Hi all, been an interesting few weeks in Banff, the snow stopped and it got warm so our lovely winter wonderland turned into a brown, sludgy, muddy mess. It seemed that no snow was in sight, so we took Priscilla out to stretch her legs and drove 8 hours to Big White to stay with a girl we know from back home, Catherine. We left after everyone left work, 6pm and arrived in the early hours of the night. In Banff there was no snow left on the side of the roads but the snow in Big White was piled up over our heads by the side of the road. Catherine's house was in the village which is half way up the hill on the ski out, so when we woke up to a clear blue ... read more
Hi all, life has finally quitened down here after a flurry of visitors and activities over christmas and new year. We have been enjoying slightly warmer weather which is nice, only getting down to about -10. We celebrated Christmas the best we could, Danni, Brigid, Dan and Clinchy were all here to make it feel like a family event which was nice. The day started in true christmas fashion with pancakes and icecream for breakfast, while we patiently waited for poor Bec to get home from work to open our presents. I scored some great presents and we tried to celebrate Aussie style with some snow cricket, played with a plank of wood and tennis ball. It only lasted a couple of innings due to frozen toes. We continued the activities inside with table top hockey, ... read more
Hi all, not gonna bore you with a lot of talk, life is pretty good here, just working and going snowboarding on our days off and a little trivia and bingo on the side. Just thought I would send you some pictures to show you that we are all fine and having a good time. Starting to not look like a beginner on the slopes, dont stack everyday anymore. Love to everybody, talk soon x... read more
hi all. We are settling into Banff and looking forward to the next few months, learning how to snowboard, snowmen, snowball fights, eggnog, etc. Last week it was 32 degrees but today it is 6 and we are surrounded by clouds and 'flurry' snow that melts before it hits the ground, and the mountains are all snowy and needless to say it is very cold and it is only going to get colder. Beck and Pip are here with us now which is really nice, we are currently all sharing a room at the hostel, which has been fun, like having a slumber party everynight. Pip is making pizzas at night which is going to leave him plenty of time to 'shred the pow*' during the day. (*we are all taking a snowboarding slang for dummies ... read more
greeetings from banff! We arrived here nearly two weeks ago on a monday at around 930pm after a 12 hour bus ride through the rockies, which was so amazing. Goudly met us at the bus and we ventured to the hostel and then stright to the bar downstairs. Missy and Gouldy had been here nearly 6 weeks already, so we got instantly introduced to a whole crew a people who work in town, mostly Aussies. The next morning we hiked up Tunnel mountain, the smallest of the mountains in town, but had the most amazing view of banff and the national park. There are lots of building restrictions in place here so the town won't get any bigger, which is great cos it is so beautiful, I can't wait til it snows. We had a BBQ ... read more
Hi all, sorry it has been so long since our last blog, for those who don't know we had to relocate from our crazy landlords house and now we are with Yanika and Phil and their baby Melodie a couple of blocks from where we were. It has been much more fun since being here because Yanika takes pride in showing us around to the sights. It has been the hottest month ever in BC, eerily like Melbourne last summer, there have been bushfires and all the records have been broken. We have been swimming a lot, Yanika took us to Bridal Falls, a nearby waterfall with icy water from the top of the mountains, to a lake up in the hills where we had a picnic and went canoeing and to a super cool big ... read more
hello family and friends, We are a little bit boring at the moment, we are trying not spend our cash cos we are not earning very much, but apparently it will go mental here next week and we will hopefully be millionaires shortly and can stop living off 39 cent two minute noodles. We are really getting into the spirit of living in the country in Canada, everywhere is trucks, tractors and country music. When people hear we are from Australia, the first person they say is Keith Urban, they are shocked when we explain the Keith Urban is a bit of a joke back home and is really just Nicole Kidman's hand bag. We purchased some bikes (see blue steel and lil red corvett pictured) We have been riding around, to the next town for ... read more
Hello all, We hope everyone is well. We had a few days off work so went into Vancouver for some sightseeing and nightlife. The weather was perfect, mid to high 20's, no clouds and cooler nights. We arrived late on wednesday, cos we had both been working bad hours, I was working for 5 in the morning and vince had been working til 3 in the morning, so we got in, checked into a hostel in the middle of town and went out for dinner and sightseeing. Vanocuver is really easy to get around, you can pretty much walk anywhere but if you get tired there are buses on every corner, a skytrain and ferries, a bit like sydney, but not a crowded and a bit smaller. Vancouver is prety much surrounded by water and is ... read more
Hello all, I decided this would be the easiest way to show and tell our trip, so get on board and you will be emailed when we write a new entry. We went to Chilliwack yesterday and got a card reader for the camera so now we can post pictures, we also got new sim cards but I haven't got around to activating mine yet so stay tuned. Today like almost every other day has been rainy and cool, but today it must have been that tiny bit colder because there was fresh snow on the tops of all the mountains, just the top halves - it looked like they had been dipped in dandruff... thats not very poetic, lets say talcum powder. (no picture of this - sorry) I did take some pictures on the ... read more
