Spent 2 weeks in Turunc, Turkey, hanging in the sun, taking in the sights and enjoying the culture. We visited Efes (home of the Temple of Artemis), Pamukkale (calcium deposit mountain) and a beach where sea turtles lay their eggs. Awesome time! [View Full Entry]

Spent the first 2 weeks of August on vacation in Croatia. We drove down in Dan's 1987 WV Golf (no air conditioning!) and then cruised around Croatia, stopping in Cirk-Venica, Biograd, Split, Zadar, Makarska and Plitvice. Awesome time! [View Full Entry]

Spent a long weekend at the Baltic Sea, known as the Polish Sea to Poles. Visisted Gdynia, Gdansk, Sopot and Hel. Terrible weather (chilly and rainy), but still had a lot of fun. [View Full Entry]

Happy Birthday to Me!
Happy Birthday to Me!
I am 24 and have a mouth full of cake.
Decided I'd go ahead and turn 24 this year. I had a wonderful birthday week with lots of emails from friends and family, special outings with friends here in Poland and a great birthday party at a local pub, Salvador, on Saturday. A birthday to remember. (And no, I didn't follow the Polish tradition of buying everyone else drinks on MY birthday. I supplied the cake and awesome dance moves, which was worth more than any amount of booze.) [View Full Entry]

After hanging in Kostrzyn, I came home to Wroclaw for a few days before taking the train to Krakow. Narina and Marshall hopped on the train as it passed through Gliwice and the three of us headed to the former Polish capital. Krakow was painfully cold for the 3 days we were there, but we still managed to see the sights and have some fun. Sadly, my camera battery died so I didn't take as many pictures as I hoped. Narina and I decided to get our first Polish haircuts in Krakow. After finding a proper frzjer (salon), the hair was [View Full Entry]

Merry Christmas from Poland! On Wednesday, Dec. 24th, I took the train from Wroclaw to Kostrzyn Nad Odra to meet Rick and Jakub, 2 of Bri's college friends. Jakub is Polish (went to high school and college in the US, now works in DC) and his family still lives in Poland. Jakub's family was very welcoming and I enjoyed my few days in their home. The train was quite full on the journey to Kostrzyn - I had to stand next to the door (cold!) for the first half of the 5 hour trip - but I got a seat after [View Full Entry]

Tis the season for some parties and snowy getaways. I attended my first Polish birthday party early in the month. Michal (Mee-how) turned 23 and hosted a great party. For a Polish birthday, the bday boy/girl is responsible for paying for everyone else's drinks at a bar. They also supply snacks and are to ensure all guests have a lovely time. So I announced that I would NOT be hosting a Polish birthday party. No way am I buying drinks for everyone else on my birthday. Poor Michal was stressed making sure everyone was having fun on HIS birthday. The Speed [View Full Entry]
