” The voyage of discovery is not seeking new landscapes but having new eyes. Marcel Proust “ January 26, Wednesday Fishing Day meant an early “get-up”. I made the lunches and Bob went to purchase the bait, squid and shrimp, and Rob was already cleaning up the boat. All aboard and off we went on a beautiful calm sunny morning. Floyd was my fishing tutor and Bob worked with Rob. The rods were big and at first a little awkward. The first stop was to “catch more bait” and that we did. ” Everything is connected to everything else” Aldo Leopold January 23, Sunday. After breakfast, and Mass, we found a lovely motel/suite to “veg-out” and watch the Super Bowl play-offs. The Continental Inn is located in Marathon, at the Key Colony on the West Oceanside, just beautiful. Key Colony is a small island and very walkable with magnificent mansions, hotels, and condos. Bob was “bummed-out” with the performance of the Steelers. [View Full Entry]

January 19, Wednesday All truly great thoughts are conceived while hiking------- Nietzsche Arriving at the Everglades we stopped at the Visitor’s Center for an overview of the park. Bob got his passport stamped. National Parks Passport Bob has a passport from the National Park Service, which can be purchased at any of the parks. Every time we go near a National Parks, Monument etc., he likes to get it stamped to show we have been there. The Park service also issues a set of picture stamps from di [View Full Entry]

“If I wait for perfect conditions I'll never begin Plan for what is difficult while it is easy, do what is great while it is small.” Sun Tzu January 21, 2005, Friday. Before leaving the Everglades, we stopped at the Anhinga Trail, a photo heaven. It was bursting with birds and ‘gators, as well as bird watchers and photographers. Our next stop is the Keys, and John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park. We hoped to stay here, but it seems people make reservations a year in advance. So we took a trip into the mangroves by kayak and fo [View Full Entry]

January 13, 2005, Thursday. We drove a “Bob road” all day, the Scenic and Historic Coastal Byway A1A this follows the coastline, for the most part. In St. Augustine, we looked for the Fountain of Youth, but alas no luck. It was a warm beautiful day as we drove along the beaches and observed obvious hurricane damage. The day ended in Titusville just outside Canaveral. The campground had a wireless connection to the internet, this was a great find. When traveling one can just sit at a picnic table and connect! January 8, 2005, Saturday. Our destination today is a fun trip to Lazy 5 Ranch. We took a horse drawn cart, with buckets of food for the animals. The “Lazy 5” is chock full of hungry animals: water buffalo, giraffes, goats, pigs, deer, etc. etc. It was a neat place for the young and the “young at heart”. January 9, 2005, Sunday. Off we go to Savannah. We had reservations at Skidaway Island State Park, a few miles SE of Savannah. We managed to get in a short bike ride along a nature trail before dark. January 5, 2005, Wednesday. We left Pittsburgh and started our trek south. The most significant weather factor was rain, rain, and more rain. Our first stop was Pipestem Resort State Park in West Virginia. We were the only campers. January 6, 2005, Thursday. After scouting the park, it was decided that Pipestem had good reason to be called a resort. The facilities included horseback riding, golf course, tennis, two lodges, and even a cable car to bring folks down the canyon to the second lodge. A stop at the nature-center, sent us the County Line Trail for a hike out to [View Full Entry]
