It's been a pretty good last couple days. Tue night I went to game night with Matt. That was a lot of fun. We joined a bunch of other international students and played 'Activity'. It's a word game. A player from a team has to draw a card. On the card are a bunch of compound words, the player then has to describe the word, do sharades or draw (depending on what space they're on on the board) and get their teammates to guess the word before the time runs out. It was kinda hard to play, since all of our German was at different levels and sometimes the vocabulary just wasn't there. It was sooo much fun though=) Not much exciting to say about yesterday. In the afternoon, I was going to play piano ... read more

Today was a pretty good day. Met more people and am starting to get to know more from my language course. Two more students were added to my class, another from Belgium and a student from Argentina. The language lesson was ok, not really all that interesting, but oh well. Katrin joined my friends and me for lunch in the Mensa (dinning hall). That was nice. I may be going out with her and her friends to some bars tomorrow night. We'll see. After lunch my group had to go to the AOK to prove that we have health insurance. While there I was talking to Rachel (the other American in my group) in German. One of the German students helping us asked me where I was from. She looked quite suprised when I told ... read more

Well, today was the first day of my language class. I have mixed feelings about it. There are 17 people in my class (and I made it into the Oberstuffe... upper level =) ). There are students from the US, France, Italy, Estonia, Denmark, Greece, Romainia and Hungary. That's pretty cool. The kinda sucky thing though, is that they all knew somebody arlready in the class and today everyone stayed with their friends (so that left me pretty much to myself). Also, the French and the Belgians are always talking amongst themselves in French. When they start doing that the others start talking amongst themselves in their native languages which makes for a very boring break. Oh well, I'm hoping it'll get better. Today class wasn't difficult. I'm not having any trouble understanding anything. That's a ... read more

What a fun weekend it's been. Fri. I took my language placement exam for orientation. Beginning Mon. we'll be divided into groups of around 20 students depending on language ability for the rest of the three week orientation. In the evening Matt and Jaime came over to my place for dinner. It was a delicious dinner. We had planned to watch a movie, but we were having such a great time just hanging out, we never did get to the movie. Sat. Jaime, Matt and I took the bus into the city and walked around for a while. We then found a place for lunch and had Dörners (Gyros)..... ahhh, they're sooooo good. It was the first one I'd had since being back in Germany. We walked around a little more, just looking at the ... read more

Last night was a lot of fun. All of us internation students participating in the orientation went to dinner. The dinner wasn't anything special, but it also consisted of wine tasting =). This region (as I may have already mentioned) is like the Napa Valley of Germany. It's wine country so each table had a few bottles of different wines from Trier. All of them were white wines and were pretty good. Jaime, Matt and I sat with a girl from Belgium (don't know how to spell her name yet) and Mosuku from Japan. Both are very nice. Sitting at the table right next us was a group from Istanbul. =) It was cool to get to talk with them. They were very nice. It was a fun evening of just getting to know people. ... read more

I now have access to the internet!!!!! =) =) Yesterday while I was walking around campus I found the library, but I couldn't find the entrance (they're remodeling so it's a little confusing). Today, however, I found it (or rather it was shown to me). I checked into my international student orientation this morning. I got the password and everything for me to log onto the internet around campus. The library is practically right next to where I'm living, so it's not going to be any problem to check my mail regularly. This morning I also ran into Matt and Jaime from Hamline. Matt lives in one of the other Tarforst (my Wohnheim) buildings and Jaime lives on the floor below mine (in fact, we can see into eachothers rooms) =). We had lunch together (first ... read more

(typing this on Oct. 6th) I've never felt so overwhelmed and lonely in my entire life. The drive down to Trier was wonderful. The area is goregeous. We visited a town along the Mosel (don't remember the name, I'll have to get it from my room). It was absolutely gorgeous! The houses were all sooooo old. I have some really nice pics, but as of yet can't put them online. I'm working on that though and will hopefully have some pictures up soon. We walked around the town for awhile and then found a place to have lunch. I got to try Federweisse for the first time. (It's kind of like grape juice but with some alchohol in it. We then walked around some more and just enjoyed looking at all the old buildings. Some ... read more

It's been a fun last few days. Fri. I spent the day doing pretty much nothing. =) Was kinda nice. Fri. evening a bunch of us went to Bochum to hang out with Marina. We were at Marina's place till about 12:30 or so just drinking and hanging out. I got to meet Katrin (one of Marina's friends that goes to the University of Trier). She's driving down to Trier with us tomorrow. I now know someone that'll also be there =) =) I'll also have someone to ride with when I come home for Christmas break. That'll be quite nice. Anyways, we had a good time just chilling. Then, a couple people drove us all to a club in Bochum. The club was called Riff. It wasn't a club like you're probably thinking. It ... read more

I can't believe that today is the last day of Sept. The time has flown by. I've almost been in Germany 3 weeks now and it still feels like I just got here. This is my last weekend in Stockum for quite a while. The last couple days I've just been hanging out. Not really doing much. Wed. I went to Bochum with Sonja and we met up with Juli and Marina. ´We went shopping, except the only person that really bought anything was Sonja =) Was still fun. Afterwards we bought noodles and made Spaghetti at Juli's place. Tonight a group of us are headed to Bochum (it's a city near Dortmund where Marina is going to school). We're gonna go out on the town tonight =) Probably to a club, but who knows. It ... read more

I never thought tacos would taste sooooooo good! I made dinner for a few friends and wanted to cook Mexican food. It's amazing how much more you appreciate what you normally take for granted at home when you're somewhere else and can't have what you normally can. In California Mexican food is soooooo common. In Germany, it's really something special and pretty difficult to come across. I miss it soooo much. Finding something that I could cook here (and what everyone would like was pretty difficult). I had to go online and look at recipes. I finally decided upon tacos, 'cause it didn't require a lot of ingredients that were really different. It seemed kinda boring though. Tacos back in California (or the states for that matter) are normal. When I was thinking of what ... read more
