In the famed “Most Breathtaking Country” Contest, judged by the Charters, Norway now has a new fierce competitor: Switzerland. Wow, is Switzerland amazing. We went there for a week partially to celebrate my birthday (which somehow keeps coming faster and faster) and to just have a relaxing getaway. We stayed in a small town, Adelboden, in the Alps. Among the many enjoyable parts of our stay were view of the mountains from our room, really friendly townspeople, being able to get into the mountains for a hike in only a few minutes, Swiss cheese (yum), and Swiss chocolate (double y [View Full Entry]

We had a great time in Dublin! The highlight was an evening of Irish music and Dancing (think Riverdance). The band played really fun music and interacted a lot with the audience. We got to sing "What a fine girl Y'are" during one of the songs, which inspired the title of this blog. The dancers were really amazing, and try as he might, Chris still isn't able to get his high kick as high as the men in the show! We also enjoyed touring around on the hop on hop off bus--the best part was listening to all of the bus [View Full Entry]

“Ahoy”! Yep, it means “hello” and is probably the only Czech word that Chris and I could manage to remember on our trip! We endeavored to ask for the check in Czech, but instead Chris made guttural noises that sounded like “ooo ooo Checka Please” and eventually, the waiters would just ask us in English what we needed. Prague was lovely. I had visited Prague on a school trip when I was 16, so getting to show Chris around (the little that I could remember from that long ago!) was a lot of fun! We went to the Prague Castle, shopped [View Full Entry]

As some of you may recall, Chris and I won a contest to name a fleet of ships about a year ago. Our prize was a trip to a ship naming ceremony. We jumped on the opportunity to go to Croatia for a ceremony (unfortunately not one of the ships we named) and I was asked to be the Godmother of the ship. Godmother duties included giving a short speech, smiling all day for photos, and chopping a small string with an axe that then swung a champagne bottle to hit the bow. I had a really lovely time. Chris and [View Full Entry]

When I was growing up, my best friend's mother was from Holland which meant three things: 1) they had a lot of licorice, 2) there were pairs of wooden shoes in a variety of sizes in the house and 3) when my friend and I were up to mischief her mother blurted Dutch words at us in the midst of chastising us for whatever we'd got up to that day. 1 & 2 were fun and interesting and made me want to know more about this magical place where people wear wooden shoes (why?!) and eat lots of licorice (which is [View Full Entry]

Chris went to Kuwait for 3 days for a work meeting and left poor Mollie to enjoy a bachelorette weekend! Chris says that Kuwait was dusty and sandy, but had an amazing amount of American stores--more than in Denmark. However, to Chris' chagrin there is no alcohol in Kuwait, though the inhalation of sand did make him feel woozy at times! [View Full Entry]

There are many things to like about London. There is the history, the food, the lively nightlife, but most of all I love that everyone speaks English! After having been in Europe for 6 months, it was so nice to understand billboards, menus, random comments from strangers, and to stop nodding at people with a confused look trying to communicate "I think I sort of understand what you are saying, but I probably have no idea". Oh, English, oh London! By far my favorite event in London was having afternoon tea. It was lovely sitting with Chris, enjoying tea and finger [View Full Entry]

Our travels to Italy were over Christmas but due to the busyness of the season, I am just now getting to writing about it. We had a lovely time, spending 5 days in Rome and 4 in Venice. Rome is an amazing, hectic city. There are so many people, cars, and motorbikes that it can feel overwhelming, but amidst all of the sounds and smells there are ancient ruins just everywhere. It is strange to see such incredible historical ruins against the backdrop of modern coffee shops and cars. It was surreal seeing the Colosseum where men and animals fought to [View Full Entry]

Chris and I arrived in Mumbai on Tuesday morning and the attacks began on Wednesday evening. It was a very frightening experience and we feel very fortunate to have been safe in our hotel during the attacks and to have been able to secure a flight out of Mumbai late Thursday night. We are back in Copenhagen relaxing and sleeping. Our hearts go out to the people who were killed and held hostage, as well as their families. [View Full Entry]

Our trip to Hamburg and Berlin Germany was fun and full of history. In Hamburg, Chris did some work stuff, and then we got to do touristy stuff (and go shopping!!). We visited a church that had been burned during WW2, and was left as a reminder of the war. We also went to a crypt that boasts being the final resting place for Bach's son, and we got to do a lot of shopping. (Did I mention that we went shopping?! Prices in Germany are much better than our beloved Copenhagen.) In Berlin, we visited important historical sights such as [View Full Entry]
