5/7/2008 Waking up today for some reason I just felt very powerful. So after all the girls had a hard night out and were still resting and sleeping in. I decided to take a walk and hopefully make my way towards Puerto Madero, where all the lovely ports are(as Buenos Aires locals are famous for being labeled as Los Porteńos). However, as I started walking and getting into things and started taking pictures…I kid you not ..something hysterical happened, as I was trying to line up a shot for one of the building pics, a bird had not only SHITTED on [View Full Entry]

3/7/2008 Today I literally woke up before dawn like 4-5am and got ready to go on my own to discover the famous Casa Rosada(Pink house in Spanish, think Argentina version of White House), Congreso and 5 de Mayo and other parts of the town. I decided to be really adventurous and took a sub down to the “Catedral” and just walk all the way back! As it turns out trying to be superman and not navigating properly with a map made me lose time by walking around in circles. However, it did allow me to discover the city in a different [View Full Entry]

1/07/2008 Today was the first day our official university course had began. We got up and had some breakfast and walked around our place and took the long way down to Junín(which if you walk quickly and the right way was jus 2 blocks from our home)…However, we decided to walk the long way because not only did we have one hour to go before our oral exams was to take place but also we wanted(at least I felt) to get lost in this big colourful city.. Anyways, when we finally made our way to the uni, we paid the money [View Full Entry]

Today we got up and decided to go downtown to the famous Avenida Corrientes(famous for its shopping) and nearby to do some shopping and sightseeing. We first had to find a place to exchange some traveler’s cheque. Which mind you by this stage all I can really say is that unlike anywhere else in the world for some reason (I’m guessing the 2001 recession problem in Argentina had a lot to do with this) in order to exchange any type of money in the bank you need to carry some type of documents and for traveler’s cheque you have to be [View Full Entry]

Today we all woke up pretty early and decided that being Sunday, it was probably a good day to go out and hit the streets of Buenos Aires early……What do we know! As it turns out that on a Sunday most shops are closed and only later on during the day (try like the afternoon) they would open, so instead it wasn’t that bad as we walked through the beautiful Parisian like streets with rich cultural buildings surrounding us, it just felt so cool or as they say in French “chic”. We finally stopped at a Coffee shop called Rubin café [View Full Entry]

Today we decided to go and visit La Recoleta cemetery, where all the prominent and famous Argentinians are laid to rest. Of those, there is Eva “Evita” Peron, who surprisingly and unsurprisingly is the most iconic past figure there, and also one that everyone comes to see and mind you with that also comes with the territory, in terms of the fact that to take a picture of her you have to wait in line! The place in general was beautiful, and after that we just basically walked around the area and near the place and the cool thing about that [View Full Entry]

26/06/2008 We finally arrived in Buenos Aires around midday and to make matters worse for all of us jetlagged people, we had to wait at the airport for at least an hour before we could get a car to where we were staying as the lady(Jewish Argentinian who happens to have a cousin born in Australia and now living in Europe) and is also the owner of the apartment still had some paperworks to sort out with our university representatives. So as a result we booked a car hire at the airport and the funny part of the story is we [View Full Entry]

We left the hotel at 6am New Zealand time in the morning. I myself, must admit, I didn’t really get that much sleep and was so jetlagged and but at the same time really excited that I just felt it would be better to sleep on the long flight to Santiago, Chile.(How wrong I was there!) Anyways, we finally landed in Santiago, Chile in the early hours of the morning….the plane ride for me was a bit too long in terms of the fact that being 185cm in height really doesn’t help when you’re flying economy class!!! We stayed in Santiago [View Full Entry]

Today my journey to Buenos Aires, Argentina had finally began. I spent all of the Tuesday 24th June, just shopping and getting some stuff before my trip. For some reason and I’m guessing it’s probably due to the exams…In fact I KNOW it’s due to the exams! I wasn’t as excited until the night before I actually realized I’m going to Argentina!! So anyways, as I was getting dropped off by my Aunt to the airport as I was already running late(my friend msg’d me telling me they did a last min change in depart time). We decided then, to quickly [View Full Entry]
