So here we are at the very end of our travels in Sir Stanford Raffles' colonial Singapore. Feels bizzare that this last stop feels so much more like home than any of the places we have visited in the last 11 months - we put our feet up and enjoy it. We have spent our last month in Malaysia - just in time for Ramadan! Kuala Lumpur is an amiable, clean little city where we had good honest fun. The Petronas towers were awesome dude. Then off to the ancient port city of Melaka - an intersting cutlural and religious melting [View Full Entry]

Team GB, Now then, you're all probably getting well sick of reading these by now and so I promise to keep it brief. So, as Bron mentioned in the last blog we met her sister Ali (teacher of physics, black belt in yahtzee and all round top banana) in Bangkok and set about cramming 'Thailand' into 2 weeks. Our plan was three-fold. Havin' it large in Bangkok, a little bit of temple culture and flat-on-back on beach time. Large Oi Oi Oi at last we're acting like proper backpackers smashing back glasses of Chang and 4am finishes. We enjoy a few [View Full Entry]

Cambodia...the differences become clear as soon as we floated over the border on our fantastic mekong river cruise. Children run alongside the boat screeching hello in their best and loudest english, groups of old toothless men halt their game of cards in the forests to give us a cheery toohless grin, we are definetly the highlight of the days entertainment around these parts and I get quite tired of frantic waving after a while - we take shifts. Vietnam had become little more than an excerisise in how to leave a country with minimum fuss so Cambodia's innocent, friendly and welcoming [View Full Entry]

Hey hey. Sorry for the delay since the last post. Cambodian PCs are proving severely ill-equiped for the tricky task of typing. Don't even try to load up a photo. The Bad I am opening this blog with a moan. Perhaps even a rant. Please forgive me. My reasons should become clear. We were looking forward to Vietnam a great deal but have to admit to having been disapointed. We've developed a sort of 'golden rule' during our now 9 months away. Apply this to anywhere and be honest about the answer. One of the great privilages of a trip like [View Full Entry]

Good morning, we're in northern Vietnam, home of the Dong, and it's raining. As good a time as any to give you a quick run down of what's been happening since we left Japan. A Taste of China Ok, so why only Hong Kong and not the month trawling through China originally planned? Well, in a move to encourage foreign visitors during the Olympic run-up China, as well as beating Tibetans with sticks, decided to tighten the visa application process. You can still get one but the conditions are now arduous enough to make the independent traveller think twice, which is [View Full Entry]

Konnichiwa! Japan was always the country I was most excited about visiting. It has always fascinated me and for once this country exceeded all expectations! After spending nearly as month travelling this crazy land I feel as though I should write a dissertation length essay about it but dont worry, relax, I'll leave that for the book deal when I get back! Ill just leave you with the gems of our stay! Polite Japan Everything is spotless here, even the tramps (the few we see) are better turned out than us! People are unexpectedly friendly and approachable - as little old [View Full Entry]

We peeled the label off a few and shared a 3am pie on a Kings Cross street corner. All good. Just like being at home. The next day we clear our heads with a stroll along the coast to Bondi. Steve and I are asked to leave for being too tanned and athletic. Our last day is a pilgrimage to the impressive Sydney Cricket Ground. Lamentably, we are here to hear the crack of kneecap [View Full Entry]

all quiet in Boracay...
about 1 hour later

So here we are in Queenstown, New Zealands south island, after living the dream of 32 days in a van! First of all, yes, we did jump out of a plane but more of that later... For now we are enjoying living in proper rooms with actual heating, a toilet and everything, getting used to sleeping over 4 hrs a night and generally easing ourselves back into normal society slowly. Let us get you up to date... Auckland We enjoyed a lovely 4 days spoiling ourselves in luxury surroundings at 4 star hotel (thanks to last minute bargain!). Dad, we bumped [View Full Entry]

First off sorry for delay - we have been out walking. Ok so here we are in Ushuaia, the end of the world (well the southern-most city of the world anyway). We have done so many brilliant things in Argentina since we last wrote to you all and are now resting our sore feet but smiling smugly as we reminisce... Mendoza Spent incredibly hot days lazily strolling the wide pleasant streets, rafting down grade 4 rapids in fantastic scenery and combining mountain biking with wine for a slightly dangerous Valentines day pedalling through the many pretty vineyards tasting all the wonder [View Full Entry]

Quilotoa Loop - Central Equador You can reach Chugchilan by milk truck or by catching the twice daily bus from Latacunga. Fours hours bouncing around next to cartons of yoghurt seemed like a bit much and so we opted for the īcomfortīof the bus. Itīs a few cents extra but we have the pleasure of a ride that confirms every stereotype there is of rural South American public transport. Itīs bumpy and the switchbacks as we ascend the mountainside are hair-raising (literally true for Bron only, obviously), we share the cabin with sacks of grain, 3-foot tall toothless farmer types carr [View Full Entry]
