Vegas!!! It didn't seem like we were really there. I mean you see it in movies but it never seems like it's real I guess. Anyway, we stayed in Fitzgerald's which is downtown next to the Fremont Street Experience. It's cheaper than the other hotels, though it's kinda dingy in some ways. The pool and hot tub were allright and they had laundry so I was happy. We were on a higher floor and the tub was huge. So anyway, the Fremont Street Experience was cool. They have a lightshow, shops, and other casinos and things. They have a movie theater [View Full Entry]

Well Johan and I drove from Tulsa to the Grand Canyon. We're staying at the Circle Pines KOA which is really nice. I definitely recommend camping here if you don't stay near the Park itself. They have an indoor pool and hot tub, bathrooms, showers, a restaurant, and it's clean. Anyway, we went to the IMAX movie and saw that. He bought a DVD copy since it was really cool. We went on a famous mule ride down into the canyon to Indian Gardens and Plateau Point and back up. I had never ridden a mule before, though I had been [View Full Entry]

Mules

Okay so I visited southern West Virginia, Princeton to be exact. The West Virginia District of Circle K International was having their District Convention. It was interesting. The weather up was beautiful and it was only a 4 hour drive, interstate all the way. The stay at the Sleep Inn and Suites was wonderful. They had a heated pool and hot tub. If you're planning on going to Winterplace, the ski resort, stay here. It's cheaper. They have continental breakfast. So, I enjoyed it and I was able to see friends. It snowed the rest of the weekend. It was interesting [View Full Entry]

Well, it is time for Ya'll Convention and this year it is being held in Jekyll Island, Georgia, which is a state park. The island is home to historical architecture and a lovely beach on the Atlantic Ocean. The hotel has an outdoor pool that is not heated. The weather is beautiful, except it is too cold to get in the water. I would definitely like to visit here again, though a warning: you have to pay for parking on the island. [View Full Entry]

Cattails
Island

Okay so last Saturday, I woke up and looked around. I managed to get up. Johan and I ate breakfast, though mine was just a banana. Then, Robin and Mia met us and we all got in the car. We all left for the airport, complete with Fuzzy my stuffed teddy bear, my suitcases, and my backpack. We got to the airport, then they went through baggage with me and through to the gate. I hugged everyone goodbye. I almost cried, but I managed to control myself somehow. On the plane from Lulea to Stockholm, I had breakfast. Yay for Swedish [View Full Entry]

Okay so..this is a big deal, although it is more important in some countries than others. In Sweden, it starts with Melodifestivalen, their country's round of it. Melodifestivalen's first rounds are held in cities around the country, like Goteborg, Stockholm, Linkoping, etc. So then the groups that win each of those, compete in the final. The person that wins that gets to go to Eurovision. This year, Sweden's winner was Carola. She went onto the semifinals of Eurovision and secured a spot in the finals, though it was the 22nd spot-a little low on the totem pole. Well, the finals of [View Full Entry]

Okay so this just happened but: I woke up early this morning. I go into the kitchen and do toast for breakfast. Johan comes in, has breakfast, we watch TV. He left to go to school. Well, I'm sitting there watching TV since Tim McGraw and Faith Hill were on Oprah. Then, the aiphone rings. (For those that don't know, the aiphone is a phone in our common room. Downstairs, you can ring a bell in each person's room when you come to visit or do the aiphone on each floor.) I didn't answer it. Instead, I walk down to the [View Full Entry]

Pictures will come later, I promise. Anyway, this morning, I woke up at 1 in the afternoon. I shuffled into the kitchen for breakfast, only to meet Johan and Ingvar eating breakfast. So, they watched some TV, while I opened the refrigerator to find that my milk was GONE! I may not have mentioned it before, but we've had food, plates, glasses, and silverware go missing. So I was like, "I know I had some milk." Johan says, "Read the note." And there, on the door, is a note from Hector. I know that some of my Spanish mates took some [View Full Entry]

Happy Easter Europe » Sweden » Norrbotten » Luleå
Yes, it's Easter Sunday. And let me tell you, it was an interesting Easter for me. Probably the first one that I didn't go to church. I thought about attending the services here, but I would not have understood a word. Anyhow, so yesterday Mia came and got me and we went to her house. It's the cutest. It's a duplex. You walk in the door and there's an entryway. There's the laundry room and the bathroom on the left. On the right is the kitchen. So you keep walking and the left is the dining room, on the right is [View Full Entry]

Time to talk about my volunteering, since it is a rather big part of what I end up doing here most of the time. Okay so-across the street from where I live is the school. It's a middle school, which means it comes before Gymnasium, which is Swedish High School. I basically go into the English classes and help kids, speak with them, have discussions with them, and let them hear what a native speaker sounds like. The teachers are nice and the Headmistress there is too. Her name is Berit. There's also a male Headmaster and they are the school's [View Full Entry]
