The blogs are coming fast now - I'm a bit behind. After Brisbane we headed to a place called Byron Bay. It has a really good reputation - real seaside, gorgeous town. It was lovely, but a bit dead, maybe because of the winter. We also ended up staying in a bit of a party hostel which was a bit wild for us. I think we're getting old! But they had really nice free meals so we put up with it. :-) We heard at the hostel that you could see whales from the Cape Byron lighthouse viewpoint so we headed up the steep climb through woodlands, along the roads all the way to the top. The views were spectacular! We stood up there watching for any signs of the humpback whales for quite a while. ... read more

Not long left now in Oz, can't believe how fast it has gone - got so much to tell you.... On our way down the coast we had been hearing little snippets about an amazing beach town called Noosa. The surf at Noosa's beaches are meant to be brilliant ranging from beginner breaks to amazing high waves for the advanced. I found a great deal on the YHA website for their hostel if you bought tickets to the zoo it meant we had discounted accommadation. Which is good because YHA hostels are good they are expensive. We booked for 5 nights to have a bit of a chill out after all of our adventures. The YHA building was called Halse Lodge and is the oldest building in the area, 100 years old. While we were there ... read more

Second blog for Australia and it's an exciting one! We decided after doing our research on Oz that we wouldn't leave the country until we had done tours to the must see Whitsunday Islands and the magnificent Fraser Island. We actually booked it as a double packadge in Cairns just before we caught the bus to Mission Beach. There was a really good deal - 3 days/2 nights on the Habibi boat on the Whitsundays and 3 days/2 nights on a 4x4 self drive tag along tour to Fraser Island with a night in a hostel either side the tour. All for $555 each. We are really pleased we went for this one as we have not seen a better deal since! The first stop was Airlie Beach which is known as the gateway to the ... read more

Wow! Our first blog for Australia. Time is going so fast - we've been here nearly 2 weeks already! The weather in Cairns, our first stop was beautiful! 29 degrees, no humidity - wahoooo! Where we are now it's still beautiful but a little cooler about 23 degrees, we are making the most of the weather because we have heard that it's very cold down south. We booked before we came out to stay at Gilligan's in Cairns, we'd heard the atmosphere was great and it had a good bar. Crikey, I thought uni was crazy but this place was wild!! There was a club underneath the dorms that went on until 5am seven nights a week. There were competitions every night and always something going on. It really was not a couples place at all, ... read more

It's time again for a new blog. We are actually in Australia now and I thought I'd just put something about the lack of photos on this blog. We have a virus on our memory card which is putting the month of May's photos in jepordy. We have been to a camera shop who can recover the photos but unfortunately everytime they went to put it on a cd it crashed their computer. They didn't seem to be experts so I'm going to wait until I can get to a big city and find a specialist. I'm really upset about it all but fingers crossed they will be ok. These photos are so important. Being back in Kuala Lumpur was good fun as we felt quite used to the city now and we know how to ... read more

Sorry it's been so long since I last updated the blog, Borneo has been a bit of a rollercoaster! We've done so much of our journey by land it was really strange getting on a plane again. We landed in the no frills capital Kota Kinabalu and went straight to the hostel. No public buses from the airport so had to rely on an extortinate taxi price, they just don't budge either. Luckily, we shared our ride with a Chinese couple so it wasn't so bad. We settled into the hostel and had a bit of a shock when we looked at some of the tours Borneo offer - soo expensive. We thought we'll just see what we can do We spent a couple of days having a look around the capital but there isn't really ... read more

We can't believe we've been in Malaysia for 2 weeks - we've done so much! We are actually in Borneo now so I thought I'd update the blog before we had too many adventures here. The speedboat across to Pulau Langkawi from Thailand was great, we got an actual seat and it was on time. Langkawi is known for its beautiful beaches but as we were only staying for two nights we stayed in the town called Kuah which is near the jetty. We'd had a lot of the beaches so we decided to do something different and visit Underwater World. It was really fun! It's Malaysia's largest aqaurium featuring 200 different species of marine and freshwater creatures. There was even a talking parrot! Our favourites were the turtles and the rockhopper penguins. We watched the ... read more

I can't believe I am writing our last blog in Thailand. What an adventure! We have seen and done so much that it's almost a bit scrambled now.....so many memories to cherish from this one country. Before I get too sentimental I better carry on with telling you what we've been up too. We were really sad to leave Ko Lanta. It was a beautiful island, so quiet but we don't think it'll be long before it's just as busy as Phi Phi. The crossing to Ao Nang was ok, we hadn't booked anywhere in mind but we had an idea of where we wanted to stay so the bus dropped us off on the main street in the town. We couldn't find this hotel at all. I think the Lonely Planet really messed up on ... read more

We've had a brilliant time the last couple of weeks so I thought it was definetely time to update the blog. Through the grapevine I've heard people are wondering where it is...... Finding accommadation on Ko Phi Phi was a bit of a nightmare and I spent the last two days in Phuket looking through loads of hotel info. I came close to pulling my hair out. Then I just came to the conclusion that EVERYWHERE is expensive in Phi Phi so just book. We finally found Mama Beach Residence in Ton Sai Bay - it was really lovely but like all Phi Phi hotels well overpriced. Our beach area was really nice and there was a cordoned off area where we could swim - some 5 star resorts didn't seem to have this so we ... read more

Hope you all enjoyed reading the last blog. Apologies for the mix up on the photos and the descriptions, they were all fine until the blog was published. I think a similar thing is going to happen now with this one, don't think the photos are in the correct order. Anyway back to this blog..... Going to Khao Sok National Park is one of the main reasons why I wanted to come to Thailand. Its located in the Surat Thani province - its land area is 739km squared. The park is a remmant of rainforest which is older and more diverse than the Amazon Rainforest! It is truly the most amazing place I've ever been too. I really can't understand why so many tourists bypass it on the way to the islands. They are seriously missing ... read more
