Bonice - Bonnie Robertson Hill

Bonnie Robertson Hill I travel for business and if you're not careful this can mean not travelling at all... Being someone who really never understood the concept of package holiday (package anything for that matter) I have always wanted to travel. For me travelling is to live in new places and experience them, even if just for a few days... Maybe its because I was born and raised in the most geographically remote capital city on Earth? ... Apart from that, I am a business woman and Australian Migration Law Consultant and recovering political hack. I live in Perth, Western Australian near the beach. I am a UK citizen but will make my first journey to that homeland's shores next month. I have a wonderful partner, Boban, who shares my passions in life; 4 individual and inquisitive children; and two dogs.

London.... I have had built this up to the status of legend... since I was a young girl my grandmother would sit and tell me all the tales of her childhood... In April this year I finally gained my British Citizenship... And now, I have come home, so to speak... Its so big its difficult to describe and anything I write is inadequate. Whilst other cities have scenic vistas, London is in totality... And its huge, and bustling, and bright... Please enjoy the photos.... [View Full Entry]

Smoking for your health?

 Europe » Serbia » West » Belgrade
Belgrade is smoky... Its the last bastion of political incorrectness in a world of micro-anti-viral same-ness... I have a theory why they smoke though... Its very clever (thank you, thank you...) it's to prevent lead poisoning. Yes, thats right. You see the traffic is so damn congested and hazardessly toxic-fume enhanced, that by reducing their lung capacities with smoking it reduces their exposure to the traffic fumes. I could be wrong though, maybe its just they enjoy the double entendre of asking someone if they want to smoke? (do you remember the Hugh Grant incident???) Actually its [View Full Entry]

Architectural detail in Belgrade

Arrived yesterday after horror flight from Milan - only an hour but Alitalia pilot seemed to think being Italian made him a Fagio or something... He was turning circles (after take-off - did he forget which way to fly???) and tipping plane sideways from left to right and generally acting as if he was dodging birds migrating south... Belgrade has freshened up in the 3 years I've been gone. The airport is a little crisper (although some bright paint might make it a little more welcoming) and Passport Control have learnt please and thank you and to smile. Biggest change - [View Full Entry]

Night tour of Belgrade

 Europe » Serbia » West » Belgrade
In Australia, streets in most towns and cities become deserted at night... The rest of the world comes out to party after the sun goes down and in Belgrade this happens with gusto and style! This town is pumping and never shuts down. Its also very walkable and there are cafes and bars every two steps... just in case you are hungry, thirsty or both. Enjoy the tour... Some memories too for my Boban... Please excuse some blurring - I had to use a very slow shutter to get the night shots... [View Full Entry]

Egypt is an Islamic country, something which is sometimes difficult to reconcile with the Western understanding of this ancient land of heiroglyphics, Phaorahs, and pyramids... It's also a very Christian country, with a historical connection to the Judeo-Christian tradition and a strong Coptic community. Copts are Orthodox Christians not dissimilar to Russian, Greek and Serbian Orthodox Churches... We quickly discovered the Egyptians to be a gregarious and friendly people, who absolutely adore children and were bemused by the fact we'd left our four at home on this trip... Cairo is a cit [View Full Entry]

Boban and the Nile
My partner Boban Durmic and the Nile, the stuff of legends...
My first adventure overseas, 10 years after I was due to leave Australia I finally made it through the International Terminal at Perth and into a new understanding of the world... I had meant to go to the UK the month I finished highschool, but then postponed to work and earn some money. Then I went to University (just one year - then I'll take off before finishing), then I got involved in politics, then marriage and children and divorce... Finally, with a new partner, I was going to travel. I'd travelled a lot in Australia, even worked in Parliament House [View Full Entry]
