Today Mostafa took Kellie and I into the practice area and up onto the ice. What an experience! We took lots of photos and Mostafa let us pose with his ice axe :) Mostafa helped us through the difficult areas - he had crampons on so much better balance than us on the ice. He took us to see the remains of a helicopter that crashed up here in 2005. Not much left of it now. Great view of Base Camp from there and it was great seeing some climbers in action. Ryan and Al were out practicing so we watched them for a while. I think I would like to learn how to climb when I go back to NZ....... read more

Its now been a few months since I was at Base Camp but due to popular demand ive decided to type some parts of my diary and my experiences at Base Camp. We started walking on 30th March 2008. A rather scary flight (pretty close to the surronding mountains at times and a bit jumpy during the flight!) took us to Lukla and we began walking Kellie, myself, Jim and our guide Dawa. The first day was quite short but good to get to know each others paces (mine and Kellies is a lot faster then Jims!) We spent the night in Phading and met some very interesting trekers: Johnny the fireman from Las Vegas who loved to talk politics, Darshan the French Canadian guy, Stefan the funny Swiss guy, Giles English guy who works on ... read more

Hi everyone hope you are well. If any of you dont want to be part of this email list just let me know :) Well im in Kathmandu now. Had a good trip over. Stopover in Bangkok was good and I got to go exploring in the city. Turning up in Kathmandu was interesting as there was no one to meet me at the airport. I had heaps of people pestering me for taxi rides and others trying to help (i think) but I wasnt sure who to trust. Anyway I found out the hotel had forgotten to pick me up so I had to taxi there myself. Hotel is very basic but apparently one of the best here in Kathmandu. Kathmandu is amazing. There are so many cars and it seems like there are no ... read more

Well im in Bangkok. Flight was good - good but long. I watched 4 movies - Juno, The Nanny Diaries, Empire of the Sun (an old movie about a British boy during the war in Japan) and Bee Movie. Enjoyed all of them.Had some yummy meals - first serving was marrinated fish, beef stew kind of thing with rice and veges, apple crumble and cheese and crackers. Then serving was chicken noodle with veges and fresh fruit and cookies then a ham sandwitch just before we landed. Rhiannons friends Matt and Tammy were a bit up the plane from me so we took turns going to visit each other and stretch our legs. I also went to the toilet heaps - toilets on planes are soooo cool!! Bit confusing when I parted from Matt and Tammy ... read more
