Hello or shall I say Hola?! My name is Crystal Martinez, I'm 22 years old, and I live in Los Angeles, California. I'm graduating this week with my BA in Anthropology from California State University Long Beach. At 2AM the same night I'll be flying out of LAX airport and after a 14 hour flight (with a short stop in Panama) I will be arriving in Buenos Aires, Argentina! My boyfriend, Mark Booth, and I will be living in BA as they call it, for about one full month. I am sad to leave my family, my dog Chiquita and my friends (I'll miss you Chris, Mel P, Alee, & Christina)! I know Argentina will be my first great adventure (besides Mexico) out of my home country America.
There are many things Mark and I have plans to do while in BA; tango dancing, disco nightclubs, Argentine wine and beef dinners although Mark is a vegetarian, he is participating in the culture like a true anthropologist, I commend him on his effort to fully immerse himself into the culture- next maybe lunch picnics in the beautiful parks of Palermo Viejo barrio, drinking yerba mate tea on our hopefully patio/balcony apartment, spanish lessons, a soccer game if it's not too late in the season, visiting Evita Peron's grave, antique shopping in San Telmo barrio, horse racing out in the country, and maybe even see an opera...

This last Monday I woke up sleepy eyed at 5 AM to prepare for my short side trip to Iguazu Falls, which included the following… - 10 min. taxi to airport - 90 min. flight towards northern Argentina - 20 min. shuttle from airport to hostel - 15 min. bus ride from hostel to Iguazu national park - Experiencing the jungles & enormous waterfalls… Priceless Where to begin in explaining the amazing landscape of Iguazu Falls is beyond me. Today, for the first time on our trip, Mark and I decided to separate and go our own ways and explore the city individually. If we had done this in the first week of our vacation, I might have been paranoid of the whole city, but slowly after learning the street names and the important landmarks (good shoe stores, the mall) I felt more confidant in my navigational skills. Pues… once again it’s been awhile since my last entry, but I have more interesting news and stories to tell. First day in Buenos Aires

First of all let me tell you, 14 hour plane rides are no fun although the booze was free and the vegetarian meals were excellent. I slept through the remake of Sabrina, finally watched Step Up 2 the Streets and was actually impressed by the final dance off...
