search of the Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center and Fort Mandan. The interpretive center is an impressive log structure with many artifacts, and a history of the Clark Family, as well as artwork. The Corp of Discovery constructed Fort Mandan as a winter home during their stay here in 1804-05. Built entirely of cottonwood trees, seven rooms housed the men of the Lewis and Clark Expedition. It was interesting to see the rooms, the buffalo blankets, fireplaces and clothing. (I didn’t realize they had uniforms to wear, but they were military.) Our home for tonight was Sakakawea State [View Full Entry]

St John Abbey Saint John’s Bible St John’s Abbey tour June 20, 2007. For the last three days we have been at a Winnebago dealer and a Dodge/Chrysler shop. So we will skip the gory details, no big deal and move-on. There is a lovely trail along the Mississippi that leads to the Munsinger/Clemens Gardens. It is a lovely area in St. Cloud, my favorite was the ros [View Full Entry]

Root River Trail Maureen Kelly/Robert Tait "Experience is what you get when you don't get what you wanted" Rushford was a start point for the Root River Preston Valley State Trail. The bike trails in MN are free, so no pass is needed. The trail is paved and follows the Root River for 42 miles; then connects to the Harmony Preston Valley Trail for another 18 miles. As we biked along this beautiful valley we crossed lots of bridges over the Root River and its tributaries. The weather has been hot—85 yesterday, [View Full Entry]

Bicycling capital of America Maureen Kelly/Robert Tait The Elroy-Sparta Wisconsin State Trail was the first “rails to trails” established in the country. The trail is 32 miles in length on the abandoned Chicago-Northwestern Railroad bed, it passes through three rock tunnels. In Wisconsin trail passes are required for bikers 16 years of age or older. The cost is $4.00 per day or $15.00 for the season. We camped at the Tunnel Trail Campground right on the trail. Since it is Sunday, we took advantage of the Wilt [View Full Entry]

Taliesin Maureen Kelly/Robert Tait This is my first time in Wisconsin, and I am impressed with the farms and rolling hills. Things just move a bit slower here it seems. Spring Green, Wisconsin was our destination. Our first stop was Frank Lloyd Wright’s (FLW) Visitor’s Center/restaurant. This structure was designed by FLW to be a restaurant. After considering our options, we decided on the longest tour, the estate Tour (four hours), for tomorrow. We browsed through the town of Spring Green, Wisconsin and c [View Full Entry]

Bike path Maureen Kelly/Robert Tait Our objective on this trip is to visit Wisconsin, Minnesota, Manitoba, and Saskatchewan (places we have not been to) and do lots of biking hiking and whatever else. June 6, 2007. We were up early, all packed and a dead battery, oops. Sooo we left a little later after a visit from AAA, but before long we were at Cuyahoga Valley, Ohio, biking the tow path trail which follows the historic Ohio and Erie canal route through the Cuyahoga River Valley and continues both north and south of t [View Full Entry]

El Dorado Royale El Dorado Royale The El Dorado Royale is an all-inclusive resort. As we arrived, a clerk offered us a warm towel and a chilled glass of champagne -then we registered. Since the room was not quite ready, we went for brunch. It was impressive with everything imaginable. This place is opulent. Each room has a Jacuzzi. After settling in, we were off to the pool---it has a swim-up-bar. There are poo [View Full Entry]

On our way to Playa del Carmen we stopped at The Fisherman’s Sunset. This was the “promo” offered by the car rental for $200.00 off the rental fee. This was our first experience and it was to take 90 minutes for an intro and sales pitch. They were trying to sell us a membership at this exclusive resort. If you ever hear about The Fisherman’s Sunset, run…. do not walk, far away. What started friendly turned high pressure and even nasty. Needless to say we did not buy a thing. How many ways to say”NO!” Onward we go to Playa [View Full Entry]
