We spent four days and three nights freezing our asses off at high altitude but the scenery & experience was worth it: like nothing on earth. If they did fake the moon landings they probably did it in south west Bolivia, the landscape was a mixture of the moon and mars! We can hardly believe the things we got to see on the trip: blood red lagoons full of sleeping flamingoes, electric green lagoons, desert hot springs, volcanoes steaming, boiling geysers at 5000m. And that was just the first day! We also squeezed in some llamas, flamingoes and even an emu (ran too fast to get a photo though). There were vast stones that looked like trees and a desert that looked like a Dali painting. I presumed the desert would be hot but even during ... read more

After finally tearing ourselves away from Buenos Aires we got back on the road again, managing to cram all our belongings into two bags each (not bad considering the number of football shirts Ryan bought!). First stop was Iguazu Falls, on the border with Brazil and Paraguay, which was absolutely beautiful: stunning waterfalls coming out of the jungle, pretty much what we imagined when we wanted to come here travelling. We took a day trip into Brazil to see the falls from the brazilian side, and stopped off in Paraguay at the dodgiest cheap electronics town ever, Ciudad del Este. We then spent 24 hours on a bus travelling across the north of Argentina to Salta. Salta has some lovely architecture, and some pretty nice scenery too. The campsite we stayed in had the biggest swimming ... read more

¡Hola amigos y compañeros! Hope all is bueno back in the homeland, life is good and keeping you well. It´s been a wee while since our last blog entry, but in fairness we haven´t been doing a whole lot of travelling - having adopted the brilliant city of Buenos Aires as our home for the past 6 months. In that time we´ve met fantastic friends; 'worked´ 30 odd hours a week as english teachers; received an education from our students; become hopelessly immersed in some great Argentine passions - el fútbol, brilliant beef, great red wine, Quilmes beer, protesting like there´s no tomorrow; and have slowly gone a wee bit native - no bad thing. Cat became a wee bit too good at crafting the definitive Argie snack - the empanada (soon to be reaching a ... read more

Hey Everyone! Sorry it's been a while since our last entry, but we've been pretty busy. The four week TEFL course we took was quite hectic and of course we had to fit in some partying with our classmates as well! We had to fit in a trip to HolyLand (Tierra Santa) which is a theme park dedicated to the life of Jesus, and as with everything over here quite overdone and tacky. We have also of course been football tourists: we went round the Bombonera stadium (for those of you who don't know that's the home of Boca Juniors, Diego Maradona's team); and I even went to a game! It was a lot more fun than watching football at home though everyone was dancing and drumming (after the home team had scored of course!) and ... read more

Hiya all and a belated happy new year 2008! Back in Buenos Aires now and looking for an apartment this week, need a place with air conditioning as the summer is kicking in - was 41 degrees yesterday! That is not a healthy heat for the irish constitution! Starting our TEFL course on Monday so the freewheeling pauses for a little while. We jumped on a plane to a place called El Calafate in Patagonia back on 17/12/07 to go for a wee adventure down in the south of south america, and try to get to the very bottom for christmas day. Here´s some of the photos along the way...... read more

Touring round the city a bit more chicos y chicas! There is a reason behind the pictures of us dancing, dressing up and eating in the street. On saturday we took part in a competition called ´The Amazing Race´. Which involved getting to various parts of the city using the scary bus system, and the subway completing different challenges on the way and taking photos with various tourist sites to prove we were there. Hence Maradona, the tango hat and the argentinian flags! We di manage to get a bit lost trying to get to La Boca, the first area we had to visit. But everyone we stopped was happy to give us directions and help us answer all the questions we had to complete, although we did get some strange looks! Despite getting lost and ... read more

Hello all from down south in Buenos Aires, this is the first post in the blog so it might not go very well but hang in there it´ll probably get more readable! We arrived in Argentina on Monday night after a head-wrecking 24 hrs travelling - the flight over from Madrid was class; could see the rainforests from however many thousand feet up we were, and the odd fire burning away below. Managed to leave one of our bags in the taxi that left to the hostel, but the driver drove back maybe 15km to return it!! Brilliant first impressions of Argie hospitality! Were in a mucho-trendy bar in San Telmo district within 2 hours of landing enjoying the first pint on South American soil and chatting to the odd local (e.g. "You´re Irish eh? You ... read more
