Sorry kids... I can´t handle doing the blog, its too weird for me. I think even weirder than mass emails. The last straw was when I got amessage from a random correcting my spanish in a previous entry... therefore, no more blog entries. If youre genuinely curious/care about me, send me an email at carly.p.fletcher@gmail.com and I´ll write back eventually, and if this was just a time waster... get back to whatever it is you were supposed to be doing, slacker. I´m sure I miss you all. ... read more

Touring through the Cuyabeno Wildlife Reserve in the Amazon is so far the highlight of this trip. The adventure began from the moment we left the wildlife station, when somehow between my friend Jason from the station and I, we managed to bus 2 hours in the wrong direction only to have to bus right back past the station again to go the other way. I was worried because Jenna was supposed to be meeting us in Lago Agrio and the last I had heard, she was planning on taking the 7 am bus from Quito, which would have gotten her there in the early afternoon and after our little detour we were looking at late evening... but somehow when we finally got on a bus in Baiza we managed to get onto her bus ... read more

Well I lied about not having internet here... I guess it would be tough to do research up at the station if there wasn't any... The field station has been pretty awesome so far, despite the freezing cold and rain every day (I am currently wearing as many layers as I brought down here). It is really beautiful up here, and its been nice to have time to just hike around, read in a hammock, sleep, etc. One of the guys up here has been waiting on a part for his research project, so he and I have become partners in crime of uselessness. We've been helping another girl a lot with her project on dung beetles, which generally involves us setting traps at different altitudes using human "ca-ca", and then picking them up, sorting and ... read more

I realize that this is kind of lame to write after the first day, but I´m off to the field research station tomorrow morning and then probably won´t be back to internet land for 3 weeks... so here is the run down of my first day. How exciting. I flew in late last night, shared a cab with some lovely girls from the UK, stayed at a drab hostel because the good one was full, but had a phenomenal sleep after a full day of flying and about 20 min of sleep the night before due to mad anxiety about sleeping through my flight. This morning I woke up, had breakfast on the terrace with an incredible view of Quito and then heard some live music coming from afar, so had my first walk-about through the ... read more

Much like I just ran a test run of the TTC so I know I can get to the airport alone tomorrow morning for my flight down South, this is just a test run so I know what I'm doing when I'm paying for time and the keyboards are all different. I've spent the past week in Quebec City for my cousin Hilary's wedding, and now I'm in Toronto visiting friends before I fly out. Not that the past week hasn't been interesting, but I'm sure further entries will contain more exciting stories... I'm freaking out about the t minus 13 hour departure, but I'm sure as soon as I get on the plane, fear will quickly morph into excitement. I'll be backing up my photos on Flickr lest I get mugged and lose them all, ... read more
