In September 2009 my fiancée and I decided to go to Africa, it was my first time visiting Africa so I didn’t know what to expect, my fiancée loves animals, me I love to eat them but I’m one for trying new things so thought a safari is just for me. We flew to Nairobi and spent a night there before starting the safari in the Masai Mara, I wondered why we had to spend a night in Nairobi before the safari but after the long flight it was a welcome rest, especially after it took hours to drive through Nairobi due to rush hour. We arrived and checked in early afternoon, after lunch we went straight to sleep waking up after nearly 8 hours sleep in the evening, our body clocks were messed up and ... read more

When I was younger I always dreamed of going to the Maldives and staying in a water villa (A villa on stilts over the water if you didn't know). I knew it wouldn't be cheap, I was just about to start a new job and probably wouldn't be able to get a xmas and new year off for a very long time so whilst I was young and before I have kids and can't afford it (not that I can afford it now) I decided to go. Probably the biggest problem with the Maldives is once you have been you're going to struggle to find anywhere as nice to go for your honeymoon, the only other problem is if you don't dive or like water sports there isn't much to do apart from eat, relax and ... read more

The Nijmegan International Four Day March (also known as Vierdaagse) is the worlds largest marching event. When I got asked if I wanted to go to Nijmegan in Holland for a week with work and I wouldn't actually have to do any work all I would need is spending money I thought what’s the catch "We take part in a four day march to improve relations but we spend eight days out there in total so it's a nice break" I got told, I walk a lot anyway, how hard could it be......VERY HARD! 200km over four days, that’s 50km (around 32 miles) A DAY for four days! In the previous years that people had entered the march there were always a few that dropped out/were pulled out due to injury, nine of us went to ... read more

I know this isn’t exactly a travel blog as such as I’m from London but if everything goes to plan I will not be living in London forever so I’m allowed to write this blog! This is how I proposed to my soon to be wife (we’re getting married 21st Feb 2011), I had already done the gentlemanly thing and asked her father for his daughters hand in marriage (read my Goa blog) and I had already bought the engagement ring (read my New York blog) and Nikki knew I had done both. I told her that I wanted to surprise her when I asked her and so she would have to wait at least 3 months until I asked her but that it would probably be longer as she would be expecting it, with that ... read more

This trip was more than a holiday, I was going to stay at my girlfriend’s dad’s place (he spends the winter months in Goa) and whilst there I was going to do the gentlemanly thing and ask him for his daughters hand in marriage. My plan was to ask him at the start so I can get it out of the way and actually enjoy my holiday.....that was the plan, in reality I asked him towards the end of the trip and had to get blind drunk to do it. As we were staying at my soon to be father in laws place we only had to pay for flights and spending money, he had told me about how cheap everything was but I knew I’d still want to go on some trips so I took ... read more

I got told I had to use up some annual leave at work or lose it, fantastic, time off work the only question where to go, the dollar was weak and I needed to buy my girlfriend an engagement ring and I’ve always wanted to go to New York, so it was a simple choice, we flew out on xmas day, which made it a lot cheaper. When we landed in New York we took a cab to our hotel, when we arrived on the street we started counting up the numbers......oh wait where is our hotel, there was just a big construction site where our hotel was supposed to be, maybe we have the wrong number, nope right number, oh no. It wasn’t as bad as we first thought, yes it was a construction site ... read more

I saw an article in a magazine about ranch holidays, they looked awesome I could just imagine it, just like the movie City Slickers, so I booked a holiday to stay at the Grapevine Canyon Ranch in Arizona, I’d only been on a horse once in my life before so was a little nervous. I didn’t want to stay at the ranch for two weeks as I imagined it would be quite hard work and let’s face it this was a holiday, so I booked to stay the second week in Las Vegas. We flew in to Las Vegas and then had to catch a connecting flight to Tucson, when we landed we had about 6 hours until our flight so decided to check our bags in and go out for lunch in Vegas, it was ... read more

Before my trip to Brazil someone had asked if I had ever seen the film ‘City of God’ I hadn’t but didn’t really think to ask why. This trip was nearly a three week long trip, my longest holiday at the time, I love caipirinhias (a traditional Brazilian cocktail), I love Churrrascarias (a type Brazilian buffet restaurant), I love sightseeing, what could go wrong. This is the story of my trip and how I got to enjoy everything I liked about Brazil plus some unexpected (and unwanted) surprises along the way........the things I do for love! My girlfriend and I had decided to book a trip to Rio de Janeiro for our two year anniversary, luckily that fell at the same time as The Rio Carnival, to say I was excited would be an understatement, we ... read more

My first visit to the southern hemisphere and what an awesome destination to choose, neither of us were aware of the fact that a second bomb had gone off in Bali not long before we arrived and some people from Australia had been caught bringing drugs in to Bali and the punishment for that is the death penalty, as a result of these two incidents tourism was down 70% when we visited. I was a little worried when we stopped off in Kuala Lumpar as it was nonstop torrential rain but after a 12 hour flight it was good to stretch my legs, two servings of curry on the flight made it a lot more enjoyable too. After our two hour leg stretch we boarded our next flight, as we were coming in to land I ... read more

Woohoo a mini holiday to Barcelona, I didn’t think I’d be able to sleep before going to the airport as I had to leave my house at 11:30pm but I managed a couple of hours, considering it was Easter bank holiday weekend it wasn’t that busy at the airport. When we checked into our hotel it was early morning, I was very impressed by the hotel it was very art deco, we didn’t know where to go so got a cab to the Gothic quarter, we had a walk around the cathedral and then down La Rambla. We decided to get a hop on hop off bus ticket, we stayed on the bus and took pictures from the top of most things but got off at Sagrada Familia, it was breath taking and it is still ... read more
