Because we are nearly finished the school decided for our going away they would shut down for two days and take a trip to a nearby mountain named TaiShan. It is touted here as the most famous mountain in China, and I have read that it is the most climbed mountain in the world. (Wich doesn't suprise me after seeing the amount of people going up and down while we were there) All the way up the have build an 8Km walking path, made mostly of stairs, and along the way there are shops, stalls, rest stops, and very cool very antient Tsaoist and Bhuddist temples. Some of the temples are so old that there origins cant be traced, but now of course they are completely renovated and seem to have almost no religious or spiritual ... read more

Patrick and I have been here in China for almost 4 months, with only 2 to go before setting out and traveling Southeast Asia. For our first time teaching overseas I'd have to say I couldn't be more thrilled with how this experience has taken it's course. Our teaching staff at EF is really great, Charlie's from America, Patricia's from the UK, and Rachel's from Australia. We also have 5 chinese translators to help us with our classes, they are all oh so sweet! We are currently finishing up our busy season. Since all the kids have summer holidays from Chinese school their parents sign them up for English classes! Lucky us. Since Patrick and I have been here, we've had the pleasure of teaching all different ages and levels. Anything and everything from babies(3-4 year ... read more

A few days ago two girls from an advanced English class that we are sharing took us out to a historic site here in Linyi. It's a rebuilt version of the grounds that belonged to a famous and rich Calligrapher that lived 1000 years ago. The grounds most likely dont resemble much of what they used to be, but it was still very beautiful and old looking.... and there was grass. During our journey through the site we met an artist who lives in Linyi. The girls let us know that he is quite famous in China, and even has art in the Great Hall in Beijing, and in galleries around the world. (Including Vancouver) Because we are foreigners the man invited us into the building in which he was being interviewed for a local paper ... read more

Rollin' Along Summer here in Linyi has been going great, and has been very busy with teaching. Both Chantel and I are loving the jobs and loving the experience of living in China. Linyi has been a great place to view the changing, developing side of China. In Beijing and Shanghai we expect we will find more of a "big city feel". A while back we had a childrens day in People's Square (located at the very centre of downtown Linyi) and the weather was great and so were the kids. More recently I took a trip with a busload of English students to the nearby coastal city Qing Dao, and im working on getting some pics from that. Also, expect a blog soon from Chantel showcasing her babies class... Having a blast, Patrick PS Included ... read more

Blog 1: May Holidays So in May we had a holiday and we hit the road with Charlie, a teacher, and his Chinese girlfriend Bao Ling. We met up with two other teachers from the school Rachel and Patricia in Datong China, from there we went to The Hanging Monestary, some Buddah Caves, and the city PingYao. Because it was the holidays everywhere we went was packed with people. Crowds aside, the trip was great! enjoy the pics, there are more of Linyi and such to come. ... read more
