Friday December 19th The cambodians drive on the right hand side of the road, the thais on the left. After we crossed the border into thailand it was a wierd experience changing sides of the road in the middle of a journey. Once back in thailand there was a noticeable change in how advanced thailand is as compared to less well off cambodia. Sunday the 14th On Sunday morning Myself, Babette and Matt headed off back to Phnom Penh. This time we took a minibus and did actually have a seat to ourself, despite the fact that there were 5 cambodians squashed into 3 seats for a while (the are really thin). It took 8 hours to get to Phnom Penh which felt like a lifetime, but we were kept entertained, or you might even say in a state of total fear, by the drivers passing out attempts on blind corners. Monday the 8th Dec Up at 6.30 we got our bus leaving Phnom Penh for Kratie at 7am. We knew that in kratie you can see river dolphins but apart from that we had no idea what to expect. The bus stopped for breakfastafter after a few hours, a local breakfast noodle soup for me thank you very much, and we got talking to some of the people on the bus. Wednesday the 3rd I caught a flight to Siem Reap in Cambodia in the morning. Whereas Laos was pretty cold, Cambodia is really hot and the heat hit me when I got off the plane. From the Airport I got a motor bike taxi to the hotel. The guy put my ruck sack between his knees and off we headed into the city with no helmets. Sunday the 30th I took a tuk-tuk to changmai airport and caught my flight out of Thailand to Luang Prabang in the north west of Laos. Luang Prabang is situated in the middle of jungle covered mountains on the Mekong river. I got off the plane and the first think I realised was I didnt have enough money to buy my visa so I had to borrow a couple of dollars of a scottish couple that were on the plane with me. Friday the 21st Had what was meant to be the last night out with the clare boys and Nial. In the end there ended up being a group of 6 of us with a few liverpool lads joining the possy. We started in Papaya our favourite restaurant on Phi Phi. Half way through the meal this older Austrian guy and his sweedish girlfriend started talking to us accross the divide from the bar next door. Wednesday the 12th On wednesday morning I woke up in my hotel room in Koh Samui an island off the coast of thailand. The first thing I noticed about thailand, or Koh Samui, is the amount of scooters and moterbikes. Everyone drives them here. Without having much time to look around Koh Samui, i got my stuff together and headed to the ferry terminal. I caught a ferry to Koh Phagnan, another thailand island famous for the full moon party. Monday the 10th I arrived in Singapore at 10pm and tooka taxi to John Sheehans place. The taxi driver gave me a brief history of Singapore on the way (all taxi drivers are talkative here). John (who worked with me in MCS galway and who also lived in paris for a while) lives in an appartment in a high rise building like most people in singapore. Friday the 31st to Sunday the 2nd The weekend in cairns began with halloween on friday night. Myself and Eric dressed up as Pirates which is pretty easy to do as we found pirate hats and swords in a kids shop. Tony an american guy that was with us dressed up as a penguin and it was priceless. He got some inflatable penguin out of a shop cut it up and slipped into it. In the bars and clubs there were not that many people dressed up but there were still enough for us not to look stupid. Thursday the 23rd That evening the crowed from the whit sunday trip met up in a bar and got absolutely loaded. Party party party. A live band in one bar followed by a live band in another bar followed by a night club. I bloody hated the night club, too many sweaty people too close together with terrible boom boom music, but I loved the bars and music before that. Obviously my age is starting to show.
