Why do people pretend they are taking their children to the zoo? Well, the children do go along with the parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles and other adults who get them up early in the morning, feed and dress them and drag them along. Each day I wake up around 6:00 till 6:15, jump out of bed, use my eyedrops, clean up, get dressed, put on a heavy sweater and gloves then head out the door to practice Tai Chi on the top of the hill. Nothing is so daunting for me as traveling from the USA to Europe. All the alarms in my head go off. "I'll be so tired. I can't sleep on the airplane!" I'm not upset about a possible boring seatmate or a crash. I just think about what seems always to be an endless night. I remember wiggling and moaning and feeling I will go wild from trying to sit quietly. I especially dread this experience when flying alone. Paul, Jim and I drove to Gettysburg to see the new visitor center. It is much larger than the old one and covers US history from before the Civil War until the Civil Rights era. I hope you enjoy the photographs. We did not have time to tour the entire battlefield, so we concentrated on the High Water Mark and the Devil's Den. I am always amazed that Pickett's men actually reached the stone wall and a few crossed it. It is a mile from the High Water Mark to where the charge began. [View Full Entry]

One of our favorite places in Prague is at the top of Petrin Hill. Our name for the place is The Secret Garden. It is in a sunken area on top of Petrin Hill, not far from Prague's Eiffel Tower. While we were walking around the garden we suddenly heard our names being called and there were two of the students from school also enjoying this beautiful spot. The Rock Maze near Malá Skála On our hike through the hills around Malá Skála we entered several places where there were natural rock mazes. During the days of religious persecution Czech Brethren often hid in these areas. One was the refuge where Václav Sadovský ze Sloupna hid. We happened to be walking with three Czechs when we entered this particular place. The woman spoke to her husband and son who then son told us, "She said this is where Sadovský hid."
