This will probably be my last entry for the blog (is anyone even checking this anymore?!) and I'm writing from my new office! Classes have officially started. I've met my professors. I've started reading. I've learned my vocabulary is insanely small and I combine words to make up new ones (which the one time came out as a real word with a waaaay different meaning than the made up word I was trying to say). My other best friend, Shaun, is back in town so I'm happy about that (not that I'll see him a whole lot, but it's gotta be more than twice a year, right?!). I've questioned about 100 times if this is really what I want to be doing, and keep telling myself I'm here for a reason, but I'm in all honesty ... read more

Right before this last trip I got a call from my visa card people that there was suspicious activity. Indeed there was. Someone got a hold of some account of mine and ordered a bunch of stuff. So I canceled the card and they would send me a new one. However- when I got back back from this trip, the stuff that was ordered was mailed to my house! ACK! Someone hacked into something and just ordered a bunch of stuff. I'm not sure why either. They are just making me have to return everything (which is a pain) and they don't actually get anything... probably some punk teenager in Wyoming who is bored on summer vacation. Bummer. Anyway- my trip. This one was to move Aaron and Stefani to Big Pine Key for a year. ... read more

Just got back from summer trip #3. I'm actually looking forward to my trips being over- I leave for the Keys in about 5 days and I miss my bed, cats, and nephews. I also miss days that don't consist of sitting in a car for the majority of daylight. Not to say I'm not having fun- I am! Pittsburgh was fun- I was born in that city and lived there for a few years. I have family there so I visit from time to time. This time, however, we went to some restaurant Primanti brothers, which is apparently a Pittsburgh classic. It's essentially a philly cheese steak with coleslaw and french fries shoved on top- it was delicious! We walked around the city some and got to spend time with my cousin and her new ... read more

I had family come in town for the fourth weekend and it's been busy! Saturday morning was Parker's birthday party, then we went to get fireworks, the boys went to the cabin to shoot guns, and the girls went to Knoxville to just be. We went to Market Square and then checked out all the fun art sculptures in that park before we went to see a movie. Sunday was church, lunch, and then a grill out and fireworks. Today I drove around with Uncle Dwight (who Parker has started calling Uncle Doody- love it!). We went to the mountains in his BMW Z and had a late lunch together and spent some good quality time together. Tomorrow I leave for Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, DC, Ocean City, and then Charlottesville. I'll come home for about 4 days ... read more

Mom and I got to the Bahamas Tuesday afternoon. We got settled in and hit the beach. The Breezes resort has entertainment every night, so we made sure to catch that every day after being in the sun. We did lots of other stuff in addition to sitting on the beach every day. Wednesday we climbed the rock wall and went kayaking. Thursday we swam with the dolphins and seal lions. I absolutely love sea lions- they are insanely funny and cuddly! Friday we went sailing, in to town, and swung on the trapeze. Saturday we went snorkeling and got burnt. Sunday we went home. We had a good time and got super tan. The people in the Bahamas are awesome- so friendly and charming and just plain out fun! There were a bunch of young ... read more

Mom and I took our vacation together which included several cities in the southeast, Disney, and Bahamas. We took off on a Thursday and we were going to Savannah, but detoured and spent a night in Charleston (didn't love it). We went to Savannah and Tybee Island on Friday (DID love it!) and stopped in St. Augustine for the night. We toured St. Augustine on Saturday as well as visiting the fountain of youth (drank some- naaaaaasty!) before driving to Jensen Beach to visit a friend who lives there (took the long way down on the A1A). We went to church Sunday followed by some beach time and then drove to Orlando. Monday was our Disney day- we had free tickets from volunteering. Disney is kind of lame when you're 26. I wanted to see it ... read more

I leave Thursday for my Bahamas trip (seeing Savannah and Orlando first) and I'm a little irked about flying regulations. It costs $25 to check your luggage, so we're doing carry ons (after all, we pretty much just need bathing suits) and I hate that you can only take one 1-quart bag of 3 ounce liquids! I have shampoo, conditioner, hair gel, lotion, sunblock, toothpaste and things I'm not remembering to stick in there! I can take a quarter size dollop of each... Anyway- I've just been hanging out by the pool lately (I've got a super awesome tan going on!), going places with Stefani, reading, and watching re-runs of Buffy the Vampire Slayer on my computer. Oh yea- Damon left Sunday, and he's usually who I can count on to hang out with when I'm ... read more

I am back home from my 10 day road trip. After finishing our second day in Yellowstone, we headed back East. We stopped at Devil's Tower, Mt. Rushmore, Wall Drug, Badlands, and Souix Falls, before going South to St. Louis and ultimately home. We had a good time- it was a lot of driving though! And I get car sick sometimes being in a car, so if I wasn't napping, I was driving. But we saw so much stuff- lots of cities and parks and wildlife. I got to spend 9 days of nonstop time with Damon and Shaun (not always the best thing) before they both leave this week. Shaun snores like nothing I've ever heard before, so I'm glad to be back in my snore free room without two boys (it's sometimes hard having ... read more

June 2nd 2010

Alright! I'm at the halfway point of my first big summer vacation. Right now, Damon, Shaun, and myself are all in Gardiner, Montana (about 5 miles north of Yellowstone). We had planned to camp along the way for this trip, but we're a bunch of babies and it is COLD here! We started out in Memphis for Damon's graduation, and headed out Saturday. We stopped in Little Rock (everything was blocked off for some festival, so we didn't get to see anything), then to Tulsa (not a fan of Tulsa), and we stopped at some really sketchy motel thing in Cawker City. We have seen the biggest ball of twine and the largest praying hands. We stopped in Denver (LOVED it!) and Grand Tetons. We spent all day today in Yellowstone (in the rain and hail) ... read more

May 26th 2010

Going to the Atlanta Zoo made me want to go visit the Knoxville Zoo- I haven't been in probably 8 or 9 years. So I asked Nina if Parker could come with me, and Stefani joined us, and we all had a fun day at the zoo! My favorite part was Parker coming over this morning and being SO excited to go to the zoo, and then when I dropped him off he said, "Cool- you can come by again and take me to the zoo" (he calls me "Cool" because when he was just learning to talk he couldn't say "r"s, and he just never stopped calling me that). But I was so happy he had enough fun with me that he was willing to do it again! And- if anyone knows an Alex that ... read more
