Bolivia Salt Flats
Bolivia Salt Flats
A little downward dog.
I am officially changing the name of Boliva to Bait and Switch, because this is what they like to do. Do not believe anything a tour operator or bus company tells you. For example, say you would like a bus with some sort of heating system so you do not freeze in minus 17C weather, and you are willing to pay an extra 50% for this privilage. Well, that is just a gullable tourist tax. Buses dont have heaters, even if we say they do. Say for example, you would like to know what is being served for breakfast on your [View Full Entry]

Oasis and Inkas

South America » Peru » Ica » Ica
Goodbye Andes, hello desert. We were pumped to go sandboarding in the dunes so we headed to Southern Peru, to Ica. Anyone ever been sandboarding? It is the lamest thing ever. We rented snow board boots, real snowboards (Option brand made in Vancouver) and took a dunebuggy up to these dunes about 100 meters above the Oasis town. I strapped on my board at the peak, did a quick 90 degree jump to land pointing straight down the slope, and when I landed I stopped dead in my tracks...on a 40 degree slope? The only way you could get the board [View Full Entry]

Chicama Desert
Chicama Desert
Peruvian desert behind the longest wave in the world.
Chad: So we spent 3 months surfing all of Ecuador and Northern Peru. We have ended the surfing portion of the program a week ago in Chicama, Peru, the longest wave in the world (2 km long rides) and water too cold for Janes liking. We sold our surfboards to lighten the load and headed inland to do some trekking in the Andes mountains. We are now in Huarez, a cool rock climbing town situated at 3100 meters. We just did a 60 km, 4 day trek up to 4750 meters (about 15,000 feet). Without doubt this is the nicest mountain [View Full Entry]

I will still be adding 5 to 10 photos to this blog (per blog) but it is arduous...so for way more photos you will have to invite me as a friend on Facebook. It is way faster to upload photos to Facebook. This is my cheap way of looking like I have friends. So for those super close friends of mine, my last name is spelled Comeault. Cheers, Chad [View Full Entry]

Jane on the deck of our hostel, with her empty beers.
Here is a quick update (our once a month blog). Note; these pictures are all of one town in Northern Ecuador, not Peru. I really regret not bringing a laptop to deal with our hundreds of pictures. Pics of southern Ecuador and Peru next time I blog. We spent 2 months in Ecuador, a very long time to spend in the smallest country in South America and we did not see a single volcano, the Amazon or any wildlife. Nothing but surfing the coastline (which was awesome). We really should have gone inland for some culture though; oops. Now we have [View Full Entry]

Chad here. So this is our first blog entry. We have to take a bus 2 hours one way to get to an internet connection so its not so easy. I will make this quick as I know I only look at the pictures most of the time. Arrived in Quito, Ecuador a month ago. The city is at 10,000 feet so you wake up with a headache in the morning and moving around quickly is impossible until you aclimatize. Great city with killer views (see attached picture). We headed straight for the coast to Canoa and spent 2 weeks there. [View Full Entry]
