For some reason the site doesn't want to take our pictures, so I went ahead and uploaded them to our (dwindling) photobucket site. We don't have much on there, except for the Grindewald pictures until the site is working again. Here's the link: http://s31.photobucket.com/albums/c363/KHervey/ (Hopefully it works...) Hiking Europe » Switzerland » South-West » Grindelwald
So after soaking sweat through our clothes, drinking all our water, and then reaching only the half-way point for our hike, a few hours later, we called it a day. What was posted on a local sign as an hour hike to a glacier, turned into a 3 hour hike, through what seemed like a Swiss wilderness!:) (What we understood on the sign was hike, what they meant was twenty minute drive to the parking lot, and 40 minute hike to the glacier. It took us the whole hour and a half to get to the parking lot!) We both decided [View Full Entry]

Well, it looks like all of our blogs before this morning's post were lost in a server crash or something like that. Bummer. Its OK though because we know that everyone reads them all the day we post them so none of you missed any. We are in Grindewald now and have settled into our hotel for a two night stay. We are looking forward to exploring in and around Grindewald. The weather is beautiful (about 80 degrees) and clear. There is still snow on the mountain peaks and we are nestled right in the middle of all of them. We've [View Full Entry]

You may have noticed but the blog has been down recently and we just got access this morning. It is 7:43 am in Zurich and we have a few minutes before hitting the road towards Grindewald and Lauterbrunnen so here is a quick play by play of what we've been up to the last few days. Wednesday - We visited Worms where Martin Luther was called on to recant his views that started the Protestant Reformation. We saw the Holy Trinity Reformation Memorial Church which was very modern but a neat little place. We headed on to Rothenburg which is a [View Full Entry]

We leave tommorrow and will be gone until August 11th. We have rented a car but have not made any reservations at any hotels. This will allow us to be a little more open ended but I have put up a skeleton of a map to show our general route. This will give us the freedom to stop and go wherever we please and stay as long as we would like. We'll call it, "an adventure." We'll keep you posted as we get internet access. [View Full Entry]

Today was a great day, full of rest. We woke up at 11 a.m., and were able to do a little resting, reading and even yard work with Grandma. It rained, and was a perfect day to just lay inside and read. Grandma fed us well, which is always nice upon returning from rigorous travel, to have a homecooked meal. Wednesday, we leave for our southern Germany trip. Because of the unexpected effect of the pound ($$$$)on our British Isles trip, and different licensing rules for driving among the Czech Republic and Austria, we are "changing" our destinations a little. Our [View Full Entry]

We are in an internet cafe and I have 18 minutes left on my counter so I will make this as brief as possible. Kat is typing next to me so hopefully we don't have too much overlap. I imagine she is giving you the roundabout update on where we've been so I'll give you a few nuances: 1) Driving on the wrong side of the road doesn't feel so wrong after doing it for 11 days. Still doesn't make me want to drive in London, which is basically New York filled with people with harder-to-understand accents. 2) We visited G.K. [View Full Entry]

Scotland is breathtaking. The rural landscapes are unbeatable, the bridges and rivers are pretty, and the cities are outstanding. From the moment that our city bus pulled up through Edinburgh, both of us determined that this city was by far, our favorite. We hadn't even stepped off the bus yet. The city skyline consists of numerous amazing gothic-looking spires, castles up on top of hills (huge green hills and cliffs in the middle of buildings in the middle of the city!), and you can't just walk through the city without sighing out loud or gasping at the next amazing church/building/square [View Full Entry]

So after sitting in Dublin's airport for almost six hours of delays due to poor weather, we finally flew out to Luton. By the time we arrived in Luton, and rented a car (that didn't have issues:first one did and had to return it and restart all over again...), it was "half eight" (8:30, gotta love how the British speak!!!!) and we were on our way to York! Let's see, last we left off was in Waterford on Monday... It is 1:40 am here in York and Katherine was falling asleep typing so I will finish her post...to start, here [View Full Entry]

Being that today was Chet's first day driving on the "wrong" side of the road, he did so well! I will let him recollect today's journey when he gets online tomorrow. He is fast asleep, because today was such a big day. I wanted to post pics from the trip Grandma took us on, on Sunday after church. We drove up the Rhein and saw various castles and got to see one of the most famous sights, the Lorely (a large cliff named after a legend). Legend was, that men steering ships would look away from their course, to see [View Full Entry]
