The weather is really weird in Vancouver. Two weeks ago it was raining every day. Last week it was foggy. (Refer to my previous posts.) Today, it snows!!! After my German class in Downtown, I took a bus back to UBC. When I alighted from the bus, I saw a powder-like substance falling from the sky. At first, I thought it was rain. But upon closer inspection, that stuff didn't behave like rain, because it was falling down slowly and gently, unlike raindrops, which falls quickly in straight lines... I quickly went home and surfed the website for Vancouver's weather. To [View Full Entry]

Last night, I was so excited when I see snow... (Refer to my previous post "Snow in Vancouver") Today, when I woke up in the morning and looked out of the window, I was stunned. The whole place was covered in thick white snow! The streets, the cars in the parking lots, the trees, the houses, etc were all covered in snow!!! When I walked out from my residence, the whole ground was covered with snow and people were walking carefully on the snow. The snow was wet, so when people stepped on top of the snow, the snow was compressed [View Full Entry]

Last week, I decided to make a trip to USA during the weekends because my visa waiver record was expiring soon and I needed to return it to the Canadian Immigration. Since I would be spending more than 2 hours to travel all the way to the border, it would be a waste if I just went there to return the visa waiver record and did nothing else. Hence, I decided to visit Lynden, a small town north of Bellingham. (I could settle my visa waiver stuffs on my way back to Vancouver after the trip.) I wanted to visit Lynden [View Full Entry]

Last week's fog is really an eye-opener for me... I have never seen such a thick fog in my whole life. For several days, the fog lingered around and everybody was feeling moody and depressed. Then, on last thursday, the fog disappeared and finally we managed to see rays of sunlight. However, on friday, the whole place was covered by fog again. To make things worse, it was raining at the same time! (Fog + rain + cold wind was a terrible combination.) Finally, on Saturday morning, the fog and rain disappeared, leaving behind a clear blue sky. To everyone's relief, [View Full Entry]

Last weekend a friend and I wanted to climb up Grouse Mountain and check whether there were any snow on the mountain. (I never see snow in my entire life, because for all my life I lived in Hong Kong and Singapore, where the probability of snowing is zero.) However, when we woke up in the morning, Vancouver was covered in a blanket of thick fog. From my window, I could hardly see a thing more than 50 metres away. In the end, we didn't go to Grouse Mountain. Instead, we stayed at home for the whole day to surf the [View Full Entry]

After talking about Everett, Tacoma, Olympia and Portland (refer to my previous 3 posts), now I'm going to talk about Seattle! Seattle is a bustling city full of vibrancy and energy. It's also the home of several important corporations, such as Microsoft, Boeing, Amazon.com, and Starbucks (Ok, Boeing is not exactly in Seattle. It's in Everett, a small city about 50km north of Seattle.) Although I spent a very short time in Seattle, I had a wonderful time. On the first night of my trip, I visited the Seattle Central Library and several bookstores (refer to my first blog). On the [View Full Entry]

After visiting Everett on the first day of my trip, and visiting Tacoma and Olympia on the second day (refer to my previous 2 posts), I went to visit Portland, Oregon on the third day. Portland is a really beautiful city with a lot of greenery and interesting attractions. To reach Portland, I took a Greyhound bus from Seattle, and the trip took 4 and a half hours! The bus departed Seattle at about 6:45am and reached Portland at about 11:15am. Once I reached Portland, I immediately went to explore the city. I saw the majestic Union Station, the beautiful Classical [View Full Entry]

I visited USA for 5 days from Nov 8 to Nov 12. On the first day, I spent one whole day travelling from Vancouver to Seattle, stopping at the Boeing factory in Everett along the way (Refer to the previous entry "Travelling from Vancouver, BC to Seattle for just USD$4!"). Now, I'm going to talk about the second day of my trip. On the 2nd day, I visited Tacoma and Olympia. Tacoma is a city located about 50km south of Seattle. Founded as a sawmill town in the 1860s, it became one of the most important city at the end of [View Full Entry]

There are many ways to travel between Vancouver, BC and Seattle. Some people take Greyhound, some people take Amtrak, and some people drive. However, a trip by Greyhound, Amtrak, or car easily costs more than USD$20 one way. I'm a stingy person and wanted to save as much money as possible, so I looked for a way to travel from Vancouver to Seattle as cheaply as possible. In the end I managed to do so for just $4! (In addition, I made a stopover in the Boeing factory in Everett, Washington.) I just wanna tell you that I didn't walk all [View Full Entry]
