Sorry for the long gap in updates as I fell behind, so I am going back a bit in history. After one hell of a long trip (6 hrs), we finally manage to make it to Victoria, all it takes is a train, three buses and ferry journey. After finding our hostel and getting settled into a 42 person room (the hostel is a listed building so they can't put in any dividing rooms). Later on in the day we go for a stroll around Victoria. Then later I made a large pot of vegetarian chilli that seem to go down very well. The next day we explored around Victoria, it all centered around a very picturesque harbour. Full of yachts and seaplanes and tourists. We stopped for lunch at a local cafe, were I had ... read more

I hate fire alarms, as it was a fire alarm that woke me up at 2.30 in the morning as somebody decided that it was a good idea to through a fag butt down a trash shoot. So everybody had to evacuate the building as it takes 4 fire trucks to put out the smallest fire(why you need 4 trucks I have no idea). I have to wait for at least 45 minutes in my pj's be for they let us back to bed. This mornig I looked out the window to be confronted with a hail of rain, then I realised that this area of the world is rain capitol of the world (expect maybe Manchester). As I only have a ski jacket with me I through it was best that I brought a rain ... read more

The geryhound that we took from lake Louise to Revelstoke was the last one for the time being, the journey itself was pretty special as we travelled through the glacier national park. The road sticks close to the contours around their and every now and then you have to pass through an avalanche shed( a tunnel that covers the road to stop the snow blocking the path). We arrived in Revelstoke quite late in the day and after quite a long walk we arrived at the hostel. I could hardly say that hostel was fully booked when we arrived there, thought there was this really cool guy called Frederick who was staying in our room. After grabbing a few supplies, and checking out the non existent night life the town had to offer. We had a ... read more

Yesterday I woke up early at 8.30 so that I could set out on this cycle ride to the Canyon. Chaz stayed behind as it was a 30 mile ride and at least a two hour walk down the canyon . I hired a bike for 36$ at Banff and cycled along the Bow Valley highway, which is a great cycle route to do. Not to hilly, though it all uphill on the way there. Johnston Canyon must be the most beautiful place in the whole world. It’s a little gorge with 7 waterfalls running thought it. It is so stunning, especially in the winter as the falls freeze over in to these ice sculptors. The walk took about two hours to do, as the path was just a sheet of ice due to the number ... read more

Yesterday we walked up Sulphur mountain; it was about a 2 hour walk to the summit. The views where really amazing as you could see down into the Banff valley. The pathway was a bit slippery as it was covered in ice. When we got to the top the view of snow clad mountains and meandering rivers was worth the effort it took to climb the mountain. We only had 10 minutes at the top as the last gondola down was at 5.00pm. Later on in the evening we when to the restaurant that they have in the hostel, I had the veggie burger and boy was it good. Then we when to the bar that they have in the hostel as well, I met up with some of other backpackers and a few of the ... read more

We have just arrived in Banff today, after a 128km bus journey from Calgary. The hostel is a little outside of Banff at the top of a large hill that wasn’t too fun to trek up. On our last day in Calgary we visited Glenbow Museum and the Canadian Olympic Park. The museum was very interesting; it was all about the First Nation people, though my attention did start to waver after a while. We took the C-train and then caught the 408 bus to arrive at COP (Canadian Olympic Park) as it was a bit out of town. It was truly spectacular; the size of the bobsled run and the ski jumps was a sight to behold. We arrived back at the hostel quite late from COP, to eat some tomato soup (our diet has ... read more

Me and Charles arrived in Calgary yesterday, after a delayed flight (only by half an hour). We managed to take a shuttle bus to the hostel. The hostel is not bad, I guess it quiet similar to most hostels.I have found that its very quiet in Calgary, shops dont' open till 12 on a Sunday. You can move aross the city via these walkways that connect the buildings so you do not need to go out in the cold. Which it is about -5 to -10 in the day, thank god for thremal underware. I am currently in the libary so i cant connect up my digital camera to show you all my photos. So i guess i will have to descirbe the city. It very big, snowey and has lots of generic city skyscrapers. I guess ... read more

Today I started to tackle that mountain that is packing. I thought that it wouldn’t be too hard till I saw the amount that I had to squeeze in, needless to say I had to sacrifice my favourite jacket and my dressing gown (I don’t know how I will manage). With a lot of sweat and blood mainly on my behalf I did finally manage to fit every thing in, with may I say a whole compartment of free space for all that rubbish I know I am going to buy. Now is that impressive. Lewis Out ... read more
