This is a "very" belated entry - sorry! - I know some of you have been curious about our little stop-over in Abu Dhabi, so while I have some time I thought I would update you on the last days of our trip. We were glad to be breaking the trip up, the travelling had made us tired and we weren't looking forward to hours & hours on a plane. Our flight left Brussels and the 7 hours to Abu Dhabi felt like forever. We arrived at 7am in the morning, all really cranky with each other and the temperature change came as a bit of a shock. Despite this finding a taxi to take us from the airport to our hotel which was about an hour away was no hassle, but then the fun began. ... read more

Tues 1st Dec - Arrived in the Netherlands at 11.30am (saw a paddock beside the motorway enroute that was part of Germany!). Met Marjolein's mother who had made salad rolls for lunch. Had a chat, exchanged some gifts and then had some homemade cake - YUM!Then her father piled us all in the van and took us sightseeing. Went to a very large American War Cemetery - 8000+ graves. Finished the day off by taking us out to a GREEK restaurant for dinner, then drove us back to our hotel in Brussels, but not before giving us all some more gifts - wonderful friendly people. Weds 2nd Dec - Had a sleep in, then did a bit more shopping! Found a nice cafe and had waffles, strawberries, ice cream & cream for lunch. Sorted out our suitcases ... read more

Apologies for being a little late with the updates. Internet access hasn't been easy, probably should have brought the laptop. Paris was fabulous. DAY 3 - Explored the gardens near the Louvre at Tulieries and then visited Museum D'Orsay & Le Orangerie that display the wonderful artwork of the impressionist era - my favourite! I was in heaven - works by Manet, Degas, Renoir & Van Gogh everywhere. We were able to take photos but could not use the flash. Larissa was the photographer while I stood in awe and admired all the work. She was not impressed by the work of Matisse or Picasso - thought she could do better....he he!! She was very taken with Monet's waterlillies. That evening we enjoyed a meal at the Eiffel Tower, a cruise down the Seine ( the ... read more

I'm sorry if you have been anxiously awaiting news of adventures on this blog but it truly is a matter of so much to see and so little time. We have a little internet cafe across from our apartment but most nights my legs are so tired I haven't had the energy to get there. Larissa has been across a few times and added some photos to her facebook tagging me so you can view some of her photos there. So what have we been up to? Day 1 - we caught the metro into the Eiffel Tower. We took the lift to the second level and although the day was cloudy, the view was amazing and we had to take a moment to "pinch ourselves" - yes, we were in Paris. On our 'sortie' (exit) ... read more

Today we caught the Metro to the Eiffel Tower and ventured to the second floor. We beat the crowd and took lots of photos. Rob brought us all a chocolate crepe to share and we headed to the Arc de Triumphe on foot. Had a nice meal at Cafe Kleber. Walked along the Champs de Elysses and this evening we arrived home around 4.45pm - and it was dark! We walked Chris's legs off and she is now resting back at the apartment. Rob ... read more

Today (11/11 ) seems to be a fitting day to begin blogging our next adventure - it is now 11 sleeps until we leave. No. 1 daughter is very excited and No. 2 is heading that way but until her last VCE exam is over, the holiday is still far from her mind. Remembrance Day always makes me think of my grandfather and this trip is very much about him as we will be touring the WW1 battlefields of France and Belgium where he served. This first entry of our travels is also a bit of a "test-run" to make sure that those of you who subscribed last time still have access to our travelblog page. OK - if you want follow our movements on a map, here is a brief run down of where we ... read more

I am finally able to upload some images to show you. I thought I might group them into themes for easier viewing LOL!! - haven't done a count of how many photos we have taken; but I can tell you, Rob has taken more than me! Some of these photos are amongst my favourites - we found the people of Vietnam very friendly; as we would walk by them in the streets - we would often get a smile, nod and hello and those who were servicing us always called us Sir & Madam. The street scenes of the local people selling their produce is part of the charm of Vietnam and something I hope doesn't disappear as tourism becomes more commericalised in this country.... read more

We have been keeping a fairly busy pace for the past couple of days and haven't found time to blog - sorry if you have been anxiously awaiting the next installment. Anyway here we are filling in sometime before our transfer to the airport so we will do our best to fill in you in on what we have been up to. 25/8/08 - at 8am which felt like the hottest part of the day we took a walk along Cua Dai Beach across the road from our resort to take a few last minute pics there. The locals were already out in full force hawking their wares, baskets of the usual bracelets, postcards, beachballs, fruit etc. They are very persistent and can eye a tourist off as quick as a wink. It was a bit ... read more

Sorry we have skipped a day of blogging - yesterday was a busy day and then there was a Miss Vietnam function at our resort and I couldn't get Rob to follow me to the computer room - he he! However I will try and update you with our movements of the past couple of day ( btw thanks for your comments - this sure beats postcards - hey??! ) Ok, yesterday we headed into the orphanage and the Assistant Director showed us around. Her English was very limited and she kept apologising but we got by. They were very appreciative of the food formula we had brought with us. They currently have 72 children and we won some friends - a little boy with Downs Syndrome who was delighted with the live view on my ... read more
