Hello from KC
I've been thinking about alot the last couple of days. Maybe because you are coming home soon and I can't believe that the year has passed so quickly. You are probably in China right now with your Aunt Jean and family. Give everyone a big hug from the Franklins. We will be in touch when you arrive back in the states. Safe traveling and lots of love. Aunt A.

yurikamome
the driverless yurikamome to Odaiba is really cool but it is not a monorail! it has wheels with rubber tyres (proper english spelling) on each side of the cariages. the wheels run on 2 flat concrete tracks within a u shaped beam resting on elevated posts. a monorail ride astride a single beam. for photos check a site called Japon, la vie du rail. then click on yurikamome and later on monorail to see the difference. cheers!.

Afraid of a ride?
Finally, a roller coaster (the drop) you are afraid of ;) I can't believe it.

Wowieee!
Your trip keeps getting better and better! When I read the part about the Ninja museum I was smiling so big. (I have this thing for ninjas... I just cannot resist their awesomness.) I can't miss that either. Where in Nagano is this at? (My email address is shii.kitty@gmail.com if you would like to chat it up a bit. :D)

Fuuun tiiiime!
Looks like you had a great time in Nagano. That was a very nice read. I am planning to live in Nagano next year as an exchange student. I really like the sound of the Shiba-onsen. I may have to visit there! (Sorry if this is old. I have no idea. XD)

Walk to Texas
Just think how different our gov't might be if Bush had to walk thru real America between DC and Texas periodically.

Late nights
I wouldn't worry about late nights. I don't think most American firms regularly keep hours that long.

Hi, I am Mayumi, a next neighbor of Amy Franklin in KS. As you can tell by my name, I grew up in Japan. I very much enjoy your journal and photos about Japan through your vivid American eyes. Okonomiyaki is one of my favorites and sure made me homesick. I know that living in a different culture is just like riding a roller coaster. If you feel lost, confused or frustrated there, I have good friends in Tokyo who may be able to support you. Just contact me anytime. Ganbattene.

lotus leaves and ?tori stone lanterns
I think those are lotus plants in the water - were there flowers with lots of petals, pastel colors, or seed pods with almost a cross section with holes in it? The stone things might be mock stone lanterns.

tampopo
Looking at your bowl of ramen reminded me of a great movie you should try and rent while you're in Japan - Tampopo - all about the quest for the perfect bowl of ramen soup.
