Italian hokey pokey. Friday morning, my roomates and I got up for a run. It was pretty interesting, because there aren't [View Full Entry]

Buenosuera! Just want to let you know that I made it to Florence (Settignano) Italy safe and sound. It was quite the journey. I think I packed fairly light for the trip, especially compared to some others. My first experiences getting around Italy were a little difficult and intimidating (everyone moves and talks so fast!), but it was fun. We (my traveling group) laughed a lot because we pretty much stuck out like sore thumbs. My first plane ride was good. I made to Atlanta on time, and even though directionally challenged, I was able to find my way around the [View Full Entry]

Hello All,Okay, so I now have about 10 days until I leave for Italy, and still about 600 pages to read from a book......But, I'm getting pretty excited.  Sorry there hasn't been any posts lately, but I haven't had anything to write.  I was just posting this blog to let you all know that this is the blog site I am going to use (I opened another one through g-mail, but I couldn't use it because I couldn't figure out how to add pictures).  Anyway, I'll just add a few pictures from my life at home right now and some of [View Full Entry]
