street performers - From: 365 Steps to Heaven
i love watching street performers. in london they're in covent garden and some of them are just amazing. i don't know how they do it! in london, dogs are allowed everywhere too! even the bus! i don't mind harmless ones but when we were on the bus, a pitt was on with the owner. pitts are illegal in england but people often mix them so they can't say they're pure-bred. we wrote in and complained so the next time someone with a small lap dog tried to come on, they seem to now need a permit to bring them on the bus which is a blessing since that pitt was by my legs by our groceries!!! usually it's the lower classes (they're called CHAVS= council housing (which is like public housing), aggressive, violent) who own those kind of dogs. i sound snobby saying that, but it's true which is just unfortunate. sigh.

Barolo - From: Serralunga d'Alba
We didn't realize it was well known until later. Cheryl has a cookbook that specifies Barolo for a recipe! We just got it because it was from the town we were in.

speaking of scaffolding! - From: 365 Steps to Heaven
I had the same experience with scaffolding the two times I've been to Notre Dame. It was removed right after I left last time. Sigh.

authentic quality - From: Just Passing Through Cannes
i'm like you two! i like to go where there are lots of locals. i hate touristy places because it's crappy, i think. it was funny that on our honeymoon in kauai, i don't think we had breakfast in the hotel. we went out searching for restaurants where locals hang out. i likes those places much better! :)

Europe . . . Again? - From: A Day With a French Family
You Guys! Europe Again? Please try and stay there until November 17-25 so we can meet in Spain. Your Auntie Yoo and I will be in Madrid, Toledo, and Valencia vacationing, er, I mean, attending an important international conference. I'd like to sample the Spanish Luxembourgers, if any.

Srta. Luis - From: An Eastern European Madrid
LOL - actually I speak pidgin spanish - It's amazing how much has come back to me, I can understand quite a bit. It's only been like 18 years!!! We're doing way better here than our three days in Madrid last year, but maybe it's because more people here speak English than in Madrid.

Survivor? - From: Scooby Snack
That pic of J "at the blue pool" reminds me of the location of one of the team campsites from the T.V. series Survivor, the second season. That season was supposedly filmed in the Australian Outback though.

Tomb of a General - From: An Eastern European Madrid
Just for your information, the freedom of Argentina, Chile and Peru was secured by General Jose de San Martin, and the tomb in your picture is his tomb. Simon Bolivar secured freedom of Venezuela, Colombia and Ecuador, and hi is buried somewhere in Venezuela where he was born. Both of them were leading their armies at the same time against the spaniards, and they met each other just once in Guayaquil (Ecuador) in 1821.

Chunks - From: Dolphin Flounder
Well in Italy, I would kind of expect that. In NZ, I was just surprised they'd run it. And with no danger waiver! (or booties) We're just glad we were among the 4 people who DIDN'T blow chunks. I'm sure it was awesome if the weather was good for it, but the seals are so much more reliable.

Bent - From: Free Jandals!
Unfortunately I didn't censor it - I just couldn't remember what he actually said since it was pretty awkward coming from him. The Aussies and NZers have so much slang that it's hard to remember this stuff.

Hot Dog - From: Rugby Sevens
So, it's called a Hot Dog, but basically it's a corn dog dipped in really thin batter, that ends up crinkling up like an eggroll. I'm sure it tastes OK, but it was such a perversion of an American invention, we stayed away!

money - From: Dolphin Flounder
This sounds similar to our experience on a tour in Southern Italy. We signed up to go on this little boat for a cave tour and they took us all the way out to it but the swells wouldn't let us get in the cave so we all came back . . . no money back. They knew the weather when we started! hmmmph

sad it was disappointing - From: Dolphin Flounder
it did seem like such a money-making endeavor. i mean, that's sooo dangerous that you guys were supposed to swim in 6-foot swells! that's just too dangerous and i'm sure it would've been awesome in calm waters like that dutch couple experienced but man, i was so excited to see you got to swim with wild dolphins! but then after i read it, i felt bad that it was just a big disappointment. does seem all about money, huh? sad. i would've loved to do it in calm seas! oh well...

How do you do it.... - From: Geothermal Wonderland or Tourist Trap?
First, how do you always manage to find someone to take the most beautiful picture of the two of you everywhere you go??? How??? Second, I got a horrible rash from a hot tub in Tofino, BC two years ago..... my hot tub days are over! Third, I truly believe in the thermo pool/spas. When I hurt my leg in Budapest, I swam at the thermo pool at the hotel and my leg, and body never felt better! I slept good too.
