Today we have to go meet with the commissioner of Kajo Keji. They have a custom that when guests or visitors come, they must meet with him and sign the guest book. Lasu’s friend David came to pick us up and we left. The commissioner is a super chill guy and very smart. He is also a believer so it was exciting to have an ally in politics. Mama Susan mentioned to him that they need workers for the orphanage and we discussed bartering for their services. I mentioned to him that I would assist in any way possible and if he needed any of my skills I was available. Most people have very limited knowledge of the computer and everyone wants to learn so I knew I could use that to work a deal. While ... read more

Today is Sunday and I am super excited to be able to go to Solomon Baka’s church. They have an English service at 8:30, it is real funny that they do because most people do not speak any English except “how are you”. The service was awesome. It started off slow with only about 20 people 8:30 and by 9 or 9:15 there were over 200 people packed into this little church and a whole bunch of kids on the floor. They were very animated with their singing and Bishop Simon spoke a solid sermon about bearing good fruit. We were invited to sing in front of the whole church so we decided to sing “How Great is our God” by Chris Tomlin and “Righteousness”. We weren’t very good but they enjoyed it so we were ... read more

Burdened

Again I couldn’t sleep last night; my heart is so broken I cannot stop thinking about the children and the inability for them to get the food they need. All night I have been thinking of ideas to help raise support for the orphanages so we can get some self sustaining business going and support the children’s basic needs as well as their schooling. I know I am not individually able to do this, but with the grace of God and his almighty power, we can accomplish it. Our morning was typical and we had some extra relax time so Raveesh, Amy, Candace, Edwin and I took a tour (walk) down the road a ways. Most of our conversation was about change, concerning the best ways to prepare the children for life after the orphanage. It ... read more

I couldn’t sleep all night. I cried most of the night through because my heart is bursting with sorrow and joy. I feel responsible for the situation that the people are in. Most people will say, “you can’t feel responsible for them it’s not your burden to carry”. To those people I would say you’re wrong, Christ calls us to carry one another’s burdens and I am called, more than most, to do just that. I finally got out of bed as the sun was slowly creeping over the horizon; I needed to listen to something so I began listening to Savior King by Hillsong United. My heart was filled with emotion and I collapsed on my knees in the dirt crying my heart to the Lord. I don’t know how long I was there but ... read more

I awoke so early it was still dark out. As I sat and prayed the orphanage slowly came alive with the young girls sweeping the entire area. Even though I has already heard, I am still amazed at how dedicated and hard working the ladies are. As time moves on the rest of the children trickle out of their tukuls (small huts) and begin by brushing their teeth with small sticks from the trees then getting to their chores. Not a single one complains or even thinks of making an excuse. As I am sitting here and have been continuing to read through Ephesians and Philippians; the Lord has really placed on my heart the desire to live fully in Christ and be above reproach. This is a big challenge for someone who struggles with purity ... read more

We got up at the butt crack of dawn, boarded the van full of all sorts of stuff and about twelve people, thus beginning our long bumpy adventure to Adjumani, Uganda. We stopped many times along the way to purchase bush rat on a stick, Casavas, two live chickens whom accompanied us for the rest of the way, Bananas, Pineapples and various other goods. Most bumpy ride ever. I actually did manage to sleep though it was rough. Driving along this road I finally realized I am in Africa. This road stretched on forever and I’ve never seen so many kids. There were thousands of people chillin along the road, it was incredible. I definitely don’t think they’ve seen too many white people because everyone was staring at us like we were out of place. We ... read more

We woke up very refreshed around 10am, got ready for a day in the city getting our Sudanese visas, exchanging money and purchasing supplies for the journey to Adjumani, Uganda and Kajo Keji, Sudan. It took most of the day to accomplish this because of the heavy traffic, slow pace of life and minor setbacks. We cruised back to Susan’s place for an evening of fun with children. We played with them for hours and it was joyous see smiles on their faces. I was super tired so I turned in early.... read more

After an emotional departure from the airport, Amy and I boarded flight 1 to Amsterdam. Flight was solid, no worries. Met Eric, Genora and Linda in Amsterdam and sat back with them for a while getting to know them better. I was feeling real agitated for some reason, not sure why. Raveesh showed up some time later and Candace barely made it due to her flight being stopped because of a medical emergency. Anyways, we all flew down to Nairobi and slept the entire flight. We then jumped aboard our flight to Entebbe and got there fine, just without Candace’s trunks. We were greeted by a host of characters who were very joyous to welcome us. We learned that they were all members of Lahash (the organization we are with: www.lahash.net) in some way. A guy ... read more
