Constrasting experience in Bangladesh In contrast to this story, I should mention my trip via Bangladesh in ths time frame. I am also an oustider visiting this country.
My visit to Bangladesh was a breeze of fresh air. The staff were great and I didn;t get hit with dozens of paranoid security checks.. people aint paranoid here about terrorsim like in the states.
Anyways, I had a great experience at the airport. Too bad the writer here did not, perhaps because they were a dimwit, noticeable when Dhaka was beleievd to be a part of India. And how stupid can someone be when they mention that "Biman Bangladesh Airlines" is the national carirer for nepal? it's Royal Nepal Airlines you goof.
someone is really retarded... talk about a clown...
May 1 entry What will we look forward to reading now? Susan Pigg, T.O. Star Travel writer, will be good for insomnia after reading your travel sagas.
It was an interesting, colourful, squeamish, frightening, character building, people mingling 6 months and you will never forget it.
Now it's time to come back and settle in to the real time of daily life in Toronto and get your tan by cutting the grass. We look forward to seeing you and having you home.

You're amazing. Keep up the cool blogs and have a fantastic rest lof your trip. We really enjoy reading about your adventures on Everest and otheres. Hope you make it home safely. Love Aunt Barb and Uncle Bruce and Gram and Gramp.
Bonker, What an amazing adventure...every blog I read I get more and more jealous!! We'll have to sit down one day when you get back to go over some details so I can head over there one day too!! Look forward to your next blog....not sure where you're going next....maybe china, mongolia, or india??? Enjoy every moment of your trip!!

The SOO!!! I bet I'm the only one reading this blog who knows the exact size of the Sault Ste Marie airport. Although I realize you may have been poking fun at it, it's cool it made the blog. I will be visiting that airport when I finally arrive home on May 8th. Hillary and Aimee just arrived today for an 8 day visit in London and it's been so nice to see some familiar faces after 7 months away from home. What you're plan? Are you ever going home? From the sounds of it you're having an amazing time and you shouldn't go home until absolutely have to. Bye for now.
Good One! I know how you drag your ass around a golf course so I couldn't imagine you climbing Everest.
The climb to base camp will be awesum just the same. Have fun and be safe.

Got me! Hey Jer! It's been a LOOOOOONG time since MAC! I just kinda stumbled upon your blog and have only had the opportunity to read your last one about how you planned on climing Everest! Well you got me! I was sitting in awe of your courage and determination and craziness and I get to the bottom and "Gotcha Ya"! Thanks Jer! Anyways I plan on reading all of your other blogs so I'm sure I'll have to comment on them along the way. I'm just about to finish nursing school in 3 week so things here are a bit crazy! Stef is well...teaching French and Religion in highschool....I have been keeping in touch with Dave and Mario lately thanks to the devil facebook! but its good when you get to catch up with people! Well take care on your way half way up Everest! and I'll be looking out for your next entry! Christina
Been there, done that! Jer! So exciting that you are doing the Everest trek! I spent a month in Nepal in 2001 on an environmental volunteer project in the Evererst region. I got out just 2 days before the entire royal family was murdered and the country went into military lockdown. Hopefully everything stays calm while you are there!
You are probably well on your way by now, but if I had to give you some advice it would be to avoid eating in the little village bakeries on the way UP the mountain... you will be inhaling/injesting a whole lot of yack dung in the air, and your system needs to adjust (sometimes unpleasantly!) to this before your body can handle eating baked goods made with local water. Over 95% of the water samples my team collected while we were along the Everest trail tested positive for fecal contamination! You will see lovely outhouses built directly out over the rivers. Not so S-M-R-T. (:
If you spend a few days in Namche Bazaar, which you likely will, ask what the villagers do with their solid waste for me! I'm interested to see if they continued using a waste incineration pit we dug in partnership with our Nepalese trek team for the village while we were there.
You will also love Tengboche... home to the world's highest monastery... hopefully you get to take a day hike upwards from there and get some shots of the monastery from above. The Rimpoche there is also very involved in local environmental issues... he's one cool monk!
Finally, the day of your trek up to base camp, take lots of pictures along the way.... there is one great ridge you walk along overlooking the icefields for this. By the time we actually got to camp, all the clouds had rolled in and we couldn't see a mountain for the life of us. But then again we were also all delirious from the lack of oxygen!
Have fun!
Amy
Thanks a lot for telling me that it was an april fools joke in the email you sent me! I went around telling everyone that u were going all the way... lol
Hey don't count on that fist place finish just yet bro... I'm gunning for ya. Looks like you've been having a blast... when are you going to be in Cambodia? I'll be there the beginning of April in Sihanoukville.
BTW Pope and I won't be back to Phuket until the April 29th
Laos The country Laos sounds beautiful and inviting. I'm glad you had a nice day on the river tubing. The zip ride sounds like the old swing the rope across the pond and drop! What fun! Sorry Josh wasn't in his element bowling. The markets sound interesting and I'm looking forward to seeing the suits that you had made. I'm glad you are being careful.

vicarious traveler- so so jealous Hey I'm Angie, just a random girl who found your journal while researching my own Aus adventure. You sound like you're having such an incredible trip, I'm so jealous and so excited for my own! Keep writing!
Angie
GOON! Jer! You found the goon...oh gosh do I ever miss that stuff. After reading your blog I think you can now understand how weird it was for me to make the transition from Oz to Kiwi land. I do have one question though...did you have a glass of goon in your hand while writing this blog? Because if I'm not mistaken QueensTOWN is here in New Zealand and QueensLAND is the state you you are in now. Haha. I'm so happy that you are living it up Aussie style, it sounds like you are having an amazing time. I'm flying to Malaysia in 4 days...gearing up for the biggest transition of them all! Keep in touch. Heather
