After Oaxaca on thursday the 11th we got another overnight bus, 8 hours, to Veracruz on the coast of the gulf of mexico. We came here for the Carnival which is a festival like Carnival in Rio. One day we took a four hour bus ride to see a waterfall (maybe not the best idea) at a place called Catemaco. Apart from that we spent our time watching parades concerts and partying with a few mexicans we met. One girl wendy took us under her wing and showed us all the nice spots, bars, beaches and night clubs. The carnival was great craic with lots of loud music and drunk people, thoroughly enjoyable. And i think i had it better than Babette as there were a lot more female bodies on show than male bodies. Who ... read more

After the trek we spent three days in Oaxaca. The first day was just spent wandering around the town. The second day we went to Herve El Agua a petrified waterfall up in the nearby mountains. Took us ages to get there but it was really worth it. We swam in thes pools perched on top of the hils with blue skies and amazing views. The last day we went up to Monte Alban another Archeoligical site. Oaxaca was lovely with lots of art galeries, music, churches and more chicken with chocolate sauce. And we did three salsa lessons. Salsa music is everywhere and we are really getting into it.... read more

After Guanajuato we went to Morelia for two days. Morelia was a nice town but nowhere as nice as Guanajuato so we were a little bit dissapointed with it. As with all Spanish colonial towns it is full of old churches. The central square was pretty but a bit annoying with all the trafic snarling around it. We ate well, strolled around, took photos and went to a salsa bar. Oh and there was a crazy shower of hailstones. Nothing else to report.... Next. After Morelia we went to Puerto escondido a Beach town on the southern pacific coast of Mexico. A four hour bus journey took us back to Mexico city and then an hour flight brought us to the beach. The second we got off the plane the heat hit us. Twas roasting and ... read more

After Mexico city we headed for some old Spanish colonial towns to the north west. First stop San Miguel de Allende about 4 hours bus ride. It was nice to get away from the big city and arrive in this beautiful colonial city. After arriving in San Miguel i began to realise the spanish influence on the country with the architecture, the colours and the churches. We spent two lazy days strolling around San Miguel, taking in the sun and drinking coffee. I discovered a dish called Mole. Its a chicken dish with chocolate sauce, sounds crazy but in fact is really good. The sauce is more spicy that sweet but chocolate is the main ingredient. The night life was pretty good and we found a decent bar with live rock music and live salsa music. ... read more

We arrived in mexico city on the afternoon of Monday the 18th of January after a flight from new york with an hour stopover in Charlotte North Carolina. It was an early start in new york with a 4.30 wake up from Auntie Theresa who of course had a little brekkie and coffee ready for us. Theresa and Jay left us to the airport even though it was 5am and it was their day off. They just cant ever do enough for ya. Fully loaded with the rucksacks we walked in the sunshine (bye bye winter) from the airport terminal to the Mexican Metro. The metro is supprisingly clean and efficient. At almost every stop someone gets on, usually roaring, an tries to sell their products, books, CDs, DVDs, chocolate. After a few changes we arrived ... read more

So I am on the road again. Bye bye France im moving to Australia. And Im bringing a frenchie with me. Its going to take us 4 months to get there. So a month in Mexico is called for. Friday December 19th The cambodians drive on the right hand side of the road, the thais on the left. After we crossed the border into thailand it was a wierd experience changing sides of the road in the middle of a journey. Once back in thailand there was a noticeable change in how advanced thailand is as compared to less well off cambodia. On approaching Bangkok we hit some crazy traffic that added an extra 2 hours to our journey than wasnt necessary and 14 hours after leaving Sihanoukville we arrived in Bangkok at Koh San Road. Starved after the journey we wolfed down some street food and then found ourselves a pretty nice hotel for the last two days in asia. We went straight back to Koh San road, one of the main night life ... read more
