Becky, Kinsey, Courtney

Ciao Bellas

We are a group of girls going backpacking in Europe for four weeks! Though different, we have a lot in common and are excited to share this experience together. Later on in the trip we will be joined by Jesse, Courtney's cousin- stay tuned! Kinsey is ready to expand her horizons as a photographer and become immersed in the culture of the people of Europe. This includes, seeing the sights, meeting the people and tasting the food. The first two weeks will be filled with drugs and gelato for Kinsey, as she just had her wisdom teeth removed, a week before the trip. Becky is excited to experience Europe firsthand, taking a break from work and really learing how to relax. Becky's biggest goal is, not to lose anything, not to fall of of the Eiffel Tower and most importantly, to see the world as others do. Appreciating every aspect of the countries she visits. Courtney is a faithful yoga student, starting every day (maybe) with a yoga session hosted by her iPod, she plans on collecting unique jewelry for souveniers, along with whatever else she can fit into her tiny backpack for the trip back home, as well as confronting her fears through adventuring. We are all going to try to blog faithfully, for all those back home and for the sake of our memories! Ciao, the girls

2 nights and one day left. Its bittersweet. My time here has been interesting to say the least. i have made many new friends from all over the word. 2 girls from Pittsburg who are staying in our room, 3 older folk from Singapore, 1 Czeck lady who works here, and 3 more girls from Canada. The first night we arrived we made chicken stir fry and rice. Courtney made her gluten free pasta and ate her salad out of a bucket, rescourceful. Becky completed the meal with some "homemade" ice cream sandwiches, delicious! Jesse helped with the dishes. After that we headed downstairs and played a game of Mad Gab with a few other people, and our first friends, the girls from Pittsburg, who were actually staying in our room. the next morning we walked ... read more

Prague, i hear its gorgeous, but i havent seen it yet. Albeit, we have only been here long enough to find the showers in our hostel. And, as i do what i do best, wait, i use the internet. It was deffinitly hard to say goodbye to Berlin, this would make the top 3 favorites thus far. I feel i had a much better grasp on the history and even a little more culture than anywhere else. Our second day we went on a guided tour to the concentration camp just outside of Berlin. Compared to our last tour, this was more sobering to see and hear about. This particular camp was used more for the polital leaders, however later on more subgroups were added, like the Jews, homosexuals, gyspies and even later on the Nazi's ... read more

wow, today has sure been interesting! Can i just say last night was the worst night 'sleep' i have ever had. We being blackriders and cheepies bought seats ont he night train, for €10 each instead of €30 for cuchettes. We know now there was a reason it was so cheap, excpet i still think i would make the same decision to save money for 'comfortability'. 4 of us crammed into a 6 seat car. sleep? where? how? not possible. somehow i managed to fall unconious for a couple minutes, and strangely enough my muscles are not paying for it today, but boy am i exhausted after our day! We arrived at our hostel a little too early to check into our room, 32 bed room, and shower. so we sat on the couch for a ... read more

We were sad to leave Amsterdam. It's funny how arriving to a city on a sunny day affects your opinion of it. We really enjoyed it. We managed to stayed out of the "seedy" areas until our last afternoon, when we stopped through to take a few pictures. We took an IC (Inner City) train to Brussels where we waited an hour and got on our "sleeper" train. Thus far, when traveling over night, we have had Couchettes (small, small room with two sets of bunk beds 3 high) or reclinable seats like on an airplane. We were not expecting the Four Seasons for 10 Euros each, but what we had ahead of us was not what any of us had expected. The cabin that we were assigned to, was two parrallel benches. Six seats. No ... read more

I have been thinking about the weather we´ve experienced on this trip. The first actual rain we got caught in was in Rome at the Trevi fountain, and it was gloriously cultural, suddenly empty cobblestone streets lined with shivering Italians and postcard stands pulled out of the walkways, everything topped with dozens of freshly purchased, multi-colored umbrellas bobbing up against each other as if to comment on their inaugural usage with a series of celebratory ciao´s. After that we began to get wet a little bit more. On our second day in Cinque Terre, Pat, Jesse and I went on a hike from Riomaggiore to the third of the five towns, Corniglia. The Australians staying in the room below us woke up early and beat "the hoards" to Via Dell´Amore, where they walked along the coastal ... read more

Replaying the past several days in my head, it is hard to put everything into words. It is hard to beleive how much has happened in just a few short weeks. We started out on this journey, showered and clean and ready for adventure. Three weeks later we are very tired, very dirty and still ready for adventure. A few times we have had to ask ourselves, "What is that smell?". It doesn't take long to realize that it is actually US. On our short layover from New York to London, we stopped into a shop in the airport where I picked up some "Crazy Glue". It would prove to be one of the most important purchases of our entire trip. I was able to glue the sole of my shoe back on at the Eiffel ... read more

Here we are, Amsterdam! First impressions walking of the train station. whoa. The music blarring, sun shining, and towing building were all very impressive and aestheticaly pleasing as we headed for the tram that would take up to our hostel. So far all we have had time to do is shower, oh so needed (its been 2? or 3 days? so long i cant remember!) and get a 'snack' of 'chips and salsa' haha..salsa was gooey and stangely ketchupy in taste, the chips were spinkled with cheese powder...i guess were not in Mexico like i thought when i ordered those.... tomorrow i head to the doctor to get the stitches out. im really hoping he/she will tell me its not infected like im suspecting. Meanwhile the crew will be doing much much muuuuch needed laundry... haha ... read more

So I'll go ahead and pick up where we left off. As I said, we met Pat on our first night in Florence where we were planning on staying two nights because he was the fifth person in our hostel room. As we walked in, Becky began muttering: "Oh no. The worst thing. The worst thing. Oh no." It transpired that her passport had fallen out of her pocket back at the internet point underneath the train station (it was by now ten or eleven pm) and it was nowhere to be found. While she and Kinsey went to look for it (they never found it) Jesse and I stayed and talked to Pat and were told by the hostel people that we had to pay with cash for both nights right away or we couldn't ... read more

Sad Day, tonight is our last night in Italy. I have really come to like it here, however, most of the places i have been, i dont have a strong desire to visit again. Well, let me just update you with my current situation. Back in Cinque Terra i had a little accident at the store. A glass bottle feel off the counter and exploded. A piece of the glass flew up and hit me, just above my eye. After a long ordeal, we decided (with my dads advice) to go to the hospital and get a stitch or two. I dont like hospitals too much, it seems i never have much luck and end up waiting for hours. This time didnt proove to be too much different. I will spare you the long, boring, gruesome ... read more

After spending about 10 minutes trying to figure out how to spell Colleseum (which I am still not sure about), I decided to skip over the little stuff and give you the boiled down version of the last 4 days. As much as I would love to be eloquent like Kinsey, or a natural writer like Courtney, I am not. I'm Becky, I am the clumbsiest person you will ever meet. I not a good speller and I really cant write well. Rome was amazing. Seeing the ruins and the city were awesome. Getting caught in the rain at the Trevi Fountain was the highlight. After visiting an internet cafe in Florence, we got to our hostel to realize that I lost my passport somewhere in the city. Kinsey and I took the scariest cab ride ... read more
