| 29th June 2009 Mommeee | Awesome - From: IndoWhat?! Wow - great to read about your adventure as usual. The world is very big, and I am thrilled that you are grabbing what you can - visually, introspectively, and with/in each new experience. I am reading your earlier blogs again and enjoying the read......Be safe dear son, and know that I love you & think of you every day. |
| 29th June 2009 gregor haupilopogus | hay - From: IndoWhat?! Hi Brad! I love your description of Kuta Beach (the bustling part)! I picture a cross between an Indiana Jones movie, and a Jason Bourne movie. Did you happen to see James Bond being chased on a motorbike? Do the 'friendly shop owners' speak english? Does the beach resemble a California beach at all? Or no? I love it when fire dancers show up while I'm eating dinner. WOW.. kite-surfing sounds tremendously hard. I picture how nervous I am going down a steep mountain with a snowboard... not wanting to catch an edge... HOLY CRAP! Those Garden Eels are awesome looking! Nice pictures! How is that Olympus working out? You're not actually using the flash, are you? |
| 17th June 2009 Kristi | - From: Best job in the world application next time we should leave at 4 am! Hurray for spontaneous adventure~ |

Last Sun & Tues there were 5.0/5.7 earthquakes in Guatemala and last night, Wed, there was the 1st tropical storm, Alma, blowing through Nicaragua. I'm looking at the weather map. You're headed for Costa Rica in a few days, so hope you've got clear skies and only tropical breezes. You two Fotschs are very powerful when you're together. Adios mi amigos. |
| 26th May 2008 Kelly | Surgeon General's Warning: Foam+Party=Fungas - From: Foam parties, Blue Hole and Whale Sharks Foam parties are not sterile. There is humanpandonkeydonk fungus everywhere. If mysterious circular patches show up any where on your body, see a medical professional promptly. |
| 24th May 2008 Jenny | Blue Hole? - From: Foam parties, Blue Hole and Whale Sharks Wait, that picture "Blue Hole from Above" - what exactly am I looking at? It looks like a picture taken from space, but I'm pretty sure that's one adventure you guys HAVEN'T done on this trip... It's a beautiful picture even though I have no clue what it is. I'm so glad you got to see a whale shark! I remember you talking about really wanting to time it to see them, so glad that worked out. Say hi to mom from your blog friends and have fun being treated to some parent travel time after all the roughing it you guys have been doing. Cheers! |
| 23rd May 2008 Jenny | Behind... - From: CAVES! Ok, I'm a bit behind on the blogs but I love this one! | 9th May 2008 Jenny | Smiling - From: Corn Islands Ah, Brad. It's impossible to read these blog entries of yours without SMILING. I know how my brother drives golf carts so I can only imagine there were at LEAST a couple near collisions that didn't make the narrative. I'm glad you guys are finding such wonderfully empty spots - certainly the only way to do that is by NOT planning, which I guess is something you guys are absolute Pros at! Keep having fun and we'll keep enjoying it vicariously through you. |
| 9th May 2008 Tassos | yesssssss!! - From: Corn Islands I think this is my favorite part of your trip so far! |
| 9th May 2008 maurer | amazing - From: Corn Islands to think that I pay well over a $1000 a month to live 3 blocks from an overcrowded, polluted beach...and you got to experience a private paradise for $10 a night.....thats awesome |

| 5th May 2008 greg | adventure extraordinaire - From: Dominical Vs. Newbie USA Surfers + Nicaragua brad... i've been inspired by your adventureness... and so i was thinking about going on an adventure of my own. my travel agent told me that there is this really sweet place in missouri called silver dollar city. apparently there are all kinds of sweet/thrilling/adventure type things there. i thought about taking a month off to go there. let me know if you want to come with me on this sweet adventure. i hope you're celebrating cinco de mayo today. : ) |
| 5th May 2008 Jenny | Multiple Broken Surfboards? - From: Dominical Vs. Newbie USA Surfers + Nicaragua OK, so I know these blog posts are a little bit behind...but why did I think that Scott or someone had already snapped a surfboard before? Was that Dave or someone w/ Dave before you and Scott joined them? If not, then I think I'm having visions of what's happening to you guys before it happens. And in that case, I'm having visions right now of beautiful jewelry being brought back for me from these islands you're heading to... :) Have a great time in the Caribbean and enjoy that beautiful warm turquoise calm water as we deal with the brown/grey wild Pacific back home. Oh, also - we've had very successful VBVB the last two weeks that's involved 20+ people for hours of good times! Stay safe and have fun! |
| 5th May 2008 maurer | FSLN - From: Dominical Vs. Newbie USA Surfers + Nicaragua http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sandinista more pictures! |
| 5th May 2008 Tassos | you forgot - From: Dominical Vs. Newbie USA Surfers + Nicaragua you forgot in your list of things one thinks about Nicaragua, "the great Cornholio"! |
| 2nd May 2008 Kelly | Brad of the Jungle - From: Corcovado You are the only person I know that would wake up at 2 am to go jaguar sight-seeing. I can't wait to see the video!!! Thank you for these totally surreal vignettes. If you ever pursued an alternate career, you could become a reality TV "jungle adventure tour-guide man." We just need to know a little bit more of the romantic subplots happening between fellow adventurers.... |
| 2nd May 2008 maurer | amazing - From: Corcovado agreed with everyone's post...this was the best read so far...really forgot i was reading about someone's live travels and thought i was lost in a story....really awesome stuff man...soo jealous. |
| 1st May 2008 Kury | Wowzers! - From: Corcovado Brad, Your trip sounds awesome! Great photos! Did you organize it all yourself or did you sign up with a travel company? Dave |
| 1st May 2008 Tassos | - From: Corcovado Fantastic Brad! Excellent blogging! Howler monkeys are completely amazing to hear. I hope you got some good audio for us! Keep em' coming. Voyeurs and exhibitionists! |
| 1st May 2008 Mommeeeeeeee | Awesome - From: Corcovado Being the only mom on this blog.....it's hard to exactly "fit in" with the flow here - but I can say I am proud, excited, thrilled with the story and the pics, and amazed with what you write about....also, in mom language..."be careful out there:) Love ya! |
| 30th April 2008 inbetweenanalienabduction | art of storytelling - From: Corcovado wow, you my friend can surley paint a picture. I find myself almost religously following your every move. I pray you continue to run into angels on your journey. ps. dido what jenny said ..keep up the "detailed" blogging, i gotta get my fix! |
| 29th April 2008 jlo | The Jungle Book! - From: Corcovado I totally agree with the above entry, this is my new favorite read! without having to be, and I quote, "Exhausted, dirty, hot, blisters, cuts, bites and all...". What an amazing adventure... You have to bring back a troop of howler monkeys! And Brad, as the pictures prove, you're bringing a dose of double RAWK to jungle! SOOUUUUNNNNNNNDDDDD!!!!! |
| 29th April 2008 John Oakes | Amazing - From: Corcovado I am enjoying your trip so far, thanks for the great documentation. |
| 29th April 2008 Jenny | So Glad... - From: Corcovado It's amazing - I read this entry and it is just so fun. It's like getting lost in a good book, but it's even better b/c it's my friends and family who are the main characters! Just as I begin to feel a bit jealous of your experience, there will be a line about not sleeping/being covered in blisters/sweat and I feel just as happy simply reading about these adventures and not partaking in them. :) Keep up the excellent detailed blogging - it's my new favorite book! |
| 29th April 2008 rae rae | Leave no trace in the rainforest cuties. - From: Mas Agua To my little Ecotourists - Biologically "Intense" basically means - (from the Corcovado Park homepage.) -An isolated zone of biological diversification and endemism. -Home to sustainable populations of large mammals and bird due to large intact roadless areas, lack of navigable rivers, and few resident humans. tourists love parading through it for pleasure but we must take care and leave no trace, so footpaths do not become roads. i'm sure you are both pros at doing such. but not everyone is. i can't wait to hear about what you see. maybe you'll be like Sting and want to save the rainforest when you get back. ;) xoxo - my little conservationists. |
| 28th April 2008 jlo | Rawk to the river - From: Mas Agua It looks like you guys have taken the Colorado River and stepped it up a few notches! If you open an adventure media company, I'll open an american sports bar. Except there will be no sports, just alcohol, pool tables and karaoke. And maybe you, me and Scott can start a band and play there on the weekends. Perfect! |
| 27th April 2008 Tweedie | Country GRILLED Steak????? - From: Mas Agua A sports bar in Costa Rica! That sounds interesting. The rafting looks incredible! And the big trees... I just want to know what's so INTENSE about the biology there.... Oh, and bring it on Maurer! That wooden thingy that Brad is going to buy from some local somewhere is TOTALLY MINE!!!! |
| 27th April 2008 maurer | rafting media company - From: Mas Agua they have party pics on the rapids?!? hells yeah if you want to open up an adventure media company i'm game... "rapids gone wild" |
| 25th April 2008 inbetweenanalienabduction | keep on trucking - From: Waterfalls and Amigos good to know things are going well. at this moment my munchies are kicking in and all i want to know is what to order at this jungle lodge of yours |
| 23rd April 2008 Tassos | The saga begins! - From: Waterfalls and Amigos I wont believe any of this is true until I see pictures and audio. For all I know, you're just hiding under your bed in Venice writing this on your iPhone! |
| 22nd April 2008 Jade | bravo to adventures! - From: Waterfalls and Amigos Brad! Wow you're on the road again! The travel plan sounds awesome! Can't want to see some pictures :) Have a great time!! |
| 22nd April 2008 maurer | don't eat strange leaves - From: Ven Conmigo! in response to tassos....happiness only real when not killed by eating leaves..."please stick to the rivers and lakes that you're used to"...(starts off the battle for the souvenier with a TLC quote...bring it Tweedie) |
| 22nd April 2008 kelly | deep jungle - From: Waterfalls and Amigos be careful in the deep jungle. lions and tigers and bears... |

| 22nd April 2008 Tyler | dirty hippie music! - From: Ven Conmigo! sounds pretty cool in quad. i can almost smell the grimy dreadlocks and nag champa. |
| 22nd April 2008 Jenny | Hooray! - From: Waterfalls and Amigos I'm glad you all met up successfully - I knew you would! Those things always just tend to work out like that. :) And it sounds like your trip is off to a REALLY fun start. Dave and I actually went canyoning together in Switzerland several years ago and had a blast doing it, so glad you had fun too. I particularly liked the part where the German guides were telling us the exact positions we needed to jump through the rocks and into the pools of water in so that we wouldn't hurt ourselvses - lots of trust involved in all these adventures! Anyways, glad you're all together and give Dave a big hug from me. |
| 22nd April 2008 raena | sweet! - From: Waterfalls and Amigos I'm hanging on your every word. What fantastic times you are having. Post more. |

| 5th May 2007 anonymous | - From: La Mitad del Mundo Just reading your final blg during my break. WOW. I would love to go there! I agreed with Megan about the rich dudes poor dudes. There're lots and lots of beautiful things in the world that may not cost lots of money, but make us feel so rich and full and happy. I am really happy for you that you went for this trip and were able to share those marvelous stories and cool pictures with us! That's really awesome! |
| 19th April 2007 Jeff | Midnight cowboy... - From: La Mitad del Mundo Great pics as usual! Love the crater lake and market shots... When you get back, were going out for guinea pig. there's gotta be a place in LA that serves it. Oh yeah, when you see another loud, idiotic, American tourist, do all of us a favor and give him a good smack. =) Rock-Rockus-REBELLION! |
| 17th April 2007 Tassos | Really? - From: La Mitad del Mundo Holy cow! You're going to be in the Galapagos for this week? I'll be there too! How amazing! You know, I hear that if you look at the wildlife close enough, you can actually see it evolving right before your eyes! But it's pointless for other living things to try. No matter how much they evolve we're way better than all of them! ... or are we? |
| 17th April 2007 anonymous | - From: Warm-Up Adventure I miss you! I miss you! I sure do miss ya! |
| 16th April 2007 becca | - From: Jungles are better than Computers what exactly does "deal with pregnancy" mean in the amazon? just curious... |
| 16th April 2007 Megan | rich dudes, poor dudes - From: La Mitad del Mundo I've found, generally speaking, the cheapest people tend to be the richest. Just like the richest people tend to complain the loudest about being broke. Those spa treatments and designer handbags are a necessity, dontcha know. Anyway, imagine how much awesomer your adventure clubbing could be if you could do more than, like, trot a horse. Well, it'd be difficult for it to be awesomer than the Galapagos, but you know what I mean. Galloping full speed, winding through a wooded trail, uphill and down with random logs to leap over and streams to splash through... yeah dude. |
| 15th April 2007 bird del mundo | concise - From: La Mitad del Mundo the equator pics rock. |
| 12th April 2007 Momeeee | EEEEKS - From: Mountain Dancing Can't believe it - this is a lot for a mom to absorb. |
| 12th April 2007 Tony | catching up... - From: Mountain Dancing I have been busy lately, but catching up with your adventures provided a refreshing break from the hectic ups and downs of the kilt market. Lets see some pics from the salsa club :) Tony |
| 12th April 2007 Tassos | yup - From: Mountain Dancing You know, after those kids couldn't catch up with you, I wonder if they paused for a moment and thought to themselves... "Isn't this just metaphor for the Ecuadorian and U.S. economies? They are moving on their technology and screaming 'mas rapido', but we're on foot and they know and we know that there's no way we're going to catch up with them". I think that's probably what they were thinking. |
| 11th April 2007 Birdliness | Sick! - From: Mountain Dancing I wish i could have come... looks amazing! |
| 11th April 2007 kelly | personal update/sweaty dancin' - From: Mountain Dancing I get to sit in on a color grading session at Efilm (w/Yvon- babbel, amelie, the pianist) tomorrow! Yippy! I think I will go to Riles Jazz club in Boston and get me some sweaty salsa dancing with Cuban men!- I just realized that the title of my comment is misleading... |
| 11th April 2007 Jeff | quad rock indeed... - From: Mountain Dancing Two hot springs in the space of one month? Brad, your living the dream... |
| 11th April 2007 Scott | hmmm - From: Mountain Dancing Okay...so what is up with the dude who always has a bandanna covering his face? Sketchy! |
| 10th April 2007 kelly | making noises with kids - From: Jungles are better than Computers Hiya B-Rad. Its funny how I keep trying to draw parallels so that I feel like we are symbiotic... but I have been working on making really kooky sound effects while babysitting. Beyond that, I've got nothing on you. I look foward to reading more about your travels! |
| 10th April 2007 Paul | Great writing hombre! - From: Jungles are better than Computers I feel like I'm there with you, minus the humidity and mosquitos. |
| 9th April 2007 Jeff | Bringing RAWK to the jungle... - From: Jungles are better than Computers Brad, This blog is the best thing ever! You rule! Your trip looks amazing, and I hope all is well. =) Salto! |

| 7th April 2007 kelly | your name is "weeny bikini" - From: My Name is Mud hiya weeny. (I just thought it would be funny). sending besos. |
| 7th April 2007 Tassos | Oh yeah well I saw Dave Chappelle tonight!! - From: My Name is Mud He's got nothing on Ecuador, but he will make you laugh until you cry no question. Firstly, I think it's amazing that you're posting these pictures, because I was just going over your blog today and scouring Quito and the rest of Ecuador on Google Earth (which by the way is probably the highest form of human achievement thus far). I dont even know why you spent all that money, GE is basically the same thing. Secondly, you could have named that picture with you in the hot spring "JC makes a second appearance". Thirdly, dont let foreigners tell you how to pronounce your name!! Besides the fact that they're foreign and they hate freedom, a lot of times the english pronunciation of "foreign" words is different. I learned this when everyone in my english class (including Mr Weiss - and who's going to argue with Mr Weiss) pronounced Odysseus, "O' diss eee us", instead of "O the say us". Anyway I'm so fucking jealous of you right now that I just might steal your stuff when I stay at your apartment this week. At the very least, I'll masturbate on your pillow. How's that for friendship? I guess that's the price you pay for joining the freedom haters and not standing by the good ol' stars and stripes. Lots of love asshole. -T |
