| 15th July 2007 Lol | wow - From: Baptism of fire! What an amazing read. You have a talent to paint a picture, I thought I was reading a Wilbur Smith novel. No, a thriller like Dick Francis. The scary thing I know its you, and I want you to come home. You are a wise young thing, and I know you are trusting your instincts and that will be enough, but the maternal non travelled me says "OH my God." Looking forward to the next part of your adventure Love and awe from Lol |
| 15th July 2007 Pinkdaisy | You will never be there again - From: Baptism of fire! Amy, I understand your anxious but you are with someone, not alone just try and enjoy it. Look at what is beautiful you may never be there again Thinking of you here in very WET Osaka!! |
| 14th July 2007 Stephen Paul | sounds like... - From: Baptism of fire! Nice post! I think its the most honest, and seemingly the most 'real' experience you've had to date. Europe is like a fairyland of sorts where everything is easy. Sounds like Morocco for you is one of those experiences that makes you think twice about everything, an experience that you dont really enjoy at the time, an experience in a place so different you cant tell if you are on vacation or living out some sort of excommunication. But I think no matter what happens, when you leave that place you will look back and say, "That was the best experience I had in travelling 6 months through 15 countries!! (I HOPE! :) ) Make the best of it and take lots of pictures please! Ohh yeah, and gut feelings are usually right, so try not to loiter around at night- rule #1 in unsafe countries!!! |

| 23rd April 2007 anonymous | my old stamping ground - From: London calling! Even tho I was born within coo-ee of London I guess I can't really say I know it that well! But have had plenty of visits so the sights you are seeing are familiar!! Pity we couldn't have organsied a Queen's garden party invite for you. Wendy had one coz her grandfather was British. I didn't get one and I am a fully fledged POM! Must have been something to do with not putting in an application form! Were those toilets really in London? YUK!!! Where do they wash their hands? What if they need a shake? (Sorry, I am always thinking of the practical problems!!). The dog loo must be for well trained dogs. Expect there are lots of dogs walking around London with their legs crossed waiting to come across a doggy loo. Sorry, seem to be getting stuck on the toilet humour!! We are off camping and fishing at Marion Bay on Anzac Day...we'll eat the fish we catch and then go out to dinner. The kids still love making damper in a fire in an old 44 gallon drum....ahh...the real Oz way!! Lots of love... Sheila |

| 29th March 2007 Blue Steel | Land of the Rising Sun - From: Miscellany Defined Japan's location in relation to Asia is Easterly, and we all know that the sun rises in the East! Therefore Japan is the first country in Asia to see the rising sun, and is the land of 'the sun's origin', which is the translation of Nippon. Keep up your blogs and good luck in Whingeing Pommy land! |

| 15th March 2007 Sheila | Petal indeed! - From: Hello Blossom! I wanted to be the first to say it was a camelia not a begonia!! The weather is nuts here as well, so I have roses, proteas and camelias all coming out at the same time. Very pretty but not meant to be this way. We have had good use of the pool this year, swimming almost every evening. Shandy has decided she doesn't mind swimming too, but one needs to keep away from the thrashing legs with the sharp nails attached! Lots of love Sheila |

| 14th March 2007 sheila | late!! - From: Sweet Love and Steam in Izu Hi Amy HAven't looked at Yahoo for ages so missed your blog! Great pics. I liked the kaleidescope best. My brother Alan, wife Ayuko and Ryosuke have just gone home...we miss them so much already and Claire wants to get on the next plane to visit!! Ayuko made sushi for us but we had run out of sushi and had to ring every house in the street to find someone to lend us some! (there are actually only 5 houses on the street). Alan brought over a huge kite he had made and we nearly lost Matthew when the wind blew hard and lifted him right off the ground. Lucky it wasn't Claire, she might have ended up anyway. Played lots of golf with Alan and Ayuko...so cheap over here (apparently!!) Love Sheila |

| 14th January 2007 Ben Pratt | Yeah thanks for letting me know? - From: Ill be home for Christmas!!!!!! Hi Aims, Well what happen to telling me ya were coming home, hey? Not to worry, in those instances the less that know the better as more often than not, somebody just can't help themselves and blurts it out. By the way, Good driving matey?, glad to see nothing has changed, you still can't drive for nuts!. Not that I can talk? Anyway Xmas at the folks place was quite reasonable this year, temperature wise and Dad wise. None of them got over 25 degrees so it was bloody good for a change. Not much going on here in QLD, still very dry, had a tad of rain but that went as soon as it hit the ground. I applied for a teachers assistant job in Japan a week ago, let you know how it goes. Sounded like they wanted someone "younger" but anyway chat soon. Ben. x |

| 15th December 2006 Ben Pratt | Baka? What The? - From: Spit and Dribble Hi Aims, Sensational shots once again. As for ya "Baka" mate, ya should've just kneed him in Mt Fuji and push him over in true Aussie style. Don't tell ya Mum I said that!. Anyway, I'm off to Sydney for Xmas drinks with the family down there. Should be good to see the rug rats and have a few echoes. It's been crazy weather here still. Lots of bush fires in NSW and Tas and then temperatures as low as 15 degrees in the middle of summer, so I say something has gotta give pretty soon. Have a wonderful white Christmas and Happy New Year. lotsa of Xmas happiness to you, Ben. |

I have always loved bonsai and dead trees as you know I love their skeletons, but that one with the life line is very special. I will have to think up some more requests- perhaps snow would be a good theme in a couple of months!! |
| 28th November 2006 Neighbour | - From: Make like a tree and LEAVE!!!! Hey Aim's! Wow, i feel like i've just viewed every leaf in Japan! Well it's lovely weather here in QLD at the moment, just a tad under 40 deg's so definitely trying to stay in the shade. Bring on Adelaide, oops I'm not going now, I'm heading home to have Xmas with Sam, Michelle and the folks. Probably play bowls on Saturday, bake foot day, that'll be some fun. Boys vs girls so I'll see how good mum is. Other than that, not much happening, just gearing up for the Xmas partying. Chat soon. Ben. |
| 28th November 2006 Stephen Paul | SySTEMmatically LEAFing us no choice... - From: Make like a tree and LEAVE!!!! The LEAFt you could do is give us some more pictures of yourself! I like the theme blog though, the coming of fall is sort of like the cherry blossoms... reminds us of LEAF and Death. LEAF Fuji alone too. Cant you have one post without it?! ha ha. Those Bonsai are incredible, I think I would enjoy a Bonsai tour of Japan more than anything else. I love trees! great post, but you LEAF me no choice but to re-use all the puns- there's not much to do with the word LEAF! |
| 27th November 2006 Blue Steel | - From: Make like a tree and LEAVE!!!! Its "make like a tree and get out of here. You sound like a damn fool when you say it wrong!" Only joking...its LEAVE you BUTTHEAD! |
| 27th November 2006 Sheila | leaf off with the puns! - From: Make like a tree and LEAVE!!!! Hi Amy I feel a little faint after all those puns. I can't match you for puns but have 2 jokes you might not have heard.... A Grasshopper walks into a bar and asks for a drink. "Hi!!" said the bbartender..."we've got a drink named after you!!". "Oh" said the grasshopper..."you have a drink called Melvin?". Ha Ha or...A penguin walks into a bar. "can I help you" said the bartender. "I'm looking for my brother" said the penguin. "What does he look like?" asked the bartender..... Sorry about those but the others (the ones the KIDS told) shouldn't be told over the internet or I might get a visit from the Federal Police!! THanks for the pics...they are lovely as usual and hope Liz is happy! Lovely and warm here...8pm and the kids are making heaps of noise in the pool. The dog is carrying on like a mad thing and the cat has decided they are all too much and is moving out. I think the Wendy's icecreams they had on the way home must have had too many preservatives or something...they've gone feral!! Matt has Year 10 and Year 11 exams this week and next. How awful! Bet you are glad you have finished all that stuff.. Lots of love Sheila |

| 8th November 2006 Ben Pratt | Hi Aims - From: The one thing I love about Tokyo!!!! Good to see ya back on the Blog. Well it's actually managed to rain in QLD, so we might actually have some lawn to sprawl out on and enjoy a picnic and BBQ pretty soon. Looks like poo brown city in Tooowoomba!Seriously we've had just enough rain to grow a few bindi's and not much else other than for the crappy politicans to come out of their dry closets and spruk for a hour or 2 hours on how they "prayed" for us. Please ?. Give me strength actually Give me the Sarki instead, Anyway, not much changed since last Hello communika. A white Xmas sounds good, though the weather here is just on about 26 deg's cel, so I'm thinking maybe that's good enough for any Tom, Dick or Harry?. Maybe a ski on the Murray or a dip on the East coast? Well Chat soon. Enjoy the last few weeks with Marissa and stay in touch. Ben. xx |
| 8th November 2006 sheila | tokyo - From: The one thing I love about Tokyo!!!! Amy you have a real talent for putting together these blog things. You could put them all together and publish them as a book...it is a lot more interesting than Lonely Planet!! I hope it is OK that I send the links on to my Mum, as she wants to go back to Japan but finds it difficult because of her hips and knees. She is in hospital at the moment as she has just had a total hip replacelmmet so hopefully that will make her more comforatble. I don't recommend the look of the girl in the short red skirt...I thought the Japanese were a bit more subtle than that!! Hope I am one of the ones that deserves it!! Just had Claire's birthday week...finishing off with a party for 8 friends (6 girls and 2 boys...if they were a bit older they would appreciate that!). Look after yourself...love Sheila |
| 7th November 2006 CheekyPee | Toot toot chugga chugga... - From: Antics in Asabata Hello you! Them there photos of the kids are so cute! I don't want to put words into your mouth but do you think my joke about the number eight was better than Ben's rabbit one? "Yes, of course I do, Graham, Definitely." Thanks so much for the ongoing help with Japan although bear in mind that I might not even bother going abroad ever again, actually, when I can just carry on temping down the local firestation for £8.30 an hour (less tax) and live with my Mum and Dad like a 26-year-old LOSER, sniff sniff... |
| 31st October 2006 Uncle Chop Chop | Returning the compliment! - From: Mt Fuji is alive with the Sound of Music Came on thinking I´d have a look at your blog and return the compliment...and there you are on the front page!!! Well done, great blog!.........Nice J5 reference second pic in too!! |

| 31st October 2006 Neighbour | - From: Antics in Asabata Hey spunky! Wow, i think you are in LOVE with Mt Fuji... unfortunately he is not a man, your mum will be disappointed! Great photos, seems like the 'Hall's' had their very own little National Lampoon's Vacation. Leave your Dad alone too, your Hall girl's pick on him! Thanks for the postcard too, just got it today, although it's probably been in my letterbox for a week, yes i'm slack and dont go near the stupid letterbox in fear of more bills to pay! | 26th October 2006 Wendy R | travelling at the desk - From: A mountain and some lakes. Why life as a teacher, why not in marketing for the Japanese tourism industry? I have enjoyed your photos and observations. Not sure about Dad now having 7 years on Mum. Thanks for your postcards too. Lots of Love. |
| 21st October 2006 Ben Pratt | Hi Aims - From: Antics in Asabata Hey Amy D, great pics again. Loved the little tackers at sports day. As for dorky family photos, don't worry it happens in my family too. Some genetic trait that insists on surviving the blood line I guess. Gotta love 'em all the same! So Have you eaten any cockcroahes and scorpions yet? I think I'd rather fire walk?. So this rabbit walks into a bar, jumps up on the bar stool and orders a beer and a ham n cheese toasted sandwich, the barman thinks, yeah Ok. So the rabbit eats his toasty and drinks his beers and hops out. The next day in hops the rabbit, jumps up on the bar stool and orders a beer and a ham n cheese toasted sandwich. The Barman brings it out the rabbit proceeds to eat his toasty and drink his beer and then hops out. The next day, by this time a hugh crowd is gathering, the same again, in hops the rabbit, jumps up on the bar stool and orders a beer and a ham n cheese toasted sandwich. The barman says, "look I'm sorry mate, I'm outa ham, seeing how you're good for business, how about I make you a special onion and cheese toasted sandwich instead and have a free beer on me?" The rabbit agrees, eats his toasty and drink his beer and then hops out. Well the next day goes by and another and another, a week, a month and no show of the rabbit. Then one day outa the blue in hops this ghost of a rabbit and hops up on the bar stool. The barman says " Mate, where have you been? I was doing a roaring trade, I even put on extra staff to cater for just you!" The Rabbit says " well you know that special onion and cheese toasted sandwich you made ?, it bloody well killed me!" The barman says " whatya mean it killed ya, I make them all the time for people around here, nobody has died yet! How did you die? the rabbit says, " simple. I died from mix-n-mytoasties" ha ha ha ha ha. I know, belly wobbles all round?. Gotta go. Bloog ya soon. Ben |

| 20th October 2006 Blue Steel | - From: A mountain and some lakes. What exactly is 'rocket surgery' or brain science'? Don't you mean rocket science and brain surgery! Too much crazy mt fuji air for you! |
| 19th October 2006 Stephen Paul | Just a Mountain - From: A mountain and some lakes. Nice pictures! Makes me feel like I went along too. I would have loved the Owakudani and Mt. Fuji views! And that picture of you in the pilots uniform is an instant classic. I can see the picture of your family's faces in the cut-out gondola one for the photo album! Ice caves are strange too... How much do you charge for sightseeing tours? :) |
| 19th October 2006 sheila | fantastic - From: A mountain and some lakes. Hi Amy What a fantastic blog! I loved the pictures...did your Gran really pinch the zucchini? MAtthew loved Hakone and it seems as if the whole area is really great. It makes me want to come back to Japan, because all I have really seen before is Tokyo, and that is just one big city! I would love to see the Ice Caves. Spoke to your Mum last night...expect you did too. They seem to have had a great time and we hope to catch up soon. We are going to do some beading together (at least, that is the plan, I plan often to do beading with my Mum but we just end up chatting and sorting the heads into separate piles...therapeutic anyway I suppose!!). All OK here. Kids are back to school for final term. Matthew goes to Gooese Island this term and is really looking forward to it. Claire has pet day and can't decide whether to take her kitten, her rabbit or the new baby possums. Shandy (the dog) has been many times and won all the prizes, so I don't think she will get to go this time. More later!! Love Sheila Oh..can I forward your Blog address to my Mum (dnnichol@senet.com.au). She would love to see your pictures and hear your news...'specially as she now has a Japanese grandchild!! |
| 18th October 2006 anonymous | Hey Aims - From: Hey there's a festival in our street!! And other stories Well I've finally got broadband up and working "properly", some sneeky little bastard was pigging backing on my netgear so it was alll slow and stuffed. Now it's mutli supa dupa encripted so alls good. Caught up with ya Ma n Pa n Gran on the weekend, they were glad to be home for a decent nights sleep in a real bed, I think?. Went out on the Jetcat across to Southbank for lunch. Came back to the hotel and Gran cleaned up on the pokies. Me well I just donated 10 buck and then Love your pic's, not sure about fire walking though? All the family are fine, though Cam had a bout of Gardia, so he's a tad scrawny now. Cate thinks this is the best blogg site and I tend to agree with her. Little Zach is almost walking, which is incredible cause he's like only 9 months, so that'll be interesting, for them. Sam n Shelly's house is almost finished and me well I'm just bumming around, waiting for Dec and the Ashes to start. I've booked to be down there for a week, so hopefully no repeat hospital visits this time around. Not much happening in sunny Toowoomba, too bloody dry, not much chance of rain either. The M1 Freeway into Brisbane has been closed because they've discovered cracks in the overpasses, so that is causing havoc. Anyway send me ya phone number again and I'll give you a buzz. Love Ben. |
| 16th October 2006 Stephen Paul | A is for Asahi - From: Hey there's a festival in our street!! And other stories Thanks for the compliments! I love your pictures more, because they are more illustrative and tell a story. Your technique is great too! The Omaezaki ones are haunting. And whats that I see you step on before the coals, a wet cloth? CHEATERS! And whats up with the drinking and driving... ohh wait the steering wheel is on the other side of those cars! ha ha.. By the way, if October 28th comes and goes without a blog entry from BlackManx- your month time limit has expired and all of your readers become officially depressed... :) |
| 16th October 2006 Stephen Paul | S is for Stephen - From: H is for Hokkaido This is an awesome blog! Totally gives you a feel for being in Hokkaido, even if it isnt the Ice Festival in Winter or touring Ainu Villages. The A-Z is creative and works well, but lends itself to too simplistic accounts of things, I like it when you write more! |
