The travels of an Automation and Process Controls Engineer.....
I have worked for Kongsberg Maritime since May 2011 and as part of my work I travel to Norway frequently and have also started undertaking work further afield.
As such I decided a travel blog of where I've been and what I've seen would be a good way to keep track of places I visited and good restuarants, bars, attractions for any future visits or to remember things I still want to see if I get the opportunity to go back to certain places.
I recently had a four week stint working in Dubai. As such this blog is a general overview of Dubai and some of the restaurants and smaller sights from my trip. Let's start with the flight! I flew down from Aberdeen to Birmingham on FlyBe to catch the overnight Emirates flight to Dubai and must admit that Emirates has to be the best flight I have ever been on in terms of service (may be to do with flying business class too...). The staff in the lounge and on-board were very friendly and helpful from the start and the cabin was spacious and comfortable on board. It was, however, a case of dinner then bed for me, a chance to catch some sleep as we were due at work at lunchtime to undertake a saftey training

We took the first flight from Torp (Sandefjord) in Norway to Amsterdam, arriving just after 0800 local time. After finding a locker to leave our hand luggage in for the day we set off for the train station to travel into the centre of the city. The train took approximately 15 minutes and meant that we started on the Damrak, one of the main tourist destinations in Amsterdam. Our first stop was to find breakfast so we stopped in one of the many small cafes lining the street to have an English fry-up....whilst it wasn't the best breakfast in the world by any means the availability of HP sauce

We set off from the hotel in Kongsberg and headed along Route 37 into the mountains, the main road was closed and we ended up diverted onto Route 364 which headed North to the top of Lake Tinnsja and then doubled back on itself before rejoining the 37 to Rjukan. The drive had some of the best scenery we have every driven through (and surprisingly our 1.2 VW Polo made it up the climbs). Rjukan is a quiet town, stretched along the valley floor with the mountains rising steeply over each side. We stopped in the town centre but the

We took the hire car but once arriving in Oslo (and when leaving) we realised it may have been easier to take the train. A lot of the streets are one way and the sat-nav definitely helped to navigate into the city centre, there are quite a lot of multi story car parks in the centre but at an average of 40NOK per hour they are expensive if planning to stay all day. Once in Oslo, we headed to the tourist information office to find out how far away places were. The nearest office we found was at the Central Station. Once there found that the main street in Oslo for tourists is Karl Johans Gate, which runs from the
