I'm a 26 year old wide-eyed, impressionable kid looking for some adventure. I'm writing this travelblog to share the experience. Hopefully someday I can look back at these stories when I'm old and grey and smile, and perhaps inspire others to go out on a limb and change it up a little. So subscribe and keep up... This is going to be fun!

Yes, it's true. I loved Malaysia. I loved the diving. I loved the beach. I loved the people (most of them anyways). I loved the jungle. But with every great love story comes tragedy. This is a love story. Enjoy. The reason we would consciously avoid minibuses was because of the journey south from Krabi. After spending a night at the Green Tea Guesthouse, we were sold by the woman who managed it on a ticket that took us directly from Krabi to the Malaysian border. It would take us to a town called Sungai Kolok in southern Thailand and drop us off. We would have to drive through the border. We woke up very early to catch the bus. And it was mini. We were stuck on this journey with two Brazilians, Lucas and Giovanno. ... read more
After our day in Ayuthaya we took the train back to Bangkok, then took an exciting cab ride through the city to get to the Southern Bus Terminal. This cabbie must have driven F1. He weaved in and out of traffic like it wasn't moving and got us there in record time. After a little bit of a wait, we took a VIP, Air Conditioned bus a few hours south of the city to Chumphon. It was the jumping off point for the Island Ko Tao; famous for its diving. On the bus we watched a Thai movie about a musician. It was all in Thai, so we weren't sure what was happening but it was somehow very entertaining. The ride was very comfortable, and we were there earlier than we thought. By the end of ... read more
After our Ko Tao outing, we ferried our way to Ko Pha-ngan, the island we spotted from the Sunnyview restaurant near the peak on the last island. And of course, it's the island famous for its full moon party. It's an event that Clark and I decided we had to attend; a tour of Southeast Asia for twenty-somethings isn't complete without it. It lived up to its reputation. We took the ferry from Ko Tao with the two South Africans, Kate and Grattin. Clark had arranged for us to stay at Cookie Bungaloes, while Kate and Grattin were going to be doing some bargain hunting when they landed. Unfortunately, that was the last we would see of them since they got whisked away by promises of lodging for two hundred and fifty baht. Stupidly we didn't ... read more
Meet Clark Davis, my most recent travel buddy on this little trip abroad. Clark is officially the third to join me on this trip. First Dad, then Northy, now Clark. I know; it seems as though the level of maturity and self respect has fallen since the beginning. But don't worry; we're both being equally horrible influences on each other. He's a stand up guy, and although we've only known each other for a few years, we get along pretty well. He's also documenting this lil' trip on his own blog. Visit www.mytb.org/hey-its-clark for his side of the story. His sophmore entry is impressive, telling of his journalistic prowess. But then again, don't believe everything he says about me. some stories may be embellished, partially false, or entirely fabricated. I'll take you on a journey starting ... read more
Yeah, I know. It isn't nearly enough time. I could spend years here. But first let me catch up on what happened in New Zealand since the last time I wrote. So my final week in New Zealand was interesting. I had one last night out at Winnies in Queenstown which was a mess. I met up with Sandra from Tekapo who got a new job in some spa there. I hope she stays there a while... Things didn't end perfectly for her in Tekapo, but she's good at what she does. Queenstown is a party town, so it will be interesting to see how long she lasts. Anyways it was good to see her, but the drinks that night didn't treat me too well the next day. The boys were taking off to Christchurch for ... read more
My experience in New Zealand would have been totally different if it hadn't been for hockey. Who knows... Northy and I might have very well ended up picking fruit if we hadn't decided to play hockey here when we arrived asking for jobs for the third time. Perhaps I would be home right now, dissappointed that I couldn't find work. And it's opened a few doors for me in my last few weeks in New Zealand. It was great playing every week in Tekapo. It gave us a chance to blow off some steam from the week of work. And I definitely worked hard enough on the ice to earn a cold beer afterwards. But really, bottom line, we were hired and hung around Tekapo to help win the Erewhon Cup. It's a tournament that's played ... read more
I know, it's been a while since the last update... But there have been a few roadblocks. first off, I was using the internet at work for these updates, and since, the wireless connection is no longer. something about a massive bill or something, so they canned the service. Fair enough. Another problem was my trial version of Microsoft Word ran out, and I don't want to pay the $150 CDN to 'convert' to the full version. It's highway robbery I say. Life has been good in Tekapo. Lately, or since I've been working here, I've fallen into a life of a sort of routine. I sleep in the same bed at night. I make lunches to eat the next day at work. I wake up more or less around the same time when I have ... read more
Hey guys, This is long overdue, and I apologize for the wait! It’s been a crazy little while for us here in NZ. A car has been bought, and we finally landed a job. So enjoy the read… it might take a while if you read all the way through. We’re having a wicked time here. Unfortunately I can't seem to upload my Bungy jump video, so the pics will have to do. But we start way back in Christchurch, on Thursday, April 30th. Thursday, April 30: Thursday was taken to try out Turner’s again. We reviewed the paperwork from the previous session. We looked to see how many exactly ended up selling in the low range. We figured one in three cars ended up selling either below the suggested price range or close to the ... read more
I have started writing this blog on Saturday, April 25, 2009. We have officially had our first Planes, Train’s and Automobiles moment. We found an unreal deal online, that cost us $75 each to fly from Auckland to Christchurch. We were late for our flight. Worse even, I checked in just in time, but Northy got stuck at the Auckland airport. It cost us an additional $65 to get him on the next flight to Christchurch an hour later. Now that I think of it, it hasn’t been our first PT and A moment. We have shared a bed for the last few nights. And Northy, those weren’t pillows your hand was between. If you don’t understand the references, you’ll just have to go out and enjoy the classic film. Another note of significance; this is ... read more
And the story continues. Thursday, April 2: We drove from Wanaka to Haast had a simple dinner at a restaurant close to the holiday park. We did a short hike into the rainforests, and learnt a little more about the local land. There was an interesting story of a man who had been marrooned on the west coast in the Haast region, and survived on the land for three years until he was discovered by a passing vessel. We wondered how difficult that would have been. The area we were in was very thick, subtropical rainforest. It musn't have been much fun for the guy. There were a few nice sounding birds chirping amongst the leaves and branches, and we took some pictures. Eventually we headed back to the area we were staying and walked to ... read more
