My initial impression of Maui is, less traffic, no high-rise hotels, and more rustic. As we arrived the clouds were hanging over the mountains, the trade winds blowing and a light rain was falling. A great hero is buried here.
The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only a page. --Augustine (354-430) February 16,2005 Wednesday This will probably be our last day of sightseeing. We were up early and the first stop was Mt. Woodall, the highest point in Mississippi, 806 feet. It is located at the northeast corner of MS. It was a drive up point, so no hiking was necessary. After breakfast we were on our way to Shiloh, a National Monument Park, in southwest Tennessee. At the Visitor’s center we watched a video describing the bloody battle that to [View Full Entry]

It is good to have an end to journey towards, but it is the journey that matters in the end. --Ursula K. LeGuin February 15, 2005, Tuesday. It was a foggy morning, as we drove the “trace” and stopped at Mississippi Craft Center. We continued driving to the French Camp, a public “religious” academy. In this village, we had lunch outdoors with homemade bread for our sandwich and soup, a neat place. The trace is slow, did I say 50 mph? It isvery beautiful and scenic for 10, 20, 30 even 40 miles but…&he [View Full Entry]

I love to travel, But hate to arrive --Albert Einstein February 13, 2005, Sunday. This was a travel day and it rained and rained. This is perhaps the heaviest rain day since we left Pittsburgh early in January. We drove from bayou country, LA, to Natchez, MS. Natchez was our destination because of the well know bike trail. It runs over 400 miles from Natchez, MS to Nashville, TN. The Natchez and Choctaw Indians used this “trace” for hunting and later this same path was used by the merchants that floated their goods down the Missi [View Full Entry]

The most important trip you may take in life is meeting people halfway. --Henry Boye February 11, Friday. We decided to take a cooking class at 10AM and learn about the wonderful jambalaya, shrimp pie and banana Forster. For $20 it was a bargain, we received the recipe, watched it being made and eat a wonderful meal. After our cooking class, we wandered through the Riverwalk mall. We decided to take the taxi ferry over to Algiers Point, across the Mississippi. Mardi Gras World has all of the floats from many Mardi Gras’ on display and t [View Full Entry]

The rewards of the journey far outweigh the risk of leaving the harbor. --Unknown February 10, Thursday. Happy Birthday to you! Happy Birthday dear Booobbbb…….(Just be glad you don’t have to hear me sing!) After the birthday boy opened his presents, we were on our way to New Orleans. The morning portion of the tour included a drive complete with narration from one end of town to the other. Meanwhile we were making notes on where we wanted to return on foot.
