It's been a while since I added anything here, but I've been in Cville the whole time. Exams finished up last week and I'm home for a few days now. Still waiting for grades... I'm going to be leaving Thursday for Arizona. We will be staying on the Hualapai Reservation and learning about tribal government. It should be very interesting and educative. After that I'll be home for a few days, then heading up north to Minnesota for the remainder of the summer. Hopefully I'll be able to keep this updated with my adventures! [View Full Entry]

The last part of the week was spent in San Francisco amid a full schedule. After my last entry, the group ate lunch in Chinatown and then spent the rest of the day looking around Fisherman's Wharf and other areas. We travelled to Haight Ashbury to visit Amoeba Records, a famous store. Thursday morning we volunteered with Larkin Street. This is a group that provides shelter to homeless children in San Francisco. Half the group cooked them lunch while the other half of us sorted donated clothing and shoes. The rest of the day was spent wandering through San Francisco's many [View Full Entry]

Wow, where to begin? We've had a busy and fun couple of days. I spent friday night in Falls Church, VA and arrived at Dulles by 5:30 AM Saturday morning. We boarded our flight to Long Beach without much delay and were off. We safely arrived at the Long Beach Airport, which was little more than a shack and some runways. We waited inside for about half an hour before walking over to another plane for the flight to Oakland. This short flight was passed watching basketball on ESPN. Upon arrival in Oakland, I discovered my pack had numerous rips in [View Full Entry]

My Tent
My Tent
Setting the tent up in the common room of my suite
My tent came in yesterday! It looks like it will work quite nicely. After classes ended at 3:15 I checked to make sure the tent wasn't lacking any parts and then tried to finish up most of my packing. 4:45 found me waiting outside the John Paul Jones Arena in the rain for the basketball game against Virginia Tech. At 5:30 we were finally let in and the fun commensed. On Senior Night, the Cavaliers put up a great performance against their instate rivals and won 69-56. Coupled with the Yellow Jackets win over UNC two hours later, the Cavs are [View Full Entry]

Here are links about some of the activities we'll be doing in California. The first half of the week will be spent in Point Reyes National Seashore. The second half of the week will find us volunteering with the Larkin Street Youth, the Covenant House, and the Harvest, St. John's Presbyterian Church. While, I'm unsure about the exact activities we'll be doing, I do know we will be seeing Oakland from the perspective of youth our age from the Covenant House, aboard the Das Frachtgut. We will be staying in the Green Tortoise Hostel in San Francisco's North Beach District. Yes, [View Full Entry]

In just four short days, I will be leaving for California. That's right, Spring Break has finally arrived. We fly out of Dulles on Saturday morning and will return on Sunday the 11th. I'm going with Alternative Spring Break, a student run organization here at UVA. We are spending our spring breaks by doing community service in the San Francisco area of California. We will be camping in Point Reyes National Seashore from Sat-Wed, then travelling into Oakland and San Fran for the second half of the week. As an avid camper, I am obviously excited about the four nights under [View Full Entry]

On Dec 29-31, I was able to take a short backpacking trip along the Appalachian Trail down near Roanoke. I went with a friend from home and UVA, Tommy, and a couple of his friends. We visited the Dragons Tooth, McAfee Knob, and Tinker Cliffs. Luckily, we missed Tinker Creek, the setting for Pilgrim at Tinker Creek, quite possibly the worst book ever written. But anyway, here are some pictures from the last days of 2006. CC [View Full Entry]
