Hello everyone, Brazil! What a great place. Carnival has been bonkers; C arrived on Carnival weekend and met up with Mr S. It has been a crazy few days, mostly involving samba and lots of caipirinha. The street parties and beach parties have been great but the culmination was the enormous party at the purpose built sambadromo (see photos). Before a crowd of around 30,000 people each of 14 samba schools has its chance to strut their stuff (split over two days). The drummers that hammer out the beat for each school are 400 strong and each takes an hour and twenty minutes to parade along the strip. We were sat opposite the judges which was great as it meant all the schools really went for it right were we stood. It is quite a marathon ... read more

Next stop Bariloche in the lake district of Argentina. The town itself is famous for its chocolate (excellent) and St Bernard dogs (?!). We began with an awesome rafting trip on the Rio Mansur. There were one or two adventures, mostly involving C falling out the boat at appropriately dangerous moments (see photos). L also managed to shoot a rapid sans bateau which she didn't enjoy too much at the time but managed to laugh at later in the day. On our last day, before flying back to Buenos Aires, we took a day long kayak trip on a nearby lake (see photos) and managed to brave some swimming in the freezing water. Robert went kayaking while we went rafting and vice versa. We heard from the guide that he enjoyed the kayaking but frustrated many ... read more

Hello everyone, So since our last blog we have taken a long bus from El Calafate (Argentina) into Chile to the town of Puerto Natales (a very windy place!). We stayed with a nice family in town who looked after us and baked nice muffins. As Em and Angus will know this proved to be a good thing as we were to need all the energy we could get before we set off on a 5 day trek in the Torres Del Paine National Park. We opted to trek the "W" route which follows an approximate W through the park. each night you stay in a series of "refugios" with lots of other smelly trekkers. It was hard work but very good fun. C was delegated as expedition pack horse carrying everything while L was in ... read more

Hello everyone, We have now flown down to El Calafate which is in Inland Patagonia. The town serves as a hub for expeditions and treks to the Perito Merino Glacier which is approx 80 km away. We managed to arrrive without too many problems. C managed to not concentrate and order a giant pizza of egg. Aside from that we had a relatively easy go of things and again found some lovely spots to enjoy ourselves. We set out early on Thursday (1st Feb) to the Moreno Glacier and the National Park that surrounds it. The Perito Moreno Glacier is one of 48 glaciers fed by the Southern Patagonian Ice Field located in the Andes system. It is a beautiful place. The drive toward the Glacier is amazing. C enjoyed seeing all of the glacial fields ... read more

So we arrived in Buenos Aires. We had a brief bonanza in Sao Paulo where a plane stopped briefly to drop off the Brazilian contingent. Some American gentlemen decided to get off the plane to add some time to the journey (either that or he was hiding in the loo, we never really found out). Anyway despite that we arrived in Buenos Aires on Sunday morning to be welcomed by a lovely 32 degrees C. Robert the Monkey is in his element although the Captain and Cheshire, fresh from snowy London, got nailed by mild sunstroke on the first day. Despite this BA is a fantastic place. So far we have ´ 1. Eaten out in lovely restaurants for really not very much money! 2. Visited some awesome barrios in BA with great bars. 3. Visited ... read more
