¿¿¿Qué qué qué??? Wow, so much to tell. Best place to start is the beginning right? Well, I have to say I have two very comfortable hours in which to write, because the nice man at San Jose airport in costa rica gave me a window seat, alone, with double leg room. Really pays to be tall here sometimes! Ok, so you probably really want to know what´s going on. Last week - on wednesday 1st Nov - my good friend Dennis (rasta) came over for lunch to my house in Santa Teresa. Rasta is a tico and the best friend [View Full Entry]

So here's the dealio right now. Ali and Jo have left Santa Teresa and will go to Ecuador this friday, starting work at the wildlife sanctuary there on monday. Now, GUESS WHAT? I've decided to stay in costa rica for another month!!!! I've found a house I can live in for FREE and share with my mexican friend, Sheila, and an american guy. Right on the beach, hot water, tv, beautiful wooden and tiled. WOW WOW WOW I said. PLUS, I'll be saving SO much money cutting a month off the volunteer work I'm doing in Ecuador which is gonna cost [View Full Entry]

Hi all, Well I dragged myself down to the internet cafe to let you know that we're spending a great few days (about 5) on the Caribbean coast! I'm telling you it was hard since I was in a hammock in the sun with the cool breeze blowing through the palm trees as I looked out towards the blue blue ocean and waves breaking over the coral reef... So yes, we are literally hanging out here at an awesome hammock hotel - rockin j's. Right on the beach, this place is massive with everything you need, including cafe and bar. It [View Full Entry]

Hello all, Been out of contact for a couple of weeks ´cos I was working at our second animal rescue centre - Centro De Rescate Las Pumas. We arrived there two weeks ago after leaving Tamarindo, and met up with our friend Jo who had been working there two months. Well, the people were lovely and we did have some great animal experiences. Spending time with Jaguars and Pumas was unforgettable, it was just a shame that the first ones we´d ever seen in the flesh were those with the common ´rescued from private ownership and kept in the same enclosure [View Full Entry]

Yes I'm almost ashamed to say we're in Tamarindo - without a doubt the most american like, touristy, big real estate business town in Costa Rica. But we do have to see all we can see Our trip here from Santa Teresa was interesting enough. Seriously, Ali and I (as I think I've said before) have been so lucky travelling around here. Always getting just the right bus, perfect timing, meeting great people who go out of their way to help us. And this trip was no different (thank goodness 'cos it took 11 hours). We arrived at our Coral Reef [View Full Entry]

Hey all, Sorry been out of touch for a while. Internet is expensive and slow here, and i guess you were getting sick of sunset photos at Santa Teresa. So on to a different place - Montezuma! Ali and tripped there for a day from Santa Teresa last week just for something different, and we had heard the waterfalls there were incredible. Montezuma is a funky little town only about 1.5hrs from Santa Teresa so we hitched a ride with a good kiwi friend most of the way (on the back of his flatbed truck getting mouthfuls of dirt) then were [View Full Entry]

It was independance day in Costa Rica today. And a very peaceful independance it was too. Flag displays and school children marching down the street at night with lanterns and playing drums. Independance was peacefully declared for Central America by Guatemala (i think it was), and Costa Rica has not had an army for the last 50 years, so the country has an incredibly peaceful feeling (There is even a university of peace!). Just imagine how much money they save on military which they are able to put into education and health etc. No wonder ticos are well educated with good [View Full Entry]

Hi all, I'm back in Santa Teresa (again!, what can I say? we love this place!) which means I can blog to my hearts content. So here goes.. A photo update of Profelis, the centre Ali and I have just left after working and doing research there for the last month. We had very rewarding experiences at Profelis, enjoying the company of wonderful, like-minded, people who were willing to share all manner of information. It is a real shame they are closing down this particular centre, a result of difficulties with the owner private land on which the centre is based. [View Full Entry]

Ok guys, I know a few of you have been waiting for a few of these photos so here goes... We're staying at an amazing hostel called 'Brunela' (which is the spanish, feminine version of the name Bruce, and also the name of the leading lady in a novel written by the owner - go figure..). Since we're here for a few weeks Juan (the owner) is only charging us $4 a night, for which we get the BEST coffee in the world free every morning, a cosy room which we share with one other guy, Todd - American, (we get [View Full Entry]
