Last year, I had the opportunity to study abroad in Florence, Italy for 3 months. So, I started my blog to keep everyone at home updated on my travels. Now, this summer, I am planning to spend one month in Puerto Rico to study Spanish. I'm looking forward to a new experience, living near the beach, and salsa dancing! Hopefully I'll be able to share some good stories from Puerto Rico too.

And, in a nutshell, I love running, traveling, and chocholate (basically, I'm a choco-holic).

Well, classes have finally come to an end! They ended Thursday, with no tests! We had a final "ensayo" or essay for my "Leer para Redactar" class over a controversial issue (my topic was immigration laws - not easy to write about in Spanish.....) and then a serious, reflective speech for my "Comunicacion oral" class (5 minutes long - eek!). I chose to talk about a piece of Spanish literature I read last semester, and how the different literary elements affected the theme. It was probably boring, but oh well! It was a relief to make it through all the classes! But we are really going to miss all the students because they were so great and lots of fun. Thursday night, we went to dinner at our favorite restaraunt "El Recreo", the little one right ... read more

Hola Todos, Yet again, another entry to describe the craziness of the last few days! Last wednesday we lucked out with no class, because they were having graduation at the college that day. We took the opportunity to go to Viejo San Juan and finish the pruebas (little quizes) of around town that our teacher from Benedictine gave us. Unfortunately, it was blazing hot that day, and we were all "strugs" but we were able to finish up the quizzes and even get some souvineer shopping in. Other than that, this past week was pretty normal with classes and school work, except for Friday. We have some friends in our comunicacion oral class, that were able to set up a 'field trip' for us with the help of our professor and the head of the student ... read more

Hello All, Hola Todos, Ciao Tutti - Warning, may be a long entry. But don't read it all, most of it is for my memories :) Here's just another update on my life! Friday started off fun, with a trip to the Bacardi Rum factory. La oficina de los estudiantes de intercambio had a field trip thing planned for the 5 exchange students from Benedictine, and the 3 from Louisiana. We hopped into a school van, and were off. I was sitting in the front seat, with my friend Brandon, and I quikly realized that my seatbelt was not functioning, because it had slid underneath the seat - it's kind of hard to explain, but basically, the buckle was stuck under the seat. I really wanted to use the seatbelt because Puerto Ricans drive crazy - ... read more

This week started out with a bang. A group of about 4 Puerto Rican students invited us to 'La Playa' to celebrate the day off due to Memorial day. We met up around 10:45 am, hopped in their "carro's" or more commonly called "guaguas" and headed to a supermarket to get some food. They made sure we got some true Puerto Rican snacks, which was a bag of "Munchies" that included fried platanos, a fried potatoe thing (yaca??), and fried pork skin. Then, we headed to the beach; but unfortunately one of the cars broke down on the way. So, we pushed the car into an open parking spot, and then a group of 8 of us shoved ourselves into a 5 person car - 2 people in the trunk, 4 in the back seat and ... read more

Hola todos! This week, has been definitely a challenging one, but also very good and fun. We survived the first week of class, and are finally getting know some students! I actually made friends with two girls (Yailine y Loraine). They don't speak very much English, so it is a good challenge. In fact, they are already planning on a night at the club for my birthday! Ha, at least I think that's what they were saying. They both helped me with my speech that I gave on Friday. I received a 24 out of 25, so I was really pleased with it. One funny story that I think you might enjoy is that I locked myself out of my room, and then set off an emergency alarm in the dorm. I was going to speak ... read more

And the new adventure has finally begun. I started off my travels Monday evening, leaving Bakersfield at 7 pm to catch a red eye flight from Los Angeles to Chicago. I knew it was going to be a long night, and I wasn’t going to get much sleep. As we had just started the first flight, the Chinese guy sitting next to me decided he was going to fall asleep on my shoulder, and as most people know, I have a large personal bubble. He was definitely invading my space and made me uncomfortable for the whole flight. I nudged him away a few times, but he was out and wouldn’t budge. So, I just shifted the seat so he would lean on that, and not me. It didn't work as well as I'd hoped, but ... read more

Hello All! So, it's been a while since I've entered anything into my travel blog, which is so sad! It was a year ago I was just finishing up the best 3 months ever in Europe. Now, I'm on to another adventure in Puerto Rico! This means I get to bring back the good ole' travel blog to share of my stories from living on an island with a bunch of Spanish speaking Puerto Ricans. Not to mention having a Puerto Rican roommate! I found out about a month ago that I had the opportunity to either graduate a semester early, or do a study abroad program, take a few more classes and double major in Business and Spanish. The later option was obvious because who wouldn't want to study abroad again?! My original plan (which ... read more

Cioa Tutti! Well, my little European experience has finally come to an end. I spent it the last few days traveling Southern Italy with my Aunt, Uncle, and their two friends, Charlie and Theresa. We had a lot of fun, did a lot of traveling, a lot of good eating and a lot of soaking up the sun. After my trip back from Bosnia and Croatia, I headed to Hotel Selene where I would meet my Aunt and Uncle later in the day. I enjoyed having some time to myself in the room to fresh up and relax. After I walked around a bit, I went back to the room and laid down on the bed to rest for a few minutes. I guess I ended up falling asleep because the next thing I knew, there ... read more

Well, my school semester ended Wednesday, April 29th after three months in Florence (Firenze) and 8 days in Rome (Roma). The last few days in Rome were good, but I was ready to leave because it was too overwhelming with millions of tourists. Also, the ways to get around and to town were strange because we had to take metro’s (which were fine) but the buses didn’t have schedules. So, it was impossible to really plan a time to get into or leave town. On Sunday, a group of us left at 6:30 in the morning to make our way to the Vatican Museums. They are free every 3rd Sunday of the month, and we lucked out because it was the third Sunday of the month. We headed out super early to beat all the lines, ... read more
