Last stop before Calais from the river Loire to the river Seine at Les Andelys

Last nights thunderstorm had abated by morning but was replaced by very strong gusty winds. Decided not to walk up into town as I normally do to get bread as likely to get blown away.We did stop at the Intermarche on the edge of town for our take home shop. For Bob this means bottles of wine. For me it means some of the foods which I cant get in England walnut cheese being a pri

We left the campsite bright and early as nothing to keep us there. Mme Campsite Owner who after careful consideration I have renamed Mme. Nasty Knickers ignored me when I got out of the Tandy at the site entrance to put our rubbish in the bin so I reciprocated as couldn39t think of anyhing I wanted to say to her. Customer first is what I was taught but she must have trained at a different co

Lazy day with lunch out in Vallon Pont Darc.

Having decided to stay put for the day we also agreed on a lazing about sort of day but with lunch out.If it had been as sunny as yesterday we might have thought about a short canoe trip but a bit too cloudy for that as really need full sun if you are sitting in a canoe on a wide deep and very wet river. We scootered instead late morning to Vallon and found it to be a very different place once a

Lovely day in the Ardeche at Pont Darc.

Had a lovely quite busy day today. We started off with a leisurely scoot into Vallon Pont Darc town just a couple of kilometres across the bridge and up the hill. We had no idea what was there so we me especially were delighted to find a market. Not a little market either but one which filled nearly every street in town as well as a big area down at the bottom. Had a lovely wander and

Left the south coast and headed north to the spectacular Ardeche

Bob managed to get the scooter back into the garage again but only after moving the Tandy down from its ramps and out of the olive tree where it had taken up temporary residence with the ants. Once the scooter was in place and the garage repacked we set off for our next campsite heading North. This direction was very important as so far we have only been going south but have now run out of south

Enjoying our last full day of summer on the south coast of France

Despite the rather pessimistic weather forecast there has been plenty of sun around today. We have made the most of it as tomorrow we start our slow drive north and the temperatures can only go down from here onwards.Bob having read my blog of yesterday very kindly suggested we spend the morning in Sanarysurmer as we did yesterday but this time with the shops open. Great idea. We scootered in

A swim in the Mediterranean at SanarySurMer

Happy to report that the crocodile did not get me.ltgt Bob had quite a struggle getting the scooter out of the Tandy as not much room to manoeuvre and the back wheels are on ramps which has made the garage higher than normal. Had to use brute force to get the scooter out and no doubt will have to move the Tandy in order to get the scooter back in again. We scootered down to SanarySurMer

Another glorious day. We are being so lucky with this lovely weather. Only had two lots of rain so far once overnight and for one morning. This sunshine is especially welcome today as we head for the south coast at SanarySurMer where we plan to stay for a few days. I really really want a swim in the sea.ltgt I was outside campsite reception before 8.30 determined this time to get a ba

Thank goodness for that. At some point in the night the wind decided to take a rest and when we woke it was to a beautiful day. Blue sky superb view from our pitch across the Luberon with wisps of mist rising up the hills. Great start to the day.Attempted to get bread from campsite reception having been told no need to reserve it. Went across at 9am to discover it was all gone reception only ope

Up and off today as we had a long way to go. Longest daily distance since our day 1 drive from home. The first quarter of the drive was beautiful. First of all through the fields and rolling hills and then along the beautiful Tarn valley. We stopped at a couple of particularly spectacular spots on the river Lincou and Brousse le Chateau. Then unexpectedly found ourselves crossing back to the no

Rain in the night and still raining when we got up. First we have had for over a week and in fact the first daytime rain. We have been very lucky Fortunately we had expected it so everything was tucked away in the dry under the awning. Not a very early start today as we werent going anywhere until and unless the rain stopped. Sue and Keith got on their way up to the Dordogne and we settled dow

First thing to do today. Trudge up to reception to see if I can use the extortionately expensive wifi I have paid for. No. Not working. Complained to reception that if they charge so much they should make sure it works. Point taken but no refund offered for my unused 4 worth of time. Otherwise excellent campsite downgraded in my personal records by 1 point.Second thing look in astonish

Today we have had a lazy day. Too lazy even to get the scooter out of the garage so we had to walk into La Romieu where we had a bit of a stroll looked in through the gates at the beautiful Unesco World Heritage protected abbey but didnt go in as we did that in full last visit then stopped for a leisurely coffee before walking back to the campsite armed with the obligatory fresh baguette for

Time to move on almost directly south over the Vezere and then the Dordogne river and down to the Ger in beautiful pastoral Gascony.Bob and Clarissa Tomtom had planned a route last night which went in a pretty straight line and took us along roads we had not used before. We were quite surprised by this as we thought we had probably seen all the stretches of the Dordogne that there are to see but

A perfect day for a ride on the scooter following the Vezere river to Montignac. Glorious sunshine no need for umbrellas or coats only suntan lotion and hats. Just 8 miles and a pleasant ride with not much traffic and occasional cooling shade from the trees. We drove through Montignac last year en route for Sarlat from the campsite and made a note to visit it this year. It straddles the Vezere

A busy Saturday on the roads to the coast today so we were pleased to be heading inland. We saw a mile long traffic jam queuing for a roundabout near Rochefort and concluded it was holiday traffic. On such a gorgeous sunny day not surprising if the while of France is heading for the coast. We left Ile de Ra a little reluctantly as we always love visiting the island and this last three days have b

Woke to another glorious blue sky day. We are finding it hard to believe that we have been so lucky in finding our 2012 summer even if we have had to wait until September. This lovely weather seems to be all across France and England but a quick check on the forecast says that the southern part of France should be great for at least the next 10 days but the UK will not fare as well.
Early ish we are on holiday start to the day as we were visiting the lovely market in La Flotte which is mornings only and very busy. There are two excellent fish stalls but unfortunately we dont recognize many varieties of fish on sale and also have the problem of not wanting to prepare anything too fish smelly in the Tandy. I decided to take the easy option and buy sea bass. The
