Australia here we come!

On Friday 14 January I will fly from Amsterdam to Melbourne and that is when I will start my worldtrip😊

First I will go for 3 months (14 January-14 April) to Australia: starting in Melbourne, then to Tasmania, back to Melbourne, up north to Cairns and then
from 10-14 January to Uluru (Ayers Rock). On 14 April I will fly from Melbourne to Christchurch and will stay first 3 weeks on the southern island of New Zealand and then 3 weeks on the northern island of New Zealand. After that I will fly on 27 May from Auckland to Nadi and I will be in Fiji for 6 days. From Nadi I will fly to Bangkok and then I will travel in Thailand (Chang Mai, Ko Phi Phi, Ko Tao, Ko Samui and Ko Phangan) until the 29th of June. On 29 June I will fly from Bangkok to Surabaya and I will be in Indonesia (Java, Bali and the Gili islands) until 26 July. On 26 July I will fly from Bali to Singapore and I will stay there until the 29th of July.
On 29 July I will fly from Singapore back to Amsterdam and will stay in the Netherlands until 3 August, because on that day I will fly to Johannesburg and I will travel in South-Africa (Kruger Park, Cape Town) until 2 September.

In total I will be traveling for about 8 months😊

Thursday 4 August: Ester and me arrived at 7.35 am at O.R.Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg. There we got picked up by someone from Mbizi Backpackers Lodge in Boksburg. When we arrived at the hostel we were shocked. The hostel was surrounded by high fences like all the other houses in the neighbourhood. This is because Johannesburg is one of the world’s most dangerous cities. We went inside the hostel and dropped our bags in our room. A black lady showed us around and after that we walked with our driver to an ATM to pay him. We walked back to the hostel and met a German guy, called Christof, who was staying in the hostel too. We had toast with Nutella and tea for breakfast and decided to go to the Apartheid Museum in Soweto ... read more

Thursday 2 June: I arrived in Sydney at 11.40 am and my flight to Bangkok would leave at 4.55 pm so I had some time to kill. I had 50 Australian dollars left from my time in Australia and I wanted to spend them on a new bag or trimmer at duty free. Stupid enough I forgot to put the money in my hand luggage in Nadi (Fiji) so I couldn’t access it in Sydney. I went to Mc Donald’s for some food and there was free Wi-Fi so I went on the internet. Then the plane left at 4.55 pm and I arrived in Bangkok at Suvarnabhumi International Airport at 11.15 pm. I got my luggage and Joella was already waiting for me. We went outside and I immediately felt that is was very humid. ... read more

Wednesday 25 May: I arrived in Nadi at 4 pm and at the airport I met a Dutch guy called Wolf who I already met at the Park Travellers’Lodge in Tongariro National Park in New Zealand. We walked to the baggage claim, got our baggage and walked to Awesome Adventures Fiji where I booked a 6 days/7 nights/4 islands package called the Ultimate Lei. All transfers/accommodation and meals (breakfast/lunch/dinner)were included and because I chose the Full Monty package also all my activities were included. I also took some extra Fijian dollars to be able to buy some extra drinks or food at the islands. Then Wolf and me were picked up by a taxi that took us to our hostel in Nadi called Aquarius situated next to the beach. We checked in and ordered a pizza ... read more

Monday 9 May: we arrived in Wellington around 5 pm. I was staying in Base the next 4 nights, but was going to have dinner with Johan (Swe) and Carlos (Eng) first. Johan is a chief cook and he promised me that he was going to cook for me before he was flying out of Auckland the next day. First we walked to Downtown Backpackers which was a hostel very close to the ferry. When they were checked in we did grocery shopping and started cooking. Johan was making steak with mushroom/white wine sauce, roasted potatoes out of the oven and a salad with cucumber, tomato, feta, lettuce, avocado, red onion and carrots for us. Carlos and me helped with the cooking and were both watching Johan’s cooking skills all the time, because we are both ... read more

Saturday 16 April: I slept until 9.30 am, because I arrived very late the night before. I went down to the reception, paid my accomodation for Saturday and Sunday and asked what I could do during the day in Christchurch. There was not much to do in Christchurch, because the city was destroyed by an earthquake as most of you know. I walked to an ATM, made a reservation for later that day (2 pm) at the haircutter and walked to the Westfield Mall in Riccarton to do grocery shopping. On my way to Westfield Mall I stopped at Drexels for a nice American breakfast (toast with jam, fresh orange juice and an omelet with cheese, bacon and mushrooms). I still had 50 Australian dollars and wanted to see how much New Zealand dollars I would ... read more

Wednesday 23 March: We arrived at 2.25 am in Airlie Beach and we walked from the Greyhound bus stop to our hostel called Base and we had to call the security so they could open the door for us and they gave us the room keys. When I opened the room of the dorm I saw my Canadian friend Mike which I met in Hervey Bay before. We talked about our Fraser Island trip and went to bed. Thursday 24 March: We had breakfast, went on the internet and picked up our tickets for Whitsundays from Oz Sail. They told us there was a probem with the engine from our original boat Freight Train, that's why they put us on Matador. We went to the Lagoon, which is a giant swimming pool close to the beach. ... read more

Sunday 6 March: Eefje and me arrived at the Transit Centre in Brisbane at 2.25 pm. We packed our backpacks and went to KFC, because we were very hungry. Then we walked to our hostel called Base which was located in the city centre. We checked in, dropped our backpacks and met Merel (the Dutch girl we met at the beach in Surfers Paradise) at our hostel. She studies and lives in Brisbane and showed us around the city. We walked through the main shopping street called Queenstreet, over Victoria Bridge and then she showed us Southbank, a cheap cinema and Westend. Then Eefje and me went back to ate noodles at our hostel and in the evening I went for a walk towards the Valley and New Farm where most bars and nightclubs are. Monday ... read more

On Monday 14 February we watched the movie Eurotrip and then Ryan (an Australian friend of Thuur) drove Eefje, Thuur, Clint (another Dutch friend of Thuur) and me around Newcastle for some sightseeing. We went for a walk to the Wharf, then Ryan drove us around Newcastle Beach, Nobby’s Beach and Bar Beach and we had a late lunch at a place where they had fantastic burgers, called Grill’d. Then we went to Woolworths (supermarket we visit the most in Australia), where we did our grocery shopping. We drove back to campus and Thuur and me played tennis. In the evening we went to a student party where they played sex trivial and after that we went to an afterparty at Abbots (another campus). Hello everyone, After more than a month I thought it would ben nice to share some new experiences with you. On Tuesday 1 February we went to the State Libary, I worked on my travelblog, booked a tour for the MCG(Melbourne Cricket Ground) and the Eureka Tower (highest tower in the Southern Hemasphere) At 2.45 pm I did the MCG tour. A guide showed me around in the biggest Cricket and Australian Rules Football Stadium in Australia. He showed me the pitch, the fitness area, the training facilities, the changing rooms and the different stands. After that we went back to the Library and I booked my ticket with Air Asia from Bangkok to Yogyakarta and the Greyhound bus from Melbourne to Canberra. Half an hour before sunset we went to the Eureka Tower to go ... read more
