My time here in Colombia is coming to an end... I have five more days before I head to Hawaii. I absolutely love this place and am looking forward to coming back here after my stay in South Korea. The past two weeks have been quite different than the rest of my trip because I have been living as a Colombia, well not so much as a travelor. No I do not go to work or school, but I have been living in Medellin with a family. I go to work with them sometimes or I go to school with them. It has been great, one of my friends is going to school for Civil Engineering and I go to classes with him... and take notes... in Spanish... AND I understand what is going on! Haha, ... read more

I got to Barranquilla on Wednesday. I was initially planning on staying for just a day but intestinal problems kept me there a little longer. I went to school with my friend who teaches at one of the private schools. She teaches for the wealthiest kids in Barranquilla. If you would like an idea of their wealth. All her kids, fifth graders, have an iPad ... 2 I believe. I enjoyed being there, it gave me an idea of how teaching in another country is like. I know Korea will be differen in so many ways, but still gave me some things to think about. There is a doctor who is at the school all day, so I got to see a doctor for free! She gave me some meds to help relieve the pain I ... read more

It took a couple of days to upload all the pictures otherwise I would've had this posted a couple days ago. And todays entry is going to be short I believe the pictures can speak for themselves... :D My trip to Parque Tayrona was cut short because of a bee sting, which is doing very well right now! I usually swell up for 5 days, this time it was only for 3... coming back early was a good decision, as much as I really didn't want to. Currently I'm working on calming my stomach.. I've had minor stomach issues since arriving to Columbia, but this one beats them all by tenfolds! I'm hoping to get some sleep here very shortly and looking forward to a healthy me tomorrow. I'll be going to my friends school all ... read more

Here are some pictures taken from within the Old City wall, which was built to protect the City of Cartagena de Indies from the priates. A couple things to note: 1) All Asains are Chinese 2) Columbians don't have much for etiquette but are very friendly and kind people... 3) Understand how far you need to go in a taxi and have the exact amount you want to pay at hand, most taxi driviers will not have change 4) Money is Columbian Pesos (COP) 5) Columbia is safe!... read more

Sunday January 15, I left for Playa Blanca on Baru for a few days. I took with me just the bare essentials, 10 L en of water (can't have too much of that!), canned tuna, meal bars, a sunhat, sunscreen, bug spray, a pair of clothes and a bikini! I was set!! They have these tourist guides set up where you go to Isle del Rosario, where you can snorkel or go to this aquarium and then head to Baru to eat a typical lunch that the locals on the island eat and then play on the beach till it's time to go home. It sounds all nice and a such but let me explain how it really works.... You need to get to the dock early, around 7:30 - 8 am is the best time. ... read more

Today was a very relaxing day. I was going to go to the beach with my new Colimbian friends but from what I gather that was cancelled due to one of them being ill. I was going to meet with my friend today but she and her sister and cousins were running on Columbian time. They didn't get in till after 4:00 PM. But it's all good. I read, slept and ate! My Columnian friends made me lunch and dinner today! It was so yummy!! They saved me, I would've been eating meal bars all day!! Haha. I was talking with a friend and making plans for Santa Marta when my Columbian friends pretty much forced me out the door. Which I am so glad that they had! The sunset this night was the best I ... read more

Well I thought I would get up early and march on out and discover Cartagena but the truth is I could hardly get myself out of bed! I was utterly exhausted and the heat didn't help much. But I had a comfy bed to sleep in and Ileft myself sleep till my body was ready to move. I ended up going to the beach near by for most of the day. I went with the girls I met from Chile. Fransica, Paula, and Camellia. They have invited me to Chile when I go! They were off to a different part of Columbia so we parted ways. I spent the rest of the day walking along the old city wall and getting lost in the midst of the old city. I cannot express how amazing the buildings ... read more

Traveling from LA to Panama I sat next to a 9 year old girl named Katyr. I started talking to her and she informed me that she does not know any Tnglish, so my Spanish was put to the test. Well, I can say with 95% assurance, that she felt sorry for me... I could tell by they way she looked at me. Haha. Nonetheless we were still able to converse. She is from Guatemala visiting family in LA. It was her first trip to the US and she loved it... well she definitely loved Disneyland! The food on that flight was the best I have had on a plane! Copa Air, they know how to treat their economy passangers... or maybe it is because it is an international flight so their standards are higher.... who ... read more

I think it's safe to say I have spent the whole day in an airport! Pretty uneventful. Catching up on emails and facebooking. Lol. I do have to say that in making things more efficient, the ways of airports are very confusing. First off, did you know that when going through security at PDX these days you have to go through this upright tube, stand there with your arms above your head while it scans you! Or maybe its just if you're flying into LA .... back in October when I flew to Hawaii I did not have to do that. Anyhow I've been at the LA airport since a little before 5 this evening. I was sitting in the United Air terminal this whole time periodically checking the departure screen to figure out what gate ... read more
