To a stranger from a familiar land
Hi Christina, How similar are my own feelings about Greece, land of my wonderful wife and of her family, of my extended family. I too have felt both at home and sometimes like a stranger there as well. Nice pictures that reminded me of many experiences. Yes, to know one's past better is to better know the future. Safe travels. God's grace and peace. Love ya, Dad

Here's to you too! Cheers!
Hi Christina, Beautiful pictures, indeed as in a Fairy Tale! Glad you connected with our friend's daughter. How strange to have such an eccentric king as Ludwig. Yet he seems to have just wanted to have a real-life fairy tale castle, didn't he? What dreams do we have that might be considered eccentric or even crazy by others? Don't they ever eat anything green? Still, bratwurst, pretzels and good german beer once in awhile sounds nice. God's peace. Love, Dad

We can hope for never again....
Hi Christina, Your trip knows both joy and sorrow. You are brave to visit Dachau. What horrors lie in the human heart, fortunately mostly hidden but sadly expressed all too often. We always want to blame someone or something else for our own evil indeed. We can always hope that the memory will prevent some future evil, but the only true solution is divine cleansing. Thanks for reminding all of us. God's peace and grace. Love ya, Dad

Are you a Bohemian now?
Hi Christina, Wow, you made it to Prague and Czech Republic! Must be interesting contrast with rest of western Europe, because of communist influence. Nice descriptions of people and places. It is interesting with all the cathedrals and churches to think what influce Christianity had on Europe. Pilsner beer too! Bohemian means someone living a carefree almost hedonist lifestyle; wonder how it came to mean that! God's peace. Love ya, Dad

Sprechen Sie Deutsch?
Hi Christina, So that's how you say "Do you speak German" in german, if I spelled it right! I can relate with your feelings about how so many non-Americans speak several languages, and I know only some words and phrases in a few! Now be careful if you hear: "Du bist eines schonest madchen!" (you are a pretty girl!) I too was in Cologne in 1971 and saw the Cathedral, but never visited interesting Dresden. Safe trip to Munich and Prague. God's peace. Love, Dad

Luxemborg in one day!
Hi Christina, It seems you nearly walked enough to cover much of the country! I too traveled in Europe with Eurail-Pass (train pass) in 1971 when I met Mom. Great idea to take in Luxemborg, even if for but a day. What a quaint place! Thought more would have been destroyed during WWII fighting, but apparently not. A well-heeled country it would seem. Nice pictures of the bridges. Name of the river? God's speed. Love ya, Dad

bombing of Dresden
Hi Christina - it is great to get all your emails. I feel like we are traveling around the world with you. I was interested in your descriptions of Dresden. Now that you have seen the city, you might want to google more information about what that city went through in WWII - and what the town went through to get the Frauenkirche re-built over the past decade. I also recommend that you read Kurt Vonnegut's book Slaughterhouse Five which is about the bombing of Dresden - memorable. Have fun as you continue your journeys - you will never regret observing and living all these different cultures and histories. Love, Gale and Sandy.

Beautiful Brugge and Brussels and beer
Hi Christina, What a gorgeous little place Brugge is. Your description of movie set is quite apt. Do some the people dress in traditional outfits? Brussels also looked quaint despite its size. EU parliment- what a treat! You can choose English headsets? I remember my grandfather Hall spoke of seeing Mannekin Pis fountain during his visit in the 1950s! Glad you enjoyed the beer so much. God's grace and peace. Love ya, Dad

Its a small world after all....
Hi Christina, Yes, I think it is a small world after all for you, with all your travels! We found Holland to be quaint, picturesque, and unique also when we visited many years ago. We too visited Anne Frank's house, and were moved as you were. The Dutch are friendly and I found myself feeling at home in some ways there. Glad you could meet with Suzanne and spend an evening with her. And meet with your friends also. Keep warm. God's speed through Europe en route to Greece. Love ya, Dad

Rocks and more....
Hi Christina, Just a bunch of rocks? You actually got to Stonehenge? I have always wanted to visit it too, for its historical and astronomical importance. Very nice you saw it! Like the comments about the dress and manner of the Brits: right, it all seems jolly well proper to me, mum! Bristol and Oxford are indeed historical places; I enjoyed the cathedral views. You have seen much in England in just one week- well done! God's peace and safe travel to Amsterdam. Love ya, Dad

To comment or not to comment.....
Very nice blog entry on London. I completely enjoyed your comments and contrasts comparing London with the states. Quaint is an appropriate descriptor I agree with after seeing your pictures. How about a photo of you in one of those red phonebooths? And yes, I am sure the Queen has her tea and scones in residence very often! Didn't know drinking water was forbidden in English churches; must have missed that in my church history reading. Great blog. God's peace. Love ya, Dad

Bon Voyage
Wow - looks like you'll be visiting some great countries. You can get cheap (relatively) standby/reduced view seats to theater shows in London. In the many shows I saw, rarely did I actually have trouble seeing the stage. Prague is the bomb! Be sure to try some absinthe. :)

End of the Beginning....
Hi Christina, The End of the Beginning indeed! I appreciate this last (and first?) travel blog entry- so unexpected! You have gained incredible appreciation and perspective in all you travels, I see. To study with so many who are different must be eye-opening also. Travel bug..... yes, the call of the open road. May God give you wisdom to know where to go, when to settle, and what to do. Beautiful pictures of Sydney at night. Love ya, Dad
